pixel-hourglass-f2u-by-lost-in-ashes-dd0zotaBirdstar

Hacking coughs, wet with mucus, clawed out of Birdstar's chest. The same hoarse wheezes rattled out of almost every cat around her. Their bold journey into the illumined unknown had lead to nothing but disaster: storms to begin their passage--storms that stole her family, who still hadn't been seen again)--and the violent dissolution of camraderie she was foolish to choose, illness. It was only a matter of time before death would join their many misfortunes (Birdstar refused to believe Ploverpaw had died to the wastes of churning weather). Either the mysterious disease that gnawed deep into the matter and minds of her Clanmates would cause enough waste to claim their lives... or Perchstar would overcome her own delirium , and wet blood would leak into their newly dug graves.

Birdstar squeezed her eyes shut tight enough for spots to form behind her eyelids. With the pressure in her head reaching a roar and a wracked breath, she looked to the world again. Her head moved slowly to compensate for her swimming vision as she looked around. Immediately, her eyes sought Perchstar: struggling to support herself beside Poppyshine, struggling more when her deputy drifted away to call announcements and assist their Clanmates. Deep in Birdstar's heart, beneath the guarding hate, she felt a traitorous pang of concern. She hated to see someone she had, until so recently, considered a friend struggle in such a way... but with a sneeze that nearly split her skull and a snort of derision, she turned away. Let this plague weigh heavy on Perchstar's body. She was in no state to lead armies when she couldn't lead herself.

None of them were. Birdstar continued her blurry survey. Acornstem was working her way through ThunderClan, just as Poppyshine had been doing; Mottlestar was sick, too. There had been no confrontation from the calico yet, though one was perhaps long overdue, but her same bitter feelings toward Perchstar churned over the calico. And looking further on was WindClan, lacking both leader and medicine cat now, of all perilous times... only ShadowClan, though struggling in their own right, seemed spared from the threat of destruction roiling under every shift on the breeze.

Birdstar spat through another cough and turned forward, facing the dizzying heights of the mountains continuing into the horizon and the sparkling lake beneath them. Wolfblossom stepped closer, putting voice to the actions of now Birdstar needed to take. "I know," she murmured, sparing a glance back towards the hunch of SkyClan. Shivering, coughing, staggering against each other. They needed to rest, create space to tend to their ill... but not here.

"SkyClan!" Birdstar called out, fighting to suppress the wince that wanted to show over how raw her throat was. "We're going to continue moving closer to the lake, and take shelter in the trees there. All who are healthy: support those that aren't. No one is to be left behind. Assist Smokepetal as well. And stay close." Her last few words sputtered. Swallowing down the cough that brewed in her throat was tormentously difficult and it only aggravated the searing. "Those of you not otherwise occupied will collect moss and water as we pass by the lake. Necessary patrols for hunting and continuing to search for Ploverpaw will be arranged when we stop." She hated to make them continue like this, but she refused to let her paws rest so close to cats who would kill them for a moment longer. With a grimace, Birdstar looked across all of SkyClan, head lowering in a somber nod before she turned to press the march onward without a word to the other leaders.

Though she moved forward, Birdstar didn't go far before her paws came to a staggered halt again. Creamsky lay sprawled across a tone, coughing blood onto his paws. Birdstar's chest twisted. She did not want to press her nose to his head and risk worsening either of their symptoms by sharing breath, but she jaw quivered with the want to extend the effort. Though a gross number of them were ill, with many nearly debilitated by it, it was hard not to think some of the gravity to Creamsky's own symptoms was aggravated by his tireless devotion to the trust position he'd been given. Stifling a bitter cough of her own, Birdstar bent down to press the flat of her head to his shoulder instead, gingerly urging him. "Thank you, Creamsky," she said softly. "I'm proud of you. Walk with me. We'll make sure Smokepetal can look after you once we reach the woods."

Birdstar has ordered SkyClan to regroup and continue moving, and stopped to collect Creamsky on the way. [Moderately sick]

f2u-risen-by-rilvin-dciueshRookflight

Since the fierce storm descended on them, something cold and scratching had settled into Rookflight's chest. It was not just his own, though: the disease spared few as it took root amongst the Clans. He had, though somewhat distantly, been aware of his Clanmates' decline before he took notice of his own: Cindersky, Perchstar, Willowwisp. Larkspring and Sunpool stayed healthy, at least... that was some relief. But only a few short days before reaching the lake, Rookflight's body revolted, waging bloody war against only itself. He could not see clear enough to walk in a straight line, whether his vision was blurring or it had gone worryingly dark; even if he could see, his legs trembled with the effort of supporting even his own light weight. Rookflight's lungs were in agony, flaming with every breath he hoped to take. Sweat built on his skin, bunching in the dampening over-layers of his short fur, but Rookflight felt colder; colder even than the leaf-bare air should have made him.

Every step forward was a test to see how far survival instinct could carry them. More than almost anything, Rookflight wished to just collapse into the springy grass, stain it red with the blood that kept coming out when they coughed; lay there until the fitful hours of relief sleep would bring found them. But an acute awareness, not of their own mind, but of the hard-wiring of their nerves, had possessed Rookflight: they were certain that if they fell asleep, they would die. It was only instinct and the rotating weights of Larkspring and Cindersky at their side that kept them aloft.

