Dewpaw's Assessment

ooc: After this, you should only have to wait for your month to be done. Then you can be a warrior :)

Lionstar prodded Dewpaw awake. Today was a special day. "Dewpaw." He whispered. "Today is your assessment. Let's go." With that he left the den and waited outside.

"My assessment? Cool!" She was awake after a heartbeat and out of the den shortly after. "What do I get to do first? Do I patrol a border by myself and chase off some attackers from an enemy Clan?" Dewpaw swiped at the air in front of her with outstretched claws.

"We're hunting." Lionstar mewed simply, a bit of amusement in his mew. "I assume you're ready to go?"

"Oh." At first she seemed disapointed, but then brightened at the thought that she could provide for her Clan. "Yup! All ready!"

"Alright. So, I want you to catch as much prey as possible before sunhigh, then return to this spot. I'll be secretly watching you. If you see me, don't talk to me. Just continue hunting." He meowed, then shot off into the undergrowth, leaving her alone.

Nodding, even though he had already left, Dewpaw began to head towards Snakerocks, but decided that it'd be to early for prey to be there and doubled back to the Owl Tree. Just as she thought, birds were practically in a gathering around the tree, feasting on berries probably fetched from nearby bushes. Instead of rushing out like she would have before, Dewpaw actually thought rationally for a moment. I'll scare them all away if I just charge out there. Maybe I can wait until one comes out and I'll ambush it... kinda like a warrior. Yeah! Fortunatly, before she had to wait long, a bird from a tree a few paces away fluttered to the ground and began to hop over to the tree, passing the bush she hid in. Leaping out, she tackled the bird in a frenzy of feathers, snapping its neck and hiding in a nearby patch of grass with the prey before she was seen or heard by the other birds.

After waiting for what felt like an eternity, she gave a small hiss of frusteration. Some of the birds were beginning to fly away, and she couldn't let that happen. Leaping out of the bush, she extended her claws and snagged a bird by the wing as it attempted to take off. Though she caught this one, she lost the other three sitting around. "Oh well." She muttered quietly to herself. "At least I got this one."

Lionstar watched carefully nearby, hidden among the thick underbrush. So far, so good.

Burrying her two birds, she stalked a few paces away, lifted her nose to the air and opened her mouth. Mouse. Follwing the scent quietly, she made sure to rest her paws lightly on the ground, as she was taught. Dewpaw say the creature, shifting through some browned leaves on the ground. Slowly, hiding in the bracken, she began to close in, unaware that her tail began to swish. Before Dewpaw had a chance to spring, her tail hit the clump of bracken and sent the mouse skittering away, causing her to hiss in frusteration.

Lionstar looked at the sky. Maybe one more chance at prey, he thought, looking back at his apprentice from his hiding spot.

It's always the tail, isn't it? With a quick glance at the sun, she saw it was close to sunhigh. Oh, no! I only have two pieces of prey! Maybe a third will help? Sniffing the air, the scent of squirrel filled her nose and mouth immediatly. Since she was still hiding in the bracken, she had perfect cover. The squirrel, as predicted, was nearby. It ran past, not expecting the attack in the least. The grey she-cat jumped from the bracken, timing it perfectly and delivering a quick killing bite. Dragging it to the rest of her catch, she glanced up at the sky and saw that she was now out of time.
