Border Brawl [closed for those who signed up]

The sun was a small ways off from the distant horizon. It cast bright orange and pink light that streaked across the sky and made the clouds look like shadows over the moorland. The sunset was beautiful, but it wasn't what Lightpaw was looking at. The white tom was streaking across the flat plains that marked the edge of WindClan's territory, in hot pursuit of an unlucky rabbit that was about to be a queen's late meal. He was young, he was alone, and he wasn't about to give up after he'd lost his last piece of prey. Lightpaw wasn't going to go home empty-pawed.

The tom's heart was pounding louder than his feet were against the ground. He was exhausted from the chase, but he gave it one more burst of energy; he paid no mind to the sudden change of terrain beneath his feet, from soft moorland grass to hard stone and suddenly to varying degrees of marshyness. Lightpaw made a last-ditch effort and leaped at the creature, the tips of his claws catching in the rabbit's haunches, and both creatures tumbled a small distance before the apprentice snatched up the rabbit in his teeth and ended its life. He stood, panting with his sides heaving, and stared down at the rabbit he'd finally gotten a hold of. It was just one rabbit, but he felt the strong desire to give a loud, triumphant yowl. He didn't realize how much of a mistake that was until he brought his head back down and looked around where he was standing. The smile plastered to his face faded into a look of fear as he realized that he had crossed the border and killed prey that had technically belonged ShadowClan.


OOC: Everyone should post once before anyone launches into someone else, cool?

Leafpaw had been with him as well. She had separated herself from him to find a squirrel she had scented. When she came back he was gone. "Lightpaw?" She called. She followed his scent across the border. "Mousebrain! You're gonna get yourself killed." She crept to the Thunderpath. She spotted the tom just a little ways away, and ran over. "Lightpaw! You idiot! What are you doing?" She hissed.

But, unfortunately, some Shadowclanners were there. A three legged apprentice named Stumppaw had scented Windclan. He was much forgiving and simply peeked around the corner of the tree. He didn't say a word, he just watched.

Magpiepaw was elated to go on a patrol with his family and Honeypaw. Nothing could be better than a peaceful family outing. Except it wasn't.

Stumppaw had rushed forward, alarmed by the scent of WindClan. Following closely, he spotted two apprentices, one with a rabbit in their mouth and the other hissing at them. It was obvious what had happened. "We can't just stand here, they're on our territory! With fresh-kill as well," he growled in his brother's ear. The younger apprentice wasn't as kind and lenient as the three-legged tom. He would not stand for something like this, nor let his brother do so. Slowly emerging from his hiding spot, the black tom puffed out his fur and tentatively came closer.

"What are you doing here?" he spat, giving the WindClan cats a chance to explain. He spare a second to glance back at the quickly approaching patrol. If the moor-dwellers were here to fight, there was no way he would fight alone.

It didn't take long for Fennelcloud to catch up with her kits. Since they were all apprentices, she thought it would have been a good idea for all of them to come on a hunting patrol together along with Jayclaw who she hoped was close behind. She knew that he was slow, but come on. It was when the smell of Windclan hit her nose did she suddenly begin to worry. What were they doing so close to Shadowclan land? This was the first time that they'd really had a problem with this, but before she could carefully investigate, Stumppaw and Magpiepaw were both gone out from under her, following the trail to its origins. "Be careful! Who knows what that terrible Windclan is up to!" she called to them before she finally saw who it was. It was just two apprentices, one of which looked scared to death to be on the wrong side of the Thunderpath. That made this queen feel a little bit better but still worried nonetheless.

Leafpaw let out an angry hiss. "For your information, we were just leaving." She tugged at Lightpaw's arm. "Come on." She felt scared in the presence of Shadowclanners, and her fear scent was well noticeable. She waited for when one would sprang out and kill her.

"Only if you leave that rabbit behind." Honeypaw padded out behind the others, frowning. "Think we'll just let you take off with our prey?"

"And what would ShadowClan want with a rabbit anyway?" Eaglethorn hadn't seen what had happened, but he had been close enough to notice the scent of WindClan apprentices crossing over to ShadowClan territory, and of course he'd need to go over to make sure they didn't get themselves killed. Still, this was a good chance to flex those proverbial muscles. "You really think a rabbit would bother living in that swamp you call a home by choice? That rabbit came from WindClan territory, caught by a WindClan cat. If you want to make things more difficult though…" The older warrior unsheathed his claws, a grin on his face. "… Then please, be my guest."

Wolftrot followed Eaglethorn up to the situation. He had been hunting nearby when he had heard the commotion. ShadowClan is threatening WindClan apprentices? I don't think so.
"I think I agree with Eaglethorn. Rabbits are WindClan prey and everyone knows that." he replied, holding his head high as he strolled up to stand beside the older tom. With the tension building, he unsheathed his claws and took on a more battle-ready stance.

Leafpaw let out a growl. "Eaglethorn! What are you doing? We're gonna get killed. Come on!" She tried to reason the tom, but she figured he'd be too stubborn anyway.

Stumppaw nodded. "Fleapelts." She let out a low growl and jumped from the bush, claws fully unsheathed, letting out a low, rippling growl.

When the Windclan warriors approached, Fennelcloud knew this wouldn't end well. Besides, were they really questioning their obvious trespassing onto Shadowclan territory? "Good to know that Windclan knows how Shadowclan lives our lives. You don't think that rabbits cross over that border?" she asked. "I suppose you don't find frogs or mice in Windclan, then. So if I happen to see an apprentice prancing around in Windclan territory with a lizard or a frog in its jaws, then they obviously took that from Shadowclan, right?" It was a valid question, but when the she-cat saw Eaglethorn tense up ready for a fight, she did the same. Claws digging into the ground and hackles raise, she watched the tom carefully.
