New kit, Duckkit!

Duckkit padded out into the clearing, blinking his eyes in awe. "Wow." was all he could manage the words seem to stick in his throat. This place had a lot of colors. He stumbled into a den, at least that's what he thought they were called.

Dustypaw was dreaming of giant mice that were talking to him, trying to convince him to much on a bunch of dark purple plants that looked kind of like deathberries. Mumbling in his sleep and kicking his paws restlessly, he still wasn't prepared when he was suddenly set upon from somewhere else.

"Whassat?" He mumbled, bolting upright. Blinking owlishly around the den, he spotted a tiny, unfamiliar form. "Who'er you?"

"Hi I am Duckkit!! Who are you?" He asked very excited that some one was talking to him. He beamed and stood proud and tall, he turned to the cat.

"Duckkit?" Ah. A kit. And here he thought he was done having people jump out at him now that he was out of the nursery himself. Ah well - the kit had saved him from a really bizarre dream. It was probably a good thing. And it was always more fun when the older cats paid attention to kits. He figured he should humor him.

"I'm Dustypaw. Been an apprentice for a whole moon now." He stemmed proudly, giving his head a shake to try and get the sleep from his eyes. "This is the apprentice's den. What're you doing here?" He was pretty sure they were supposed to stick to the nursery. It was easier to keep track of them all that way.

"You are an apprentice?" He nearly squeled to death his heart lurched, he was talking to an apprentice! Excitement fixed inside him and he could barley contain himself. Slowly he stepped foward on shakes paws. Finally he started jumping around, "Mom says I will be an apprentice any day now." He said trying to regain his calm grip.

Dustypaw had never before heard the term apprentice being used with such...reverence. Probably, if the younger cat knew how much of his time was spent cleaning out the nurseries or picking ticks off the older cats, he'd realize it wasn't exactly all hunting and training. He was beginning to suspect that only the warriors got to do that. But still - he couldn't help but purr in delight, puffing out his chest a bit, aided in looking bigger by his scraggly fur.

"You betcha!" He breezed. "You'll be lucky when you get here. Being an apprentice is the best." And they'd be lucky too - another cat to spread out the really tedious stuff too. "We'll all be one more step to being a warrior."

Lightningkit stirred in his sleep, and opened one yellow eye. "Where's Duckkit go?" he mumbled. The kit stood up and yawned. After a bit, he padded out of a den and into another. It was called the apprentice den. He knew it because he'd been out of the nursery a lot. He saw a kit and an apprentice talking. "hey, Duckkit. Hey Dustypaw." he mumbled sleepily.

"Hey Lightningkit! You know I am bound to become an apprentice soon!" He called excitedly eyes bouncing around from cat to cat as a thought struck him that made him quiver with excitement, "You guys want to play moss ball or hide and seek?" He asked his gaze strickibg each cat in turn.

Lightningkit almost collapsed with tiredness. "Nuh-uh. Ih's too early, Duckki.." he slowly started falling asleep in the middle of his sentence. The kit half opened his eyes and stumbled back into the nursery, curling into a nice, fluffy ball of fur on the moss nest.

Duckkit yawned as well tiredness swept over him and he yawned stumbling into the nursery curling up into a ball. He put his tail over his nose falling asleep.

Lightningkit soon awoke and grinned. He stalked up to his denmate and pounced, hoping to scare him awake. "Hello Duckkit," he hissed in a raspy voice.

Duckkit bolted awake then smiled as he realized it was his friend. "Hello, up for a game?" He asked standing excitedly with a wide grin press out on his face.

Lightningkit rolled his eyes because the voice had not worked, but could not resist a grin. "sure, I'm up for a good game!" he meowed and rushed out of the den, occasionally looking over his shoulder to see if his companion was following.

Rosekit padded over and asked "Can I joined?"

Duckkit blinked his eyes thinking of a game. "Let's play moss ball and yes Rosekit please join." He said finishing his sentence with a curt nod before equalling out into the sun.
