Brightpaw's Battle Training

Lionstar waited patiently by the entrance of the camp, gaze fixed on the medicine den. He had agreed to help Brightpaw with her battle training, since even Medicine Cats had to learn to fight at least a little.

Ooc: Low muse...

Brightpaw came bounding out of the medicine cat den with cobwebs sticking to her tail. She stopped when she met Lionstar. "Ready?" she cocked her head to the side.

The tom tilted his head slightly. "Er, yes, but are you?" He joked, gently swatting at the cobwebs stuck to her tail to get them off. "We have quite a bit to cover, so let's not waste any daylight!" With that, Lionstar nodded to the medicine cat apprentice and was off at a swift pace out of camp towards the Sandy Hollow.

Brightpaw became embarrassed and followed him into the hollow. "What do we work on first?" She asked him.

"We'll start with the easier moves and work up from there." He meowed, pausing as they reached the hollow. "Alright, so for starters how about we start with Front Paw Blow? It's very simple, but you still need to pay attention of course." Lionstar faced a bush, suddenly lashing out a quick paw that caused several leaves to come spiraling down.

Ooc: Since you already know how to use the battle system, I won't bother with the HP/SP and bold words, if that's alright. Unless of course you need refreshing, but I assume you're fine, yes?

Oh and I'll reply tomorrow. I'm a bit busy right now.

OOC: Aye Capt'n

IC: Brightpaw lashed out as her instructor showed her, nearly putting all her strength into the one move, her body ended up going with it. She landed in the dead leaves with a thud. "Ow..."

Lionstar padded quickly over. "You alright?" He asked, nudging the apprentice gently. "There's no need to put so much effort into such a simply move. It'll waste your energy as well as risk hurting yourself like just now."

Brightpaw got up slowly and looked down at her paws, embarrassed yet again. "I'm sorry Lionstar."

"It's fine. Let's try again." He meowed, a spark of amusement in his eyes. The tom repeated the move once more before turning back to Brightpaw. Lionstar nodded, as if saying she could try again.

Brightpaw looked down and tried to find balance before trying the move again, nearly perfecting it but not quite. She seemed please with herself when she looked up at Lionstar and gave him a smile.

"Well done. Onto the next move..." He paused, glancing at the bush. Deciding to use it for an example again, he padded over to it. "It's much like Front Paw Blow, but stronger and more precise, rather than just a quick smack. It's for quick, minor damage in case all your energy isn't needed to scare an enemy off." Lionstar lashed out a quick claw, sending several more leaves scattering about, claw marks obvious on the bush's branches. The power difference was plain and easy to notice.

Brightpaw felt nervous putting more emphasis in her blow, seeing what had happened when she put everything she got in the last one. Her paws trembled as she prepared and did the move just as her leader had, only a little more shakily and unpracticed.

"Great for a first try. You'll get used to it, so there's no need to worry." He meowed encouragingly, seeing as Brightpaw was shaking. The tom examined the branches, seeing slight claw marks; not too deep or too big, which was fine since she was an apprentice. "Alright, let's move on. The next move you'll learn is called 'Belly Rake', and it may be a bit hard to pull off. Watch closely." Lionstar first faced a small bush, leaping on it and digging his claws in the under-branches, which were now exposed as he was "pinning" the bush. He left several deep, harsh claw marks that would normally inflict much damage on a cat.

"...That's if the opponent is smaller than you. Go ahead and try it."

Brightpaw gulped. The move seemed easy to watch but she imagined the bush being her own belly and her stomach flip flopped. Aside from the battle training she would walk away with the knowledge that she should never cross her leader. She took her place by the bush and readied her body. She pounced suddenly, failing to "pin" and got her coat pulled by the many small branches and twigs. Brightpaw started to panic and scrambled to get out, only tangling herself further.

"Calm down! Struggling is making it worse." Lionstar warned quickly, padding over to help her get out. "Here, I'll help untangle you. Try to stay still and slowly work yourself out." He gently tugged on a few branches that were the most loose on her fur, freeing up some room. Glancing up at her, he nodded, as she had to get herself out. He couldn't pull her, after all.
