What Do You Know About Staying Awake?

A soft yawn came from the nursery as Ryekit blinked open his eyes, before closing them as he curled up tighter into the ball. The young kit was only a few moons old, and while he had yet to leave the nursery, he was very happy being at his mother's side. He scooted closer to Honeywhisker's belly with a soft purr. However, after a few seconds, his eyes flickered open again. The kit pulled himself to his paws, and gently strolled toward the entrance of the den. Outside...It was true, he had never been there. Maybe he should go outside for the first time...But he was tired. He frowned, conflicted a bit.

Honeywhisker looked up as Ryekit stood in the entrance, looking out at the camp. She could remember when she was a kit, she did the same, she had just lost her mother though. A small smile curled on her face as she watched her son. He was so cute. Heh, he must have gotten his looks from Midnightsky. she thought happily. She was too tired to keep watching him. She had been feeling weak lately, and she felt like she could barely move. She closed her eyes, and fell asleep.

Sandkit sat in a corner away from both of them. She watched Ryekit stand in the entrance and tried to figure out what he was doing. Wasn't he going to go outside? Why was he just standing there? She wanted to go over, but was afraid of something, she didn't know what. She nervously got up, and started to walk over to Ryekit. She stopped beside Honeywhisker, and hid behind her. She couldn't work up the courage to walk up to him, or talk to him. She was like that. Her owners had beaten her, and done this many countless times, even though she was just a kit. She wasn't very social because of that. She felt like everyone would try to kill her, even these people. The only reason she felt safe around Honeywhisker, was because she was asleep.

Ryekit's ears flickered for a few seconds, aware of some movement behind him. His gaze shifted slightly, seeing Sandkit peeping around his mother's sleeping form. He frowned softly, titling his head. He didn't know Sandkit all that well, other than for the fact that she wasn't Clanborn.

His tail flickered, a bit uneasy. He hadn't been sure how to treat her, but luckily they hadn't talked much so he hadn't had to worry about that...But he hated the fact that she was hiding from him. He wasn't going to hurt her; she was a RiverClan cat now, even if she wasn't born that way. He took a deep breath, and turned toward his sleeping mother and Sandkit, and strolled over.

"Hey, Sandkit?" he whispered softly as he reached them, trying to do his best not to wake his mother up. "Uh...Do yo-you want to go play with me? I mean, like outside of the nursery?" He paused, shifting from paw to paw as he waited for an answer. He wanted to show that he was friends with her, even if this was their first time really talking.

Sandkit started to panic on the inside as Ryekit got closer. When he was near her, she backed up a bit. She could barely form words in front of him. When she tried to talk to him, nothing came out. After she tried three times, she gave up, and slightly nodded. She wasn't sure about Ryekit, she barely knew his name. The only reason she knew his name was because she had heard Honeywhisker talking to Ryekit, and she was there when he was given the name Ryekit. She cleared her throat, and made another attempt to speak. "S-Sure." she said in a soft, barely audible voice. She was surprised at how her voice sounded. She had never said a word since she was brought to camp, so she had kind of forgotten what she sounded like. She had been harshly scolded by her parents whenever she had said anything, so she mainly stayed quiet. She looked away from him, embarrassed.

'H-Hey, don't be scared," he said when she looked away from him, before moving closer to her. "Now come on," he said his eyes sparkling slightly. "Lets go play." He turned and headed back toward the entrance of the den, but paused once more at its entrance, glancing at Sandkit once again. He didn't understand why she was so shy; in fact, he was sure that was the first word he ever heard from her. He was a bit upset that she had stumbled away from him, not liking the fact that she was so scared of him. But, that was of no matter, after playing a bit together, Sandkit would surely see that they were going to be friends!

Sandkit gulped as he invited her to play with him. She hoped he didn't try attack her, or play fight. The scars on her chest, paw, and back were large enough for him to see. She shook her head. No, he wouldn't suggest that, would he? she thought. She took a couple steps toward him, stopping a couple tail lengths away from him. When she walked, she kept her head down, looking up at him every couple seconds. "I-I-Is everything okay?" she asked when he stopped. It didn't help her become more open when he was looking at her, it actually made her feel weird. She didn't know why he was doing it, and she felt like backing away from him.

He paused for a few seconds, staring at her scars before he shook his head. "No, no promble," he simply stated as he pulled himself from the nursery. He froze, his eyes winding as he took in the large blue sky and fresh air, but he quickly shook it off. "So, what should we play?" he said, turning to her. He figured play fighting was out of the question, do he wanted to get her option.

She noticed him looking at her scared, and with one of her paws covered the scar on her chest. She didn't really like it when anyone starred at her, and her scars drew attention. Sandkit slowly stepped out of the nursery. She hadn't left the nursery since she had arrived at the camp, so everything was so weird to her. She didn't know what to say either. Her eyes were tightly closed when she arrived, so she didn't really see the camp. She looked back at Ryekit, and shrugged.

"Ah..." Ryekit paused a bit as he tried to come up with a game, before noticing a ball of moss tucked over by the nursery, clearly left there for the kits to play with. "How about moss ball?" he said as he made his way over to the ball of moss, pausing to glance at the kit. "The game is simple; we throw this ball of moss around at each other and try to catch it, but if you want to play a different game..." he said, his tail flicking. However, there weren't any other games he could really think of.

Ic: Amberheart was lounging in the clearing when two small kits stepped out. She recognized them as the rouge kit Sandkit, and Honeywhisker's kit, Ryekit. Sandkit looked frail, and very timid. She padded over gently, ignoring Ryekit, and intent on winning Sandkit's trust. Everyone needed a friend. "Hello Sandkit." she mewed, "Do you like the camp?"

Sandkit thought about it for a couple seconds. Well, there's almost no way moss ball. She was about to respond to Ryekit, but then came Amberheart. A cat she didn't even know. She had seen Amberheart, but just hoped she never came over to them. Did she really have to come over? this only made Sandkit get scared. First Ryekit, and now her. Sandkit backed away, and looked down at the floor. She couldn't talk, again. She could barely talk to Ryekit, and now Amberheart, someone more intimidating that Ryekit was here. She slightly turned her head to Ryekit, waiting for him to do something.

A small frown appeared on Ryekit's face when he saw how startled Sandkit got when Amberheart came over. He took a small step forward, raising his head slightly as he stared at the older she-cat. "Hello," he said in a soft voice; trying to keep it steady. "I-I believe you startled Sandkit. She isn't the best with other cats, she is very shy," he spoke with a swish of his tail, his gaze soft but calm.

Amberheart sighed on the inside. She was afraid of this. "I'm sorry Sandkit," she mewed, bending her legs slightly and looking smaller, "but you can trust us. I promise. You're a clan member, and I can tell you, evey one of these cats would put their own lives in danger to help you. Or any other clan member for that fact." she wanted to lick her head, comfort her like a mother, but she knew it would only make her shyness worse.

Sandkit slowly looked back up at her. She didn't really think that she was telling the truth. It wasn't like she really knew anyone here, and they barely knew her. How could that be true? Even if she was in their clan, she didn't think that anyone was ever going to put themselves in harms way for her. She didn't even want to be here. She just wanted to escape from all the abuse, but she was still kind of happy. Without Midnightsky finding her, she probably would have died out in their territory.

Amberheart saw the small kits fear back out a little, but her eyes were still full of doubt and wariness. I hope I can help this poor kit. She's suffered so much. "Well, I can see you were about to play mossball, mind if I join?" she meowed, very gently rolling the ball toward Sandkit. It stopped about a mouse-length from her paws.
