Who Let the Dogs Out A DOG-Gone Dangerous Quest
A small patrol of warriors led by Sunfire has stumbled upon the violently disfigured corpse of a fox. View more details here. In an effort to locate the threat lurking in SkyClan's territory, Honeydew has organized two investigations to carefully search for clues.
Wolfstar is leading her patrol into the heart of SkyClan territory, where many dangerous predators tend to nest in Halfstone. The patrol will search for clues to try and determine what kind of creature could be lurking in their territory.
RULES: At the beginning of the topic, during your first post, roll one Hunting Dice to investigate with your character. Your character will use their senses to determine whether or not they can detect signs of the predator still in the area. After each participant writes out an investigation post and rolls, the predator will make its appearance and the battle can begin! 1-3: Fails to detect signs of the predator. 4-6: Detects minor to moderate signs, such as a faint scent, territorial scratch marks, etc. 7-9: Detects strong signs, such as droppings, tufts of fur, etc. 10: Discovers the predator's wearabouts - get ready for an encounter! Passive Bonus: +2 to Clan Attacks thanks to Halfstone
Timer: The timer for April has been lifted! A DOG-Gone Dangerous Quest is currently active, and tensions are high. Danger could be lurking around every corner... If a predator is rolled (10), KJsage is in control of it. For ALL rules, be sure to read the SkyClan Patrols and Duties post in its entirety!

Wolfstar led the patrol through the trees, grimly silent. A fox torn to shreds, and by no cat. That was a bad omen if she'd ever seen one, and now the clan would investigate. She led Stormwatcher, Lighttail, Harespring, Ospreypaw and Firepaw toward halfstone. It was a dangerous task, and they couldn't know for sure where these predators were, but the old rocks seemed like a good place to look toward given the history of blood spilled there.
The patrol had already been warned to keep their eyes and ears open, to keep close as they investigated for any signs of their precious territory being disturbed. Wolfstar's blue gaze swept over the rocky crevices as they approached halfstone, searching for signs of anything out of place.
Nothing, it seemed. The leader's eyes narrowed. The beast, if it was still on their territory, had done well to hide. Wolfstar, simply put, did not trust it at all. There was the possibility it was actually gone... And Wolfstar highly doubted Skyclan would be so lucky. They never were.

A fox would’ve been bad enough. It had been a fox that had stolen away her mother’s memory and mangled her face and leg, leaving poor Snowfoot scarred in more ways than one. Whatever this beast was, Lighttail knew it was capable of destroying them all. As she followed Wolfstar, Lighttail felt the internal struggle between her terror telling her to flee and her care for her mate and the lives of his entire clan pressing her to stay.
She’d been told to keep her eyes open, sure, but Lighttail found herself breaking that order. The harsh light of day was still strange to her, and she wasn’t used to hunting for anything in it. She slowly began combing the area, eyes closed but nose and ears alert with paws and whiskers lingering on every touch. Body rigid in concentration, the former ShadowClan cat searched in the dark. Perhaps she would be the one to find the beast. Perhaps she would save the clan. Not that that was ever Lighttail’s luck.
A strange scent caught her attention, drawing the silver cat onward. She opened her eyes, scanning the area for anything that could smell this bad…
There it was. “Wolfstar! I found something!” she called. Dung. Dirt. Whatever one cared to call it. And not even buried.

Firepaw padded along behind Wolfstar and the rest of the patrol, his tail trailing low in the grass and dirt as they carefully picked their way through the forest. His fur was on end, but the presence of both Harespring, his mentor, and Wolfstar, his own kin, helped somewhat to calm his nerves. Of course, there was really only so much that could be done to dispel his fear when an unknown predator was on their territory. This was, in theory, just an investigative patrol, but he knew just as well as anyone else that anything could happen today.
The young black and red tom's nose twitched as he walked, ears swiveling as well while he tried to pick up on anything that could be of use to their search. Wolfstar hadn't seemed to find anything yet, but Lighttail's familiar voice briefly drew Firepaw's attention. He craned his head to see what the what the she-cat had spotted and puffed a breath of relief. It was just droppings - not the actual beast itself. He...couldn't decide if that was a good thing or not.
He could hardly smell anything over the stink of the intruding creature's dirt, though one thing did stand out to him. A few tail-lengths away, embedded into the bark of a tree, were deep gouges. So, with a twitch of his whiskers, Firepaw trotted to the base of the tree, yellow eyes scanning the scene curiously. "Um...W-Wolfstar?" He called softly. "There's something over here too..." Hopefully, the animal that did this wasn't still around.

