Flamestripe and Silkpaw meet

Flamestripe was sitting in the middle of the camp, bored. He had taken a shrew not long ago, but having his belly full didn't help ease his boredom. So he decided to look around for someone to talk to. There was Sunpelt standing in the corner of Sunningrocks with Eaglepaw, his new apprentice. There was Duskfall hovering near the big rock that he stood on for meetings and ceremonies. There was a group of cats near the entrance getting ready to patrol. There was Silkpaw by the fresh-kill pile. There was some of the apprentices huddled in a circle nearby him. Flamestripe had never really talked to Silkpaw, so he decided to do it now.

He padded over to the fresh-kill pile and pretended to look around for a piece of prey. Though he had already eaten the shrew, he didn't want to ask Silkpaw, "Hey, do you want to meet me?" out of the blue. That would probably alarm her. Flamestripe found a plump rabbit that had probably come from the moors, and pulled it out of the pile. He dropped it next to Silkpaw. "Want to share?" he asked.

Flamestripe purred. He was planning on asking her to hunt with him after they ate, but he'd wait to see how it went. He took a mouthful of brown fur in his mouth, allowing the savory scents and tastes fill his mouth.

IC: Flamestripe nodded a little to enthusiastically. "Let's go!" he mewed happily. He led the way out of Sunningrocks and headed toward the unburnt part of the forest. The scents of Sunpelt and Eaglepaw lingered near the RiverClan border. He must have taken his apprentice out for a tour, Flamestripe thought.

He paused to taste the air. He smelled mouse, vole, bird, and a stale scent of fox. I hope that fox isn't still in the territory, Flamestripe thought nervously. Suddenly, the orange-striped tom stiffened and stilled as the sound of prey scuffling through leaves sounded nearby. He dropped into the hunter's crouch and crept forward until he was two fox-lengths away from the mouse. Then he leaped and landed squarely on the prey. Flamestripe purred with satisfaction as he nipped the mouse's neck.

The warrior proudly picked up the fresh-kill and carried it over to Silkpaw. He dug a small hold in the ground and lay the mouse inside. Then he scraped earth over it to collect it later. "Your turn," Flamestripe whispered to his companion.

Flamestripe hissed teasingly. "I will!" He crept forward into the undergrowth, and paused when he saw another vole scuffling around some leaves. He tensed and pounced. The orange-striped warrior bit its neck and carried it back to Silkpaw. Now we have the same amount of prey, he realized. If I can get one more, I'll beat her! Flamestripe sniffed the air again and smelled bird again from earlier. He crouched down and crept to the noise. When he was a little ways away from the starling, he pounced and killed his prey with a quick swipe of the claw. He picked it up and proudly carried it back to Silkpaw. "I won!" he yowled triumphantly.
