A Border Patrol

"Oh yes I am Twistedfoot!" he squeaked happily. "I almost forgot, I smell frogs and carrion"

A small laugh came from Twistedfoot as his apprentice finally meowed what he had smelled on the ShadowClan border, nodding. "Yes, while ShadowClan doesn't smell like flowers to us, I bet they would say the same for us or at least RiverClan for smelling weird." He turned as he glanced at the territory, taking in a deep breath. Well, here he went. "Alright, while hunting is not that hard to learn, it is more harder to carry out. The animals we hunt mainly, rabbits of course, are known for their large ears so that means that we need to be silent as we sneak up on them. Now, show me your best hunting crouch."

"Ok!" he meowed gladly lashing his head forward he placed one of his brown paws forward and a cream colored one right beside him almost under, he put his right hind leg back and the opposite leg towards the cream colored foot. Slowly lowering his body towards the ground, trying to keep his tail steady.

Twistedfoot limped around his apprentice once, watching where Longpaw placed his paws before pausing and nodding. "Very good, Longpaw," he said with a purr as he fixed his gaze on the moor. "Alright, like I said hunting is a very easy to learn but hard to carry out so don't expect to always catch what you are hunting. Sometimes the dice will really hate you. You want to be swift but quite when you are hunting so your prey doesn't know you are coming." Twistedfoot dropped into his own version of the crouch, this one better suited for his twisted paw but served the same as the one Longpaw was in. His ears gently flickered as he tasted the air, the sweet tasty scent of a rabbit catching his attention. He flickered his tail, a sign for his apprentice to stay where he was. "Watch me, and if I am lucky, I will be showing you the right way to catch something," he muttered under his breath as he slowly started to pull himself forward. His paws made no noise as he moved and soon found the grey rabbit that blended so well with the ash-covered burned grass. Twistedfoot had been amazed how much prey had stayed after the fire, but it must of been like him and his Clan and had returned to what was left just because it was their home. Twistedfoot lowered himself closer to the ground, his legs getting ready to push off of the ground. After one heartbeat...two...three, he jumped toward the rabbit, ready to chase it down if he had too. He hit the ground next to the rabbit, which caused it to jump and take off running. Twistedfoot muttered under his breath as he pushed after it, while he had been ready, he really hadn't want too. His paws thudded on the ground as he went full speed, slowing to a stop when the rabbit reached its hole and disappeared. Twistedfoot frowned, shaking his head before turning and padded back to where Longpaw was. "As you can see, I wasn't so lucky and it got away but that happens to everybody. Now how about you try your paw in hunting."

Still keeping himself in position he fixed his ears on sounds of scuffling mice and rabbits, turning his head at a somewhat close sound he saw the defiant color of brown and black pelt of the rabbit moving forward he was a few fox lengths away, he leapt forward but it scurried away "I think I leapt to early and or was too loud" he stated.

Twistedfoot just nodded, glancing at his apprentice. "Realizing what you did wrong is always helpful so you can correct it next time. How about you try it again. I believe I smell another rabbit over that way," the warrior said, pointing his nose in some random direction that did have the scent of a rabbit coming from it.

The young apprentice nodded and looked angling his ears eager to hear what it was, again with the same crouch but making sure he lifted his paws higher than the last, as the apprentice reached about a fox-length, again he leapt, but again it fled letting out a hiss or frustration " Fox-dung" he growled landing on his paws again.
