Hardpaw's Assessment :D

Shadowstar padded to the apprentice's den just as the sun started to set in the sky. It was almost the perfect time to start hunting. "Hardpaw!" She called into the den. "Come on!"

Hardpaw silently walked out of the den, ready and excited for what was soon to come.

"Good, you got up! Today, you will be doing your assessment. Are you ready for it?" She asked as she turned around and started out of the entrance of the camp.

"Yup." Hardpaw said, loud as he could. His voice seemed a little hoarse today.

"Good!" She purred as they made it to the center of the territory. "Okay, so what you are going to do is hunt until sunrise and try to catch as much prey as you can, but you better not slack off because I will be watching you as youdo this assessment. Although don't worry about me because you wont find me. Ready? Go." She mewed.

Hardpaw took off into the forest, using all four legs for speed. (lol, I like to relate my characters to myself in real life, I love running...) Soon he found a spot where three trees sat in what looked like a single-file line next to each other, and stopped to sniff the air.

After he ran a distance, Shadowstar started to follow him, making sure she stayed well hidden in the brush underneath the trees. It was the perfect spot.

He caught the scent of something oddly familiar, a furry animal of some sort. He immediately followed the smell deeper into the nearby brush.

She watched him quietly, hoping for the best of luck with this assessment. She knew he was good with hunting, but she hoped the pressure wasn't going to hold him back from his true potential.

Hardpaw's nose was telling him the truth. He saw off in the distance a little mouse scavenging for some sort of food... Whatever mice eat lately. He quickly balanced his paws and leaped at the puny animal.

Hardpaw rolled away in anger as the rodent ran, squealing from freedom. He quickly arose and sniffed the air.

Still silently stalking, Shadowstar half slumped in her spot at the sight of the apprentice missing his first target, but of course, she lifted herself right back up. There was still plenty of time for him to get his game up.

Hardpaw followed this scent, that smelled more revolting. He found it led to a frog. He stared at the rodent remembering one of his first catches. He prepared and pushed to a stronger leap this time.
