Subject: Jaykit's Apprentice Ceremony Fri 26 Jan 2024 - 20:59
Poppyshine
There was one ceremony left for today, and a third apprentice would join the other two for their vigil. It was better this way, so they would not grow too cold out in these snowy mountains. Poppyshine’s gaze searched until she found the last one in question. “RiverClan, please remain. This last ceremony is just as important as the rest.” She gestured towards Jaykit, indicating for him to come forward.

Temperamental tufts of ill-mannered kitten-fluff despairingly decorated the wild features of little Jaykit's features, wan muted light of a drowsiness-touched gaze abruptly going sharp with a vibrant fleecing of interest at Poppyshine's summons. A fine dusting of rapidly melting snowfall marred the young tom's dark coat, lingering stubbornly even with the persistence of several insistent shakes. Was it fair that Minnowpaw went first? Hardly- especially 'cause he was the oldest! But at least he received the additional padding of the longest ceremony, seeing as there were little other competitors for the attention of the Clan. That admission helped soothe the worst of the lingering chill that graced the fine, exposed features of his nose and ears.
Striding forward in a prickled, ruffled walking embodiment of painfully mischievous attitude, the young Jaykit was quick to eagerly replace his littermate's place as the latest array of spectacle.

Poppyshine
It was a bit of trouble deciding who exactly should mentor Jaykit. He was known to be a bit rough around the edges, which mean that he would need a mentor who would not be bothered by that behavior, but still steer Jaykit in the right direction…After talking things over with Perchstar, they agreed on what would be best.
Poppyshine looked to the new kit that took his spot and she began. “Jaykit, you have reached the age of six moons. It is now time for you to be apprenticed.” She thought of the last Jay- that she had known: Jaystar, her first leader for those brief months before his disappearance. Her memories of him were a little vague, and a little tainted by the Dark Forest that overtook them during her youth. She knew from elders’ stories that there had been a second Jaystar in generations before. Maybe this name held some power, and this Jaykit too would one day become Jaystar. “From this day forward, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Jaypaw.”
Her eyes caught the pelt of the cat that would be mentoring him. “Your mentor shall be Larkspring, who had shown tremendous growth as a warrior, and will teach you all the same.” She smiled between the both of them and stepped down from her makeshift branch to finally conclude the evening.
Larkspring attended these ceremonies because they were required, not because he wanted to be there. He wanted to be at Cindersky’s side during her treatment and make sure that she was healing well. He wanted to do whatever he could while she was still not quite back on her paws. Yet, he was here, watching three runts finally make it to being an apprentice. What he had not expected at all was to be given an apprentice while he still had one. Weren’t there other cats more qualified? Who had more time? Who would care about teaching little scraps of fur how to hunt?
He swallowed down his irritation and moved swiftly to the front. The quicker this is over, the faster he can return to Cindersky. He leaned down, pressing his nose a little haphazardly against Jaypaw’s. “We’ll start training when there is actual prey to be had,” he told him dryly. “You had best work hard to keep up with me.”

Larkspring! ...Who was Larkspring?
A delicate whisper of carefully schooled interest mottled the little features of Jaypaw's face, the dark washings of unkempt fur standing sharp and pronounced against the twin-mirror portion of his face softened under the gentle press of lighter fur as he made to seek out the newly-directed tom. Evidently, the apparent match-up was a surprise meant to be mutual in nature- if the sour threadings of tepid surprise donned by Larkspring was any effective measure of indication. No matter, he didn't need any special treatment! Wayward hopes of a potentially affectionate relationship promptly withering upon his firmly clamped-down-upon tongue, Jaypaw attempted to muster up his most stern expression as he promptly marched across the clearing to meet Larkspring. The young tom didn't further sway even at the abrupt, rather graceless collision of their noses in ceremonial respite.
"I'll work harder than any other apprentice," Jaypaw firmly agrees, shockingly serious, "twice over."
