Rainpaw's patrol

Spottedfeather waited for Rainpaw by the entrance of camp and curled her tail over her paws. She was going to show the new apprentice around the territories and maybe if she had time, to put a little battle training in. Or if she thought the apprentice wasn't too tired. She didn't want to tire the poor thing out and make her look like she didn't care. She did. She was going to make the first time out a fun one.

Rainpaw bounced out of the apprentices den, still filled with kit-like energy. "What are we doing today?", the grey spotted she-cat squeaked. The quiet whispering of the trees and the calling of birds urged her into the forest, and she tried to control herself to not go running into it. She shifted on her paws, wanting oh so badly to go exploring right then.

Sensing the little one's excitement, Spottedfeather decided to at least put some more fun into a patrol. "We are going to look at the borders and some other places. But, since you seem so excited, we are going to play a game on the way. Whoever can run the quietest wins. We will keep the same pace so I can make sure you don't accidentally go over a border. Lets go!" she raced out of camp and waited for the smaller cat, making sure to match her pace when she caught up. She floated over the ground, not even knowing if she was making a sound. Her apprentice was way louder than herself, but she was super quiet so the apprentice seemed normal. Spottedfeather started to put more weight in her leaps over object to make slightly more noise than her apprentice.

The young apprentice raced after her new mentor, trying to keep as quiet as she could. This was a little too much to ask for her long fur, which kept on getting stuck on practically everything. Just as she was overtaking Spottedfeather the slightest bit, she tried to leap over a fallen tree- and on the other side a bush took a strong liking to her and held to her fur like a hungry fox to a fat mouse.  She struggled to get free, but only made a ridiculous amount of noise and a whimper that went something like this: "Spottedfeatherrrr! The bush got me!" By the time her mentor would get there, she'd be in the heart of this prickly bush, with only the tips of her ears sticking up out of it.

Spottedfeather heard her apprentice call for her. She must have gotten caught. She looked back to where she was heading and a tree was almost right in her face. She jumped up and jumped back in the direction she came from and almost landed into the bush Rainpaw was stuck in. "Stop moving, i'll get you out." She reached her paw into the thicket, her own very long fur getting stuck here and there and leaving tufts of her fur in the way. She pulled an opening through the bush and unstuck most of Rainpaws fur from the thorns. She licked her paw and waited for the apprentice to crawl out.

The apprentice pulled on the bush with all her might, and to her surprise, literally half the bush's branches came with her. Now feeling quite undignified, she sat and started to pull clinging tendrils out of her fur. While she pulled multiple thorns from her feathery tail, she muttered, "That was very dumb of me, wasn't it?" She shook her head at herself. "Dumb bush ambushes me on my first day out.", Rainpaw laughed softly. Being quite gentle now, she gingerly pulled a thorn from her hind leg. Plants were not going to like her if this was her first taste of the forest.
 After grooming her pelt and taking out a couple of thorns, the young cat stood up and smiled slightly. "Now, can we continue running? I promise to avoid any malicious bushes. I think I lost the game anyways.."

Spottedfeather smiled. She liked this apprentice. "Yea, dumb bushes. Yea we can still run, and I think you were winning, my fur dragged me down." she had to at least let the new apprentice feel proud and like she did something correct. She started running again, making sure to pic a better route without so many bushes.

The grey apprentice practically glowed at the compliment, and started running again as if nothing had happened. Sure, the small scratches stung, but this was the life of a real warrior for Starclan's sake! Surely a few thorns would find their way to where the sun don't shine occasionally.. right? Weaving through the more sparsely placed bushes, she ran until she had to catch her breath. Which was just in time for her to smell something different. Was it the border for another clan? Or just into unmarked territory? "Where..are..we?", she mewed between breaths.

"We are near the Riverclan border. They currently have claim over Sunningrocks, those rocks over there. Its a great place to soak in the sun. Though I don't hold too much of a grudge against them. We fight over them all the time, to me, its a piece of territory that is mostly good for leaf-bare. That is the only time I would fight over it." Spottedfeather looked to the new apprentice and smiled. "Well that's just my opinion. You can have your own over it. Now, smell the air and try to distinguish ours from theirs."

Rainpaw sniffed at the air and the ground, and sneezed almost immediately. "They smell very..umm..fishy?" She looked around just in case a Riverclan cat was nearby. "And I can see why it's called Sunningrocks.. I can practically feel the warmth from here." The fluffy cat really wanted just to see how it felt like to lay on those rocks; even if it was just for a heartbeat. But it was Riverclan's territory, and she was sure they wouldn't be happy to see her relaxing on those oh-so-comfortable looking rocks.

"Yea, very fishy, but we probably smell horrible to them too. Now, lets go to the next place." Spottedfeather bounded along the forest, waiting for her apprentice along the way.

"I guess so." I kind of made sense to the she-cat. Why should they be the only ones who smelled absolutly fine? Dashing after her mentor, "Where next?", she questioned.

"You'll know. You have probably heard about it before." Spottedfeather raced along and stopped on a slight hill. Looking down, she saw Fourtrees and the Great Rock. "Down here." she bounded down and stopped by the Great Rock. "Do you know what this place is? Or what this rock is called?" Spottedfeather smiled down as the scruffy looking apprentice. She knew she had more energy in her, since is was practically sparking out of her. If she wasn't too tired, she could show a few battle moves to her.

She gazed up at the gigantic rock, which made her mind click to the name, which was named for it's great size and significance to the clans. "It's.. the Great Rock? ..Right?" Rainpaw had heard of it from the cats chattering that had woken her up every moon. "It's even grander than they said!", she stared up in awe.

"Yes it is. This is where the leaders speak to all the clans. I gotta say, I would be nervous up there, but i'm sure it would be nice also. This is Fourtrees. We can go to the next gathering also. Just to show you how amazing it is. To chat with so many others. Now lets go to the next place." Spottedfeather bounded away and weaved her way along the trees. "Stop here, this is the Thunderpath, you here the noise? Don't ever go on here without a warrior. Now let go further." Spottedfeather crept through the hedge and looked across the path. "That is ShadowClan territory."
