Helping Honeypaw

Dewclaw found Honeypaw sitting around camp. "Hello there, Honeypaw. If you don't mind, I'd like to know what Whitefoot has gone over with you in your training." She had noticed the apprentice sitting around bored lately and realized that Whitefoot had been really slacking lately. She's have to have a talk with him sometime.

Honeypaw looked up at Dewclaw with surprise as the deputy came over, and smiled softly at her. "Well, I saw the borders about once or twice with Whitefoot, but that was about it. Of course, you, Lionheart, and Mossstar helped a lot. I've learned how to fight and I saw more of the borders than I did with Whitefoot, and I know a bit about hunting...But I am sure I could learn more about hunting." It seemed odd, having pretty much having the whole Clan do her training, but it had been worth it. Seeing how the other warriors did certain tasks helped her more than she thought that just having Whitefoot as a mentor would of taught her. "Oh, and I guess there is also my assessment. I have yet to do that..."

Occ: Yay, her training is almost done~

"Hunting it is, then!" Dewclaw was pleased to know she knew at least a bit of hunting. She probably already had an idea of the crouch and the stalking technique, which would make it easier. "Would you like to go do that now?"

Honeypaw jumped to her paws the moment Dewclaw asked if she wanted to do it, her eyes glimmering. "Right now is great! Not like I am really doing much anyways." Her tail flickered at the thought of catching something to feed her Clanmates with. If she could catch a nice squirrel for Featherpaw...

"Very well. I assume you know the crouch?" She led the younger she-cat out of camp to the place where she had brought Featherpaw. It was nice and sunny, with the trees casting a cool shade and a pleasant breeze blowing.

Honeypaw nodded as she padded after Dewclaw, her eyes shining. "Yup, I know how the crouch. Of course, it may not be perfect..." she drifted off a bit, frowning a bit. She had only gotten the basic idea of hunting, so she knew how to do the crouch but what she should to do hunt things like mice and birds was what she was a bit foggy on. And maybe sneaking...Getting though the undergrowth without making a noise would be something she really needed to learn.

"We're not looking for perfection, just a willingness to learn- which you quite obviously have. Go ahead and get into position so I can teach you the proper stalking technique." She wasn't the best hunter, but she could catch prey and that's all Honeypaw needed to be taught to do.

Honeypaw nodded, dropping to the crouch. She felt a bit off balanced, and her tail flickered sightly as she slowly moved herself forward one step. She frowned, attempting to shift her balance a bit better. Of course, she hadn't been expecting to get it right; this is why it was training after all, but she had been hoping that maybe she would get it right so she could impress Dewclaw...Oh well, maybe she could catch something on her first try thought!

IC: "It's a good effort, but it's off. Straighten your tail up so it doesn't hit anything. Good, now let me help you with that balance..." The gray deputy nudged Honeypaw's haunches some, forcing her to adjust her weight so it was equally spread out. "Right there, that's perfect! Now, one paw in front of the other. Take it slow. Alright... Now, do you smell that? Vole. Go ahead and try it."

Honeypaw nodded a bit as she attempted to keep her tail up like Dewclaw had said, and easily let the deputy change her balance. She paused in this spot, trying to memorize how she was so she could recreate the same crouch over and slowly started to step forward, enjoying how much more smoothly she moved now. Her ears perked when Dewclaw mentioned the vole, her eyes scanning for that one piece of prey. Finally, the small brown mouse-like creature appeared in her sight and the apprentice started to pull herself forward. Her mind raced with all the small hunting tips she had learned from Whitefoot as she drew closer and close, before finally pausing and judging the jump. It seemed like a good distance away, as least she was as close as she dared to get. She swallowed as she narrowed her eyes and jumped toward the vole. However, as she sailed toward the vole, it quickly looked up and saw her. It squeaked out in fear and darted away, just missing the yellow apprentice's paws coming down. Honeypaw frowned as she looked at the small hole that the vole had disappeared into, before shaking her head with a sigh and headed back to Dewclaw.
