Derping Around

Ravenpaw stuck her head out of a clump of ferns, staring at the Thunder Path. Stars twinkled above in the dark, midnight blue sky. A large, shiny monster came chugging down the Thunder Path. He moved slowly, but growled loudly. It's head was huge and block, while the rest of it was long and thing. It's eyes cast golden-yellow beams down the Thunder Path, and it's paws spun around in they're peculiar circles. It eventually moved on out of the young apprentices sight. "They're so stupid. They don't even stray from the Path." she remarked crudely, scoffing. Her ears twitched as she stepped out, moving closer to the hard, foul-smelling stretch of Thunder Path.

Squirrelpaw stalked through a patch of bushes, a freshly caught rat sitting in his jaws. He had been hunting like crazy to keep Mistflower and the kits alive, since all of ShadowClan pretty much got scattered after the battle. He saw a shadowy figure in the distance and squinted, trying to find a scent past the scent of rat. Then, as he walked further, he recognized Ravenpaw talking to herself. "Ravenpaw!" He mewed happily, jumping out of the bushes, the rat still hanging in his jaws.

Turning around in surprise, Ravenpaw gave Squirrelpaw a smile as she recognized the tom. "Squirrelpaw!" she purred happily, bounding over towards him. "Who's the rat for?" she asked, tilting her head curiously.

Squirrelpaw blinked. "This is for Mistflower and the kits we lead away after the battle," he responded, his voice a bit muffled by the rat. He never reallt liked rats, but it was no time at all to be picky.

"Oh. Can I go with you?" she replied, her voice sobering. Her tail twitched-- she hated the way rats smelled. They always smelled.. sickly, even if they weren't, to her.

Squirrelpaw was suprised by the apprentice's request. The cat had always been shy, so he never really got to know much cats in ShadowClan. "Of course," he replied after a moment of hesitation. "If you'll help me catch prey for everyone, that is..."

Ravenpaw nodded eagerly. "Yeah, of course I will!" she agreed eagerly, instantly perking up again. "Alright, how much do we need?"

"Err..." Squirrelpaw blinked at her as he thought of how much they would need. "Well, I suppose enough to give Mallowroot and Mistflower their fill, of course. Then we would need some for the kits that eat fresh-kill, and some more for you and I..." Squirrelpaw relied. That was pretty much it, and was quite a bit of mouths to feed. But that was what comes with responsibility of feeding Clanmates while there was no one else to provide for them. "I do have a squirrel and toad I just caught along with this rat in the cave, so we should almost have enough..." If only the rat he caught were much bigger.

She nodded, lifting her head. "Alright! Let's start hunting then!" she mewed optimistically, bounding back into the ferns from which she had come.

Squirrelpaw followed the excited apprentice silently, the smell rat overpowering every other possible scent he could smell.

Ravenpaw stopped, looking back at him. She waved her tail, then bounded off.

Ic: The grass poke up from beneath the dirt, making occasional crunching sounds as the two ShadowClan apprentices walked past, their jaws filled wih as much prey as they coukd find, desperate to keep Mistflower, the kits, and themselves alive. In Squirrelpaw's case, he had the rat caught from earlier in the day, a lizard, and two mice hanging from their tails in his jaws. Every cautious step, the young cat thought all the prey would fall out of his weakening grip, and that he'd embaress himself in front of Ravenpaw. At occasion, he'd glance at her for a quick second to see if she was doing all right. But, honestly, he would check on her because she's one of the only cats he didn't feel shy around. She just had that certain aura about her that Squirrelpaw liked. But this isn't the time to think about... that type of stuff, he told himself, as they started to continue their journey to the cave a couple fox-lengths from the side of the thunderpath.

Ravenpaw padded along beside Squirrelpaw, her head held high. She was carrying two lizards and two mice, all hanging by their tails, which didn't seem like much in her mouth, seeing as their tails were so thin. She glanced over at Squirrelpaw one of the times he'd stopped and looked over at her, and she flashed him a smile around the prey in her mouth.

As Squirrelpaw had glanced at Ravenpaw, she had actually smiled at him when she saw him. He whipped his head in the other direction, close to dropping all his fresh-kill. The cat tried to keep himself from blushing, which didn't work at all, so his head stayed in the same place as they padded along, until he heard a clumsy, loud noise in the distance and he looked behind them.
THUD, THUD, THUD, THUD, THUD,
Across the thunderpath, he saw a huge black dog barreling towards them, its huge ears flopping in the wind and large amounts of drool flying behind the creature. Squirrelpaw's eyes went wide with shock and the red on his cheeks went away. "Ravenpaw! Run!" He yowled, as he started to race along the side of the thunderpath, trying to keep to prey from flying out of his jaws. Oh, StarClan, I hope Ravenpaw is a fast runner! he prayed to himself.

Ravenpaw whipped her head around, staring at the dog. Her copper eyes went wide, and for a moment, she just stood there. The dog got closer though, and began barking. The noise, which seemed to shake the earth around her, shook her out of her frozen state. She stood, barreling after Squirrelpaw. She clamped her jaws around the fresh kill, determined to keep it intact. Her heart was thudding in her chest. She felt like the breath had been knocked out of her. Fear shone in her eyes as she raced across the ground. She was lagging far behind Squirrelpaw. She kept his brown figure in sight. StarClan, help us! she silently prayed, fresh kill beating against her throat. She heard the dog's teeth clamp shut, a hot breath of air puffing onto her tail. Fear suddenly gripped her and she tumbled, rolling right under the dog. The huge beast look down at her, drool dripping down onto her face. She thought something had to have been wrong with her, because instead of thinking about how she was going to die, she thought about how wet, how disgusting, that drool was. The dog made sort of a toothy grin, its ears flopping as it shook its head. Drool splattered everywhere, and the dog suddenly grabbed her by the shoulder, lifting her up and shaking her fiercely.
