Twistedpaw's Hunting

Raccoonstar sat at the entrance of camp waiting on Twistedpaw. She had sent Minteyes somewhere yet again, so she would be training Twistedpaw yet again. It was nice to see how the training of the apprentices was coming along. She also saw how well the mentors where training the apprentices. She was going to take Twistedpaw to do some hunting training today.

Twistedpaw let out a yawn as he limped from the apprentice den. He noticed Raccoonstar sitting by the entrance of the camp. He frowned a bit; before perking up again. He made his way to his mother, his eyes shining. "Are you doing my training again, mother?"

"Yes I am. Today we are going hunting. Come now let us move will there is still prey about." Raccoonstar mewed as she made her way out of camp.

Twistedpaw grinned as he followed his mother from the camp. He had always wanted to try hunting. He was quite as they padded into the territory, his mouth open as he tasted the air for prey.

"First things first, Let me see your crouch." The leader commanded. "You need to get as close to the prey as you can so if it runs the distance isn't to far."

Twistedpaw nodded and dropped to the ground. He made sure his belly was close enough to the grass; but it wasn't rubbing against it so that it would move and alert the prey. His tail became flat and unmoving. He had been working on his crouch for a while; he wanted to be the best warrior he could be with his twisted paw.

"Very good, now try, and find some prey. I wan't to see if you can handle it." Raccoonstar said, then took a few steps, back and sunk in the tall grass.

Twistedpaw frowned, but nodded. His eyes narrowed as he kept a look out for prey. Slowly he started to pull himself forward; being as quite as he could but with his mouth open, tasting for any hint of prey. Finally, he saw a soft brown pelt on the moor, a grin appearing on his face. A hare sniffed at the grass, not aware that it was being watched. His head raced of what you had to do to hunt rabbits as he drew himself forward, being careful not to move any grass. Rabbits could hear him coming forward; so he had to be quite. When he finally found himself as close as he could get, he swallowed. Hopefully he would be able to catch it with his twisted paw...Taking a small step forward, he bunched up his muscles before leaping at the rabbit.

The rabbit's head shot up; its eyes wide when it saw the grey and white apprentice hurling at it. It spun and took off, Twistedpaw landing right behide it. The apprentice took no time in racing after the rabbit; going as fast as his twisted paw would allow him. He followed behide at a steady rate; his paws pounding on the ground as he slowly started to gain on the rabbit. Suddenly, it disappeared from view and the apprentice came to a stop. He looked down to find himself at the rim of a rabbit hole. Rabbit-dung, it had escaped.

Occ: For his twisted paw; I have decided that when hunting, the chance of missing the prey goes up by one for all prey. Just so he won't be as good as a normal cat. Not like it really mattered for this catch seeing how I got a 1. ;.;

ic: Raccoonstar's head appeared from the grass, and looked at Twistedpaw. "Try to get closer to the rabbit this time, so if it runs again you are closer." The leader disappeared in the grass again, this time looker for some prey of her own. She opened her mouth to let scents of the area be known to her. The gray leader crept forward a little, feeling the grass part in front of her. Her pelt was barely visible among the grass, her slender body cutting through the grass in front of her. The rabbit that she had detect earlier had become apparent in her view. it shifted among the grass, making the grass move occasionally, as it shifted among seeds, and plants. Slowly the leader crept closer, before springing after the rabbit.

The leader looked up from the grass again, the white rabbit in her mouth, as she looked towards Twistedpaw to see how he was going with his hunting. Raccoonstar slowly made her way back to the clearer area, trying not to disturb Twistedpaw, and his hunting. ONce she got to the area she carefully set down the rabbit to start a pile.

Twistedpaw frowned, but nodded. Get closer; he could do that. His mouth opened for any hint of prey, and once again the soft scent of rabbit reached his nose. He couched down, slowly moving toward where the scent. The soft white pelt of the rabbit stood out against the moor, but it didn't matter much to Twistedpaw; that just meant it was easier to catch. His pawsteps remained light as he drew himself closer; trying to get closer then before but not so close the rabbit would easily notice him. He paused at a good length away before swallowing. Here we go...With that, he leaped...or at least attempted. His twisted paw just seemed not to like him, so when he attempted to push himself from the ground it refused to push off correctly causing him to stumble and fall face-first into the ground. The rabbit shot it's head up before quickly bouncing away; leaving the white and grey apprentice laying there on the ground muttering small curses to himself.

The leader's ear twitched as she watched the apprentice miss. "You can do it Twistedpaw, just concentrate, and remain calm." The leader mewed, before doing one more thing of hunting herself. She looked around the grass to find a field mouse poking around. Raccoonstar pushed herself close to the ground in a hunter's stance as she crept closer to the mouse her pawsteps light, and unwavering. The leader paused then leapt onto the mouse hoping she had it trapped. The leader sat up a dead mouse sat underneath her paws. It was a small mouse, but it would feed some kits.