Stormwatcher followed close behind his sister. "I still think its riverclan" he muttered complainingly under his breath as he kept his senses as aware as possible for whatever was lurking.
"they probably baited this thing over here. We should do the same back to them" he grumbled still unforgiving as ever for what they had done to his clan.
"keep close ospreypaw!" he ordered his apprentice. Ever since losing family at the battle he had been more protective over his apprentice than ever before. He wouldnt let anything happen to Ospreypaw.
----
He sniffed around but found nothing. "the monster has probably gone back to perchstar's den. It would fit right in with her he grumbled to himself kicking a pinecone ahead of them in frustration

- Ospreypaw -
Ospreypaw followed after the patrol, scanning dutifully for signs she wasn’t sure she really wanted to find. The rest of the patrol seemed to have better luck searching. She paused to stare up at the scratch marks Firepaw had discovered. They were nearly the length of her tail, big enough to slice open the reported foxes – or a cat – if they’d been directed at flesh instead of bark. Whatever had made these…
The sound of howling still rang in her ears when she awoke at night, refreshed in her mind by clanmates’ gruesome descriptions of mutilated foxes. If this creature was the same that had driven them from their home by lake…
Ospreypaw shivered, broken out of her thoughts by the call. “Coming!” She trotted up to Stormwatcher’s shoulder, for once was glad of the warrior’s caution. Her mentor’s presence was always comforting and he must know how badly she needed that reassurance today. A little of the tension drained from her paws as she turned her gaze from the ground to her clanmates.
She resumed her search but stuck close to Stormwatcher. She looked at the shady space between trees as she walked and stumbled a bit at an unexpected dip in the mud. Her stomach sank as she looked down at what had caused her stumble. It was a pawprint no cat could have made, large enough to swallow both her paws in it. "Wolfstar!!" She looked farther along the forest floor, finding a whole set of tracks leading towards a thicker patch of bushes. Judging by the overpowering scent of the tracks and the same one now coming downwind from the brambles... "Watch out! These are fresh!"

An uneasy feeling had settled over Wolfstar - the feeling of being watched.
Lighttail called to her, and Wolfstar grimaced at the sight of what she'd found. The droppings indicated an animal much larger than a fox, that was certain. And they were not consistent with something that only fed on plants. And then Firepaw, having found deep scratches nearby. Territorial markings that made Wolfstar's tail lash once in anger. This was Skyclan territory, not the territory of some filth.
"Good find, both of you." She mewed, gently resting her tail on Firepaw's shoulder before she moved to continue her search. Stormwatcher was grumbling about Riverclan and kicked a pinecone... Wolfstar shook her head in silent disapproval. He at least had the sense to keep Ospreypaw close.
The apprentice was more focused on their task, and Wolfstar's fur lifted. "Ospreypaw, Firepaw - up a tree. Now." The leader ordered. The tracks were fresh, indeed. And a deep, rumbling growl that bled into a deep snarl sent a chill down her spine.
---
Days. It had been days since they were lost here. Days since the accident. Days that blurred together, one into the next. This part of the forest was unfamiliar, and the pained gasp of her companion made her feel as if the tall trees were closing in around them. Shoulders tense, tail tucked, mismatched light brown and blue eyes stared at the moving figures through the trees. She had gone from wary and watchful to deeply, deeply fearful in a mere heartbeat as the sounds of something approaching closer.
Cats. Small, weak... But she had only ever felt the sting of claws from the creatures. And her friend was in so much pain... Overwhelming pain. She crouched low, defensively. The creatures in front of her were smaller, but they were a threat. One she would not tolerate.
These cats were more muscular than the ones she had faced elsewhere, with thick fur covering broad shoulders and muscular haunches. A few of them looked a little too capable for her comfort. The adrenaline-addled stared down at one - blue eyes, white and light gray, stripes adorning her face that with her fur coloring reminded her of another... Soft. She would have been perfect friend material, once. The brown striped one near her looked unhappy, grumbling. His movements were the ones that caught her attention.
Unfortunately for him.

