Gorsekit's MCA Ceremony

"We are Starclan." The cats spoke in unison, Gorsekit couldn't tell one from another, being too young to know any of them. He thought he saw Smokepaw, his uncle, somewhere in the crowd, but he could have been mistaken. They approached him, all surrounding him in a great mass of cats yet none touched him. "You have been chosen, Gorsekit, for a path that will be filled with hardship. Your destiny is inescapable, the actions of others has predetermined your future. But what you make of it from now on will make or break your ties with everyone you know. You have the potential to be great, but you must endure like the gorse plant you were named after through the hardships that lay ahead. Remember that your line must end with you, or you will follow the fate of your forebearers."

Gorsekit tried to follow what the cats was yowling, but nothing made sense to him. When they stopped talking and started to fade away, he chased after them, he wanted answers. "What do you mean by destiny is hardship? And my line must end with me? Explain yourselves!"

But they disappeared into the darkness like smoke, leaving him alone once more. He stirred from his sleep, blinking awake. It was undeniable that Starclan was real now, but what on earth were they trying to tell him.

Suntail let his mind slip away before awakening. He looked to Gorsepaw. He stood up, shaking wildly from his dream. He felt Gorsepaw had to know, now. He didn't care. He would tell, and Nettlewing couldn't stop him. "I hereby pronounce you Gorsepaw, Medicine Apprentice of Windclan." He announced. But before he told Gorsepaw the news, he sat down. "What did Starclan tell you?" He asked.

"Thank you, Suntail." Gorsepaw spoke and dipped his head respectfully, albeit out of it still from the dream. It felt unreal, he was now a medicine cat apprentice, and there was no going back. One day he'd lead his own apprentice here to do this again, and he'd be in charge of healing and providing wisdom to the clan. It was a frightening future, but he tried to focus on the present, the future was a long way ahead. "I had a vision of a nettle plant in sunlight, but when I got close it turned to smoke and blinded me. Then out of the smoke appeared Starclan who warned me that the future ahead would be difficult and that I must break my line or I will be no better than my forebears. Whatever that means."

Suntail blinked. It means you can't have kits. "Gorsepaw, there's... Something I need to tell you. Your the most mature of your litter and..." He looked away for a moment, to see Honeydrop's face, willing him on. "Do you know who your father is, Gorsepaw?" He asked. "If you do, you will understand the cats' words."

"Probably some warrior in Windclan who Nettlewing had a one off thing with? Maybe it was an affair, he had a mate already or something. Mother likes her secrets, she doesn't tell me much." He spoke candidly, he'd long since guessed there was something a little scandalous about his parentage. That was the only reasonable explanation for why she was so secretive. He didn't imagine it was anything worse than that though, his mother was a clever and honest she-cat in his eyes. She wasn't the type to do anything too reckless. "I still don't see why that'll affect my destiny though. It doesn't matter as long as my father was a Windclan Warrior right? It's not like you or Cloudpatches are my father."

Suntail said. "I'm afraid it's different. Gorsekit, do you promise to keep this a secret until you get your official Medicine Cat name?" He asked quietly. "And I'll have you know, I hate secrets..."

OOC: Was just referring to him

"Depends what it is." Gorsepaw had no intention of making promises before knowing exactly what he was getting into, and something was shifty about the way Suntail was speaking. What did the Medicine cat know that he didn't? Was it something about his father? "I don't like secrets too, but I know sometimes they're for the best. What do you know about my father?"

"Gorsekit, I am your father." He said solemnly. "Look, it was just an affair we shared when we were young... Bringing your uncle back made us fall in love. He was kidnapped by rogues and as we tried to find him we fell in love... I'm sorry that your mother was so secretive. I'm not ashamed, because I love you three very much. I want you to know that.." He trailed off and began again. "My parents had an... Against the code relationship as well. The prophecy means that you can't have lots and make these mistakes, though I'm happy your here today. I've been living a lie my entire life and I don't want that for you. Can you forgive me for this? Nettlewing hates me now because of this secret and I'm ashamed I have to keep this secret..."

"What?! You're my... father? No, you're lying. You're insane. That can't be right." Gorsepaw jerked away from his mentor, stepping backwards closer to the entrance of Mothermouth. Suntail was essentially telling him that his mother broke the code, and that the wise, trusted Suntail was no better. That together they lied to the clan, and lied to them. Littlepaw, Meadowpaw, and he were no true clan cats, born of an affair between two code-breaking cats. And Suntail wasn't only a code-breaking cat, but a half clan cat. What did that make them? Were they even clan cats?

