Oh where, oh where could Duskkit be? [Open]

Coalkit creeped through the snow, hyper aware that her fur was in stark contrast with her surroundings. That mousebrained hare, she thought to herself angrily as she fell into a hidden dip the ground for the fifth time. The weather was freezing enough that even the the mice that scavenged for scraps in the snow to survive had taken shelter, but here she was. Her whiskers and pelt heavily dusted in snowflakes made her look ridiculous as she ploughed onwards looking for her brother.

She had vague memories of him informing her that he was going to make dirt in the morning, she was too sleepy to be suspicious at the time. But when he wasn't around in the morning, she knew something was up. Lying carefully to save her brother from having to wait three moons instead of the two to become an apprentice, she sneaked out of camp to find him. Which is how she ended up in the cold, wandering around aimlessly confused.

She was hopelessly lost, and the snow did well to hide scents enough that her yet to be fully developed nose struggled to tell shrew from badger, and snake from lizard. It was only when she heard the insidious hiss of an adder behind her between two rocks, she realised that she had made a huge mistake. She was at Snakerocks.

Coalkit froze. Then she yowled loudly in terror.

"Someone help!"

A growl came from the Flameclaw, who jumped over the kit, and onto the adder behind her. The deputy quickly lashed out a paw which sent the adder away from the kit. Flameclaw stood on the defensive from the adder as it lashed at her multiple times. The orange cat would jump back multiple times avoiding the adder's fangs. The fight between the two seemed to go on for a while until right when the snake recoiled, the warrior jumped on it, sinking her fangs into the base of the adder's head. When the snake finally stopped struggling thats when the deputy let go.

The orange tabby stood, and dropped the snake walking over to the kit, and laying down in front of her. "Are you okay Coalkit?" Flameclaw asked, concern shining in her green eyes.

Shivers wrecked through her tiny frame as Coalkit curled in to herself in fear. Her eyes were wide open as she watched the proceeding fight, unable to do anything but squeak when the fight came too close to her. Never had she been this close to danger before. Yes, she pestered the elders, tag teamed with her brother to pounce on apprentices, and occasionally sneaked out of camp to catch moths, but never had it lead to danger. It was her first encounter with an adder, and she was unlikely to ever forget it.

When the ginger furred deputy laid the final blow on the adder, Coalkit finally relaxed a little. But still remained wary in fear, she knew the scent of adder now and it felt like it was everywhere in Snakerocks.

"Yes, I think." She mewed, staring down at her paws in shame. She knew she was going to be in trouble, whether it be from Flameclaw or her mother.

"Good.. good.." The deputy muttered before giving a quick glance around, making sure there was no more danger. "What were you doing out here Coalkit? There must be a good reason?" Flameclaw asked hoping she was right about the good reason. The ginger cat was being quite calm with the kit for now, until they were back at camp then the punishment would come into play for sneaking out.

Coalkit shuffled her forepaws awkwardly, scrapping the gravel under her paws while thinking of a suitable reply. She had already been caught red-handed so she knew she should tell the truth, however the truth came at the cost of her brother's morning adventure being exposed. But then again, she thought to herself, it was his fault for running off without a word and not taking her.

"Well," she started hesitantly. "I was out looking for Duskkit. He left the nursery this morning to make dirt, but didn't come back."

Her black tail curled around herself as she looked up to Flameclaw, and spoke. "I'm sorry, Flameclaw. I shouldn't have left camp."

Duskkit? He disappeared too? "Well you can help me look for him then we will make our way back to camp. You should have told someone he didn't come back. You would have be allowed to leave with a warrior to look for him. I'm here now so you don't have to go back." Flameclaw said. The deputy stood up from her spot and shook out her fur. "You were lucky I was hunting near by Coalkit.. Now let's get a move on before another snake comes."

Coalkit curled further in on herself in guilt, she knew all this. Her mother had told her that outside the camp fraught with danger, and that she should always take a warrior with her. But all she had wanted to do was cover for her brother, and it would have all been fine if the stupid snow hadn't covered up everything. Duskkit, she thought to herself, I'm going to claw off your ear when I see you next.

But when Flameclaw mentioned the potential for more snakes, she was cut off from her thoughts as she squeaked at the terrifying idea.

"Yes, Flameclaw." She mew meekly before trailing behind her as close as possible without pressing herself against her flank.

"Good.." Flameclaw meowed looked down at the little kit. The deputy used a paw to push the kit to move away from the rock. "I'm sure we can find your brother soon. He couldn't have gotten to far."

Wordlessly, Coalkit nodded her head in response and trailed along. They were going to find her brother, and she was going to give him a piece of her mind for getting her into this mess.
