Falconpaw's Assessment (Final Part)

Still smiling in triumph, Falconpaw returned to the area and parted his jaws. No new scents greeted him, so he slowly traversed forward. Eventually the familiar scent of rabbit returned to him, and he spotted it hanging a ways off. Once again he began running towards it, taking care to be even lighter on his paws than before.

The rabbit was unprepared for the full force of the fast feline, and it yelped in terror as it finally saw Falconpaw descend upon it, but the quick apprentice pinned it down before it could run. Jerking around underneath him, Falconpaw put it out of its misery with a quick nip to the neck. He couldn't believe the luck he was having now! Picking up the plump rabbit in his jaws, he prepared to take it back to the mouse when something caught his attention. A different, yet familiar foul smell. Moving a few pawsteps forward, the apprentice cast his widening eyes on the Thunderpath. How did I stray all the way over here?

Duststorm cheered silently again when Falconpaw caught the rabbit. However, as he watched, his apprentice seemed to realize how close he had strayed to the Thunderpath. The warrior prepared himself to step in if necessary.

OoC: I will, I promise.

The sight of it made him shudder, but now... now was not the time. Forcing his eyes away from it, Falconpaw trudged back to his mouse and placed the rabbit on top of it before continuing on the hunt. Another rabbit hit his senses, and he quickly went on the prowl.

Despite all his earlier failures, it was like this was all second nature now. The rabbit did make an effort to evade him, but Falconpaw was too swift and slammed the creature down to the ground, nipping its neck and letting its life drain from its eyes. The feelings of success began to cover his feelings of unease at having been that close to the Thunderpath.

Duststorm watched as Falconpaw caught his third piece of prey. The warrior was rather impressed, especially after the performance during their training session.
Now is the time, he thought to himself. He waited until the apprentice had hidden the prey, and then crept slowly through the tall grass until he was just behind Falconpaw, making sure to stay downwind the whole time. Crouching in preparation, the tom counted down in his head before leaping on top of Falconpaw, claws sheathed, and tackling the apprentice to the ground.

Falconpaw deposited his third piece of prey on the pile, feeling rather proud of himself now. But that pride came at a cost: he wasn't even able to turn around to return to the hunt before something heavy landed on top of him, pinning him to the ground. For a moment, eyes wildly looking around, the brown-furred apprentice felt like the prey now. Any sense of thought left him now: all he could think of was that he was under attack. Pushing a paw down to the ground, he shifted his weight to the left and bucked up hard into his attacker, using the opportunity to kick out at the attacker's leg. With a grunt, he was able to knock the bigger cat off of his back and roll over, jumping to his paws and unsheathing his claws before he finally was able to see who had attacked him.

"Duststorm! What are you doing?"

OoC: Dice are mah fwiends now. And I hope I did this right too.

"Assessing your battle reflexes!" claimed Duststorm before rushing at Falconpaw again. He used the Front Paw Strike to jab at the apprentice before drawing back, waiting for the younger cat to make a move.

Falconpaw panted out, having been caught completely off guard. He barely remembered to sheath his claws before launching himself at Duststorm, keeping his paw flat as he attacked with a Front Paw Strike of his own, quickly darting behind his mentor to keep out of his reach.

OoC: Should I add the HP/Stamina?

The warrior whirled around, but spun too quickly, knocking himself off balance and falling to his side, exposing his belly.

OoC: No, I'm not setting this up. shush

Falconpaw seized on the opportunity and jumped on Duststorm, quickly using the Belly Rake to its maximum effect before hopping off to avoid a counterattack.

OoC: I am lazy. Super lazy. But it's getting done, so whatever XD


Once Falconpaw had jumped off, Duststorm struggled to his paws. Once he had steadied himself, the older cat dipped his head to his apprentice.
"You did well," he praised. "Now catch one more piece of prey, and you may head back to camp. Don't forget the other pieces."


OoC: just catch it or whatever. I'll notify somebody about this~

OoC: Are you gonna notify the police?

Falconpaw nodded shakily, still a bit on edge from their bout, but he waved his tail in acknowledgement before heading back out to catch one more piece of prey. He felt a bit more tired now, but he wouldn't give up now. One final rabbit crossed along the way, and the apprentice shut his eyes before opening them and rushing after it.

The fact that his energy had been further spent was evident in how he approached the rabbit. He was still fast, but not nearly as much as he had been before, and, with the rabbit having already been on the run, Falconpaw had no chance of catching it. Gasping for breath as he watched it vanish, he silently cursed himself for what he felt was barely any effort given to catching it. Just my luck, he grumbled before he headed back to his pile and put one rabbit in his jaws. Attempting to tuck the mouse under his chin and drag the other rabbit back to camp, he thought to himself, I hope nobody saw that.

OoC: Yes. The police must know. No, silly. I need to tell either the deputy or leader Falcon is ready to become a warriors. :P


Duststorm watched as Falconpaw missed once again. Shaking his head, the tom turned away and began racing back to camp. Soon, he and his apprentice would be working side-by-side, as equals.
