Pineblossom was one of the few names she knew outside of her own family. Mother told them about her before, about how amazing of a friend Pineblossom was. Juniperkit wondered what it was like, to be called a friend. Would she ever have friends? Mother had mentioned more than once that she was to have friends, but what did that even mean? Was Hollowpaw considered her friend? Perhaps Pineblossom could teach her what a friend was. The thought made her paws tingle, and she was swift in finding the older she. It was easy to find the brown molly whose face was covered in white that reminded her of snow. "Hello," She greeted politely, wincing when her soft voice carried to her own ears. She had been so excited, she forgot to raise her voice. "Hello!" She tried again, feeling her throat hurt at having to speak so loudly. Would Pineblossom have heard her?

Pineblossom
Pineblossom groomed her fur while she had a moment of respite from her responsibilities. Her mind wandered, thinking of her kits and how their training was going, the things that she and Silverhawk had spoken about recently and she wondered if Silverhawk would bring it up with Hawkmist. More troubling thoughts turned to her ill family and wondered if she would possibly…If they were going to…
She was so distracted that she didn’t hear the tiny kit’s mew the first time, but the second hello came to her. Pineblossom paused and turned, surprised to find a new face looking up at her. “Oh hello.” She adjusted from her grooming position to look a the little one. “How are you? Did you need something?” Pineblossom kept her voice gentle. She hadn’t spoken to this kit before and she wanted to make sure that she did not come of as frightening—though she had been told that she was not really scary as she once seemed to be.

Pineblossom didn't seem to hear her the first time, but thankfully her second try worked. The older she-cat had sad, kind eyes and radiated a sense of comfort. No wonder she was Mother's friend; she seemed just the kind of cat to be able to comfort Mother. Mother was always so sad; even when she acted cheerful and upbeat there was that awful air of missing something, as if Mother had once had another half and that half was gone now. She wondered where the half of Mother went. Pineblossom was Mother's friend-- did that mean that friends were cats that comforted each other? Juniperkit felt a shy smile creep onto her face as softly she asked her question, "Can you tell me what friends are?"
