Rainpaw was crouched at the top of a small hill on a moor. The wind ruffled her fur, and she couldn't think straight.
What is wrong with me? she wondered. Why did I feel that way when I saw Thornkit in the nursery?

"Sometimes I wonder if Starclan hears me," she though aloud.

Firepaw looked up at the sky. Silverpelt was begining to show. "I some times wonder that too....." Firepaw continued to look at the sky. "I think they do.....but its hard for them to show it." Still looking up,she sat down.

"Why does clan life have to be so hard?" she asked, meaning for it to be a rhetorical question. "Leaf-bare brings sorrow and pain, and no matter what time of year it is we're all fighting. Why?"