A white and brown blur was all Wolfstar caught a glimpse of before it had lunged for her clanmate, massive jaws aiming for damage faster than she had a hope of moving. "No!" With a hiss, Wolfstar moved to follow, claws unsheathing as she raked furiously at the beast.
It wasn't quite as big as the wolves that had wreaked carnage at the lake... But it almost seemed to come close. And this time it was on their territory, with no hope of the warriors escaping it. And even if they did, where would they go? Back to camp, where it could follow? Where kits and queens slept in the nursery, where frail elders sat in their own den? A camp where patrols were out hunting, or along the borders... No. No, she would not lead this beast there. Nor would she leave her clanmate behind.

Firepaw glanced over at Stormwatcher and Ospreypaw as they both scanned the undergrowth for signs of the unknown beast, but his attention quickly fell to Wolfstar as she spoke, praising him for his find. With a pleased nod, he stepped back from the tree and suddenly realized how quiet the forest had become. With the exception of their small patrol, there was hardly any noise - not even the birds were singing. Ospreypaw's sudden announcement caught his ear and, with a shudder, Firepaw turned to look at the young she-cat, wondering what she'd found.
He didn't get a chance to find out though, as a deep, thunderous snarl echoed from the brush, turning his blood cold. They'd found it - the monster that had made their territory its home. He backpedaled as the undergrowth exploded with movement, claws unsheathing defensively when a brown and white creature surged into the midst of their patrol. Distantly, he heard Wolfstar call out, but the words were lost to the blood roaring in his ears. "Stormwatcher!" He shrieked, legs trembling as the beast bore down on the warrior with sharp fangs.
Wolfstar was quick to react and before the beast could continue its assault on Stormwatcher, she was upon in in a flurry of claws. Fear flooded the young apprentice's body but he couldn't bring himself to watch as the monster tore through his clanmates! With a shaky snarl, Firepaw flung himself forward, heedless of the danger and his abysmal experience in battle. "Don't touch them!" He hissed furiously. Jaws agape, the tom snapped at whatever he could reach which, in this case, happened to be the beast's tail. Digging his claws into the soil, he clamped down harder and threw his weight to the side in an attempt to do as much damage as possible.
Firepaw used Tail Yank dealing 7 HP at the cost of 15 SP. Now-You've-Done-It is stunned (?) for one turn.

Kiefer Aggitated Dog | HP: ??/?? | SP: ??/??
"And in the end I will show you that this life is only madness."
He had been traveling ahead of his mate when he heard the shrieking of surpised prey. The dog's head lurched, and in response he growled in pain, a deep, gutteral sound. He bolted forwards, towards the noise, back to his mate. As he emerged from the undergrowth, the pair were surrounded by cats. More prey. The huge beast bared his teeth, his snarl ripping through the forest. His blood pounded in his ears. Chase. Chase. Kill. Kill.
His attention was focused first on the one that attacked his mate. Snapping forward, his jaws latched around the cat's shoulders. He ripped his head from side to side viciously, tossing the cat to one side. As he advanced forward, towering over the little thing, his vision clouded and ran red. No thoughts except... Kill. Kill.
Kiefer used Iron Bite on Wolfstar, dealing 22 damage and -30 SP.

Despite the patrols best efforts to get the drop on the predators, all their searching for clues had led to them being ambushed. Stormwatcher yowled out as he got jumped and a loud ringing in his ears sounded off as he staggered stunned and dazed after the snap had hit him.
He blinked trying to focus through the pain - where was Ospreypaw??! She had been right by his side not moments ago. It was not long before his sister was helping to counter attack the beast.
He staggered back still stunned for the moment
Come on wake up!! he hissed to himself
Stormwatcher is stunned this turn and cannot attack-
