A Heavy Heart

Owlheart smiled as he looked at her, shaking his head as he laughed slightly as he started to follow her as she left the camp, before he narrowed his eyes as he scanned over the territory. What was nice that it was easy to see the whole territory; it would be almost impossible for cats to sneak up on them with all of the empty space and it gave prey very little places to hide. As he glanced at Hawkfeather, he just shrugged. "You can pick; you are the one who wanted to have the hunting contest."

Hawkfeather tilted her head to the side a little, thinking for a moment before brightening up. "I know the perfect place! There's a few rabbit dens near the Tunnel entrance! I'm sure rabbits have started staying in them more often now!" Hawkfeather looked back at Owlheart nervously, afraid he was going to reprimand her for going near the tunnels or disagree with her choice.

He nodded as she gave him her choice, a smile on his face. "That sounds like a good place, I'm sure you are right. With how cold it has been getting, I bet they have started to take any hole for shelter and that one is perfect for a shelter!" He grinned, happy with her location. He started to stroll a bit off; heading toward the tunnels before he came to a stop to glance behind him at Hawkfeather. "Just two things; Try to make sure you don't fall into the tunnel while hunting, and second; let's see who gets there first." Before she could maybe even respond to the latter, he turned and raced off; laughing to himself. He didn't feel like being fair, he just wanted to have fun.

Excited that Owlheart had agreed with her and approved of the place she chose, Hawkfeather started to hop after the tom quickly, a happy glow seeming to eminate from her. As Owlheart came to a halt in front of her Hawkfeather skidded to a stop, almost crashing into him. Listening, Hawkfeather felt warmth rush into her face as she looked away from Owlheart embarrassed. As her clanmate suddenly turned and bolted away Hawkfeather cried out in playful outrage and sprinted after him, catching up quickly.

As he raced toward the tunnels, he couldn't help but let out an excited meow as he dashed across the clearing, going as fast as his legs would take him with him still having energy left for hunting. He glanced behind him for a few seconds, his eyes widening slightly when he saw that Hawkfeather was catching up to him. She was fast, that was for sure. Or his smaller size simply wasn't on his side. He wanted to sigh softly to himself. He was a bit short, even by WindClan's standers but his fast legs made up for it; normally. Hawkfeather was quickly gaining grounds. Perhaps it was fair of him to do that early start if she was that fast.

IC: After catching up to Owlheart, Hawkfeather let out a joyous laugh as she continued to run. Though she was normally sized for a female Owlheart's small stature made them almost the same size though Hawkfeather was sure he was slightly taller. Every time she looked at him she tilted her head up slightly, she was sure of it. Distracted by her thinking Hawkfeather suddenly shook her head as a blush covered her under her pelt and she realized Owlheart was still ahead of her by a few fox-lengths. Seeing the tunnels up ahead Hawkfeather focused fully on running and caught up to Owlheart, reaching the tunnels at the exact same moment before she collapsed to the ground, purring and laughing aloud. "That was so fun!!!" As she rolled around in the grass and continued to giggle and purr happily Hawkfeather finally realized how much like a kit she was acting and sat up quickly, her under-pelt blush returning.

He came to a stop with a panting breath, glancing at Hawkfeather with a soft smile on his lips as she fell to the ground and started to roll around in the grass. He sat down as he watched her, trying to catch his breath after the harsh race. When she sat up quickly, Owlheart raised an eyebrow but a chuckle escaped from him. "Hey, there is no harm in being a kit at heart!" he said with a small nod of his head, his tail flicking. "But I suppose we should get back to being warriors; how else do we expect to catch any prey?"

Continuing to blush Hawkfeather nodded and giggled a little, surprised and comforted by Owlheart's reassurance. Still breathing heavily from running so much, something she hadn't done for a while due to her previous state, Hawkfeather forced her words out between gulps of air. "Yeah, you're right. The rabbit holes are this way." Giving Owlheart a big smile Hawkfeather rose, forcing her breathing to slow down, and started off in the direction of where she remembered seeing the rabbit holes.

He nodded, following her toward the rabbit holes. His gaze shifted around the clearing. The wind was getting colder, and he knew that it would only become harder to get food for Leaf-Bare. Any time they could get to hunt would be grand, and he knew that he wouldn't mind hunting at any time of day with Hawkfeather around. He liked her...Um, not like that...As a friend? Sure, lets go with that. He liked her childish side; her peppy side. It was a grand thing to see in such a hard time, and he was sure the camper was darker than normal when she had been down. Just being around her made him feel happy, and it was a feeling he enjoyed.

As she padded in the direction of the rabbit holes Hawkfeather stayed pace with Owlheart beside her. When she was sure he wasn't looking at her Hawkfeather snuck a glance over at him, her eyes softening slightly as a smaller, and more genuine smile settled onto her face. She didn't know what it was about Owlheart but she felt safe around him... and special. Stopping, Hawkfeather tried to think of what she had meant by that thought. She had never felt a lack in security or self-confidence around her clanmates so why would she feel an increased amount of it around him?
