Sharing Tongues

Rainpaw sat down in the middle of camp and began to clean herself. Her fur was shining in the warm sunshine. She looked up and watched a few scattered clouds drift across the sky.

Bubblepaw padded out off the apprentice den and sneezed. He walked over to the fresh-kill pile and picked out a cardinal. He went to sit next to Rainpaw,"Morning".

"Good Morning. How are you?" Rainpaw purred. She was in a good mood that morning.

He yawned and nibbled at the cardinal's wings,"Dreadfully tired, my dreams just keep getting crazier and crazier". He sneezed again for the forth time this morning."You've been good I hope"?

"Yes, I'm fine," Rainpaw mewed. She stared at Bubblepaw for a few moments. "So, what are your dreams about?" She asked with curiosity in her voice, but then quickly added, "If I'm being too nosy then you don't have to answer; I hate to pry."

"Nah it's fine. You see when I was a young kit both my parents disappeared. I was taken in by a rouge who I found out later killed my father and under his care my mentor would train me roughly", He sighed and spoke again ," My dreams are filled with these memories and what would have happened if me and Gracestep had never run away". He chuckled,"Well enough of that, I wonder where everyone else is"?

Rainpaw stared in shock. She had no idea Bubblepaw had such a complex history. She had few questions for Bubblepaw, but she didn't want to be rude so she held her tongue. "Oh, um, most of them are probably still in their dens," she said in answer to his question.

Bubblepaw smiled, He could tell he had silenced her and for some reason that amused him.

Bramblepaw woke up gave his fur some quick licks and then padded out of the apprentices den. He went to the fresh kill pile and chose a mouse. He saw Bubblepaw and Rainpaw and went to sit next to them. He sat down and then said, "Hey. How's it going?".

"Hi Bramblepaw," Rainpaw purred to her friend.

"Beautiful day today." he said finishing his meal and not knowing what else to say.

"Yes, it is," Rainpaw purred in agreement. She looked up at the sky and watched some white clouds drift across the blue. "Have you ever wondered why rainclouds are grey and regular clouds are white?" she asked the two apprentices, her eyes still on the sky.

Bramblepaw looked up at the sky "Sometimes I do wonder that. I never really understand why it does that instead of staying that beautiful white color."

Bubblepaw smiled and laid over to his side and purred,"My mother always told me that it had something to do with evaporation and condensation but I think that rainclouds are just filled with worry, and only when they cry them out do they turn into a cloud of pure white".
