The advent of a mass sickness had done much to keep many of Sablestrike's clanmates confined to their nests, even so Shadowclan persisted. The kits that had traveled to the lakes hadn't been affected too greatly by the journey and had slowly been flourishing despite the queens themselves showing symptoms. It was inspiring to see such growth despite the conditions they were forced to endure, but Sablestrike knew that his clan was strong. Growing in tough conditions was just part of being a Shadowclanner. Positioning himself in front of the sick Sablestrike let out his call.
"Let all cats able gather around for a clan meeting!" His choice to hold this ceremony so close to the sick was calculated. Even if it didn't seem like much adding a new apprentice to their ranks would keep his clanmates from losing hope. They would survive this sickness and flourish.
Larkkit, padded over to a spot as close to the front as possible, and sat down with her tail flickering back and forth. She looked around at all the other cats as the excitement in her chest threatened to burst out, today was the day she got made an apprentice and she could barely stand it. "Larkkit, please step forward." Sablestrike waited for Larkkit to follow his instruction before continuing. "you have reached the age of six moons and are ready to begin your apprenticeship. Until the day you earn your warrior name you shall be known as Larkpaw, and your mentor will be Badgermask. She is a very capable warrior and I trust she will guide you well."
Larkkit quickly stepped forward and stared at the tom without blinking as he announced her new name and told her who her mentor was going to be. Badgermask's ears flickered from where she had been sitting, a little surprised to hear her name being called. After losing Creekpaw, she had become use to being apprentice-less and had assumed her...Prickly personality and the fact that she didn't bother to speak to many of her Clanmates had written her off as 'not mentor material' which she had thought was fair, so to get her own again after all this time...?
Well then, she suppose she would try not to disappoint. She pushed herself to her paws, padding over to touch noses with Larkpaw. "We'll start tomorrow," she meowed briskly but there was a nervousness deep inside - she didn't want to fail to have another apprentice getting to warriorship...
