A storm of moles, or something of the sorts (c)

Sitting beside a burrow that he'd been working on, Molehill cleaned some dirt from his fuzzy fur. The job was far from finished, but he'd been so focused on digging this morning that he'd forgotten to take a break. Now that the tom was finally getting a moment to himself, he listened as his stomach gurgled and remembered how hungry he'd been earlier. Perhaps he would go out and hunt in a little bit, the clan could certainly use the extra food. Of course, he was content munching on grub and other small creatures, but he knew that wasn't usually enough for others.

Hearing approaching pawsteps, Molehill turned to see his former mentor making his way over to him in a cheery manner. Luckily for him, he didn't need to squint to see the speckled tom, seeing as though he'd made his way over to the fuzzy warrior in no time.

Dipping his head respectfully to the recently named deputy, the plump brown tom lifted his head and met the tom's gaze. "S-sounds good," he mewed, trying to mask his impeding sense of worry. While he hadn't necessarily gotten accustomed to their previous home, seeing as though he had been so young, hunting in a strange new place brought him a great deal of concern. Even Sootstorm couldn't possibly of all the dangers that awaited them... but he supposed that he was their deputy for a reason and knew that he'd ought to have faith in his former mentor.

"Ready when you are," he mewed with a sheepish smile as he stood from where'd he'd been sitting.

'It's alright, I suppose," Molehill began softly as he padded beside the speckled tom. "I didn't know our last home very well, but I can tell most of the older clan members, like my father, aren't quite enjoying here as much," the plump tom added, curious if his former mentor felt similarly. He seemed to be adjusting well, but Sootstorm seemed to be good at everything he did so part of him doubted that it'd been hard to adjust for the deputy.

As the continued onward, a dark blob crawling just in front of his paws caught his attention. Stopping in his tracts, the young tom watched as a black beetle carried on about its' day. Scurrying along, it's short legs seemed to be moving as fast as they could and for a moment he almost contemplated letting it go, but with the lack of food back at camp he knew otherwise. Of course, such a catch wouldn't be much prey at all, but perhaps a kit could have it for a snack.

Pouncing forward so that he caught up to the bug before it disappeared into the tall grass, he managed to land on it but the horrible, high-pitched hissing sound it suddenly made spooked the tom. Jumping straight up into the air with his paws extended and eyes wide, his tail swished around frantically before he plopped back down onto the ground. Shifting his gaze nervously at the ground around paws, the bug in which he'd tried to catch was nowhere in sight and the fuzzy warrior couldn't help but let out a sigh on relief. Who knew beetles could be such angry little things! At least now he knew to steer clear of them, as far as hunting went.


Molehill attempted to catch a beetle and was unsuccessful.