"If you had any kindness you would have let me live a lie. You love us, me? If you did you wouldn't have told me anything. What does telling me do except unburden you of your sins? And now what? I keep yours and mother's filthy secret and pretend everything is fine?" Gorsepaw hissed as he came to the bitter realisation that he was now apart of this secret, this secret that could possibly lead to his and his siblings expulsion from Windclan. He didn't want this burden or to look at his mother and see a filthy, lying she-cat. Lost in a myriad of conflicting feelings, he lashed out at the Tom who had revealed to him this past. "I hate you, I hate Nettlewing, I hate this. What right did you two have to do this to us? How do the two of you live with yourselves?!"

"I don't. Do you realize how much pain I've went through to keep this secret? I do love you, and if you don't love me back I understand. But you have no right to insult me. You don't know the pain of loving someone and have them tear you apart! And you never will, because your destined for a good life while the rest of us perish with lies and a bitter truth! I've been keeping secrets my entire life! Do you think I wanted that? No!" He ran away in tears, ripped apart by his own son. "Even if you don't love me, I'll love you and care about you." He muttered as he ran, and fell by the Thunderpath. He got to his paws and waited for the monsters to roar past before leaving Gorsepaw alone in the caves.

OOC: If you want Suntail to die, just have Suntail beat back Gorsepaw. He's apprentice sized so wouldn't take much effort.

"No, you don't!" Gorsepaw hissed chasing after his father, slamming into him to push him off the Thunderpath. His claws were out as he bit into his father's scruff and dragged him by sheer force of will. He had no intention of just letting his father die, he still had questions, and wasn't interested in having to interrogate his mother for answers. That would involve him getting her alone, and with Littlepaw always sneaking about, that wouldn't be easy. He needed to understand. "I won't let you just die after leaving me with this. You don't get to have the easy way out! You and mother made this decision, you two now have to live with it. At least the two of you had a choice to do this. We didn't, and now we're stuck with the decisions you two made. What bright future is ahead of us? Exile?"

Ic: Suntail glared at Gorsepaw. "Get off me! Anyway, why do I even care your alive right now? If you think you're such a mistake let me die and forget about the pain! Just let me go." He said and pushed him off before sitting by the Thunderpath. "I've come to finish what the monsters want from me." He said, his ripped up leg showing clearly of what he was speaking of. "You don't understand. Go off and tell the clan I'm dead. Nobody loves me anyway! Why should I even care?"

"Then die! I don't care." Gorsepaw snapped, tired of the drama that had become his life. He didn't sign up for this, he just wanted to become a warrior originally and live out his life normally. Have a normal life, a normal family, and a normal death. But it wasn't meant to be obviously.

"We'll all be better off without you. Mother can keep her filthy lies, Littlepaw and Meadowpaw can live in ignorance, and I'll pretend today never happened." He spat out viciously, before turning away from the Tom that was his father and headed back towards Windclan Camp. Gorsepaw was as blunt as they came, and he had no patience to deal with Suntail. His mind was already a jumbled mess as it was, if Suntail really died, he would regret it, but he had no mental space left to deal with the Tom's issues along with his own.

Suntail watched him leave and he got up. "Gorsepaw." He demanded. "Look, I never intended for this. I refuse to mentor you now if you aren't cooperative, and you'll never become a medicine cat. I'd happily run away to another clan and forget all about this life, but I can't. So shut me out and ignore me, but you'll never be able to love someone, and that's for your own good." He walked ahead of him until he was almost to camp, leaving the new apprentice back in the dust. i wish he was never born right now...

"Are you threatening me?" Gorsepaw hissed, turning around to face the tom, his fur bristled and his claws were unsheathed. But taking heed of what Suntail said, he settled down, but couldn't wipe his look of utter disgust at the Tom. "You're more pathetic than I imagined. If I won't do as you say, you'll make sure I won't become medicine cat? Then do it, we'll see what happens when I take this up with Falconstar."

Gorsepaw was firmly on the offensive now, infuriated by Suntail's words. The apprentice had a temper like his mother, one that was not easily shut down and coped poorly with being told what to do.