The motion around them was changing. Not stopping, but shifting--rather than coursing forward, as they had been seemingly endlessly, the mass of Clanmates was now circling within itself. They wobbled dangerously as they came to a halt beside Larkspring. Rookflight blinked dazedly, realizing they hadn't been seeing the ground they'd been staring at, and lifted their head with a hiss of effort. Between the swarming bodies, they could see a great bed of reflective blue, obnoxiously warm colors dappling the edges of their vision. Craggy peaks continued far, far on, their spread jaws disappearing into the hazy blue horizon.

It was impossible to tell if the shudder that wracked Rookflight was from cold, fever, terror, or the muted thrill of seeing the world lively for the first time in moons. Either way, Rookflight's body sank, legs threatening to bow, and the trembling shook loose a cough that spat blood onto the ground between their paws. His claws flexed, embedding deep in the soft earth to fasten him in place, and Rookflight shut his eyes tight to combat the dizziness that overwhelmed him.

Lost in his trembling ache, Rookflight was certain he was going to collapse soon--wholly positive his muscles and heart would give under the strain, if he hadn't been pushed forward. He rocked uncertainly but followed the voices and pressure guiding him onward. Oh... Larkspring. Rookflight hadn't even noticed him speaking. It felt like wet moss had been stuffed in their ears, muting every sound. Even Cindersky was walking alongside them, who gave Rookflight a startle they were too tired to show when they realized her presence. They dragged their attention between the cats on either side of them, trying to make sense of the urgent mews, but it all just sounded like noise. Rhythmic but senseless noise, like the gentle lapping of small waves against the riverbank.

Waves... Rookflight blinked. Larkspring had pushed them further away from the amassed Clans, standing closer to the water now. The cold wind blowing off its surface made Rookflight shiver again. They blinked glassily at Larkspring, seeking direction--and he answered, but Rookflight still struggled to comprehend. Whatever he'd said, Larkspring was pushing them and Cindersky both to rest. The thought of lying down made deep dread freeze through their organs, and Rookflight repeatedly insisted with themself to protest or wrestle back, but they couldn't command the energy to. Being still prompted their bones to finally melt within them, and Rookflight found themself suddenly stretched prone where they'd just been standing up. They were now overly aware of how deep and fast their flanks heaved in an effort just to breathe. An impossible weight held them pinned, keeping them from even lifting their head to call after Larkspring or look for Cindersky nearby.

Rookflight is laid out, accompanied by Larkspring and Cindersky. [Severely sick]

dc467ws-4f57e5ee-a206-4d0a-8261-e3cb0496a605Rowansong

Rowansong's stomach turned as the endless drumbeat of pawsteps slowed to a halt. Suffering the weather had been bad enough, but two things had happened between the storm and now: something had, rather swiftly and unsubtly, killed their alliance with SkyClan, and plague was trying to kill them. There'd been a rippling tension under Perchstar's coat he'd never seen before. Day by day, the air around them grew thicker with both miasma and hostility. Rowansong cast his eyes across the expansive lake, thinking foggily of Felix's stories about the sea, but Poppyshine's hesitant warning to avoid contact with SkyClan made it impossible to marvel at the sight. The anxiety left by unspoken tensions filled any space in his mind not taken up by fever-fog.

However he felt, Rowansong figured he was one of the few lucky enough to not be brought completely to their paws by their disease. It had caught him, sure--his pelt burned and he could not keep from sneezing and he frequently stumbled as the world fell out of balance beneath his paws... but he was standing, and he was largely coherent. Rowansong ducked his head to cough into his ruff, expeling his gnawing nerves alongside half his air, before forcing himself to focus on where he drifted among his Clanmates. There were many of them he wanted to tend to, nearly all of his loved ones stricken in some way, but it was Stormdance his paws led him staggering to first. There was some relief just in seeing the senior warrior, but it was flattened by the state of his health.

"Hello," Rowansong said quietly, mew roughed by his recent side, as he moved to approach Stormdance's side. He pressed his shoulder against his former mentor's, firm but gentle support. "Let's stay together, shall we? I needn't watch you stumble about and invite more grievous ails." He spoke with that flippant little huff natural to him, but no matching laughing accompanied his quip, and Rowansong's dulled eyes had grown full with concern.

Rowansong is checking on Stormdance. [Moderately sick]

Silverpaw

Silverhawk kept looking sidelong at Pineblossom while the pack of them shuffled forward. He couldn't stand seeing her sick. He'd been terrified from the moment she showed even the faintest cough. He didn't care about a single other cat that was sick right now. Pineblossom was sick. Silverhawk hadn't been able to shake the desire to strip his entire pelt off in a fit of nerves. Scratching and gnawing at the thinning fur around his shoulders wasn't enough to put him at ease anymore--nor was it an easily accessible outlet. Here, now, drinking in the crisp air of fresh land while his mother fought to catch a spare breath beside him, with scared kits stumbling ahead of his paws, Silverhawk couldn't afford the spare time to pull himself apart.

"No wandering off, Hedge." Silverhawk said in as gentle a voice as he could manage. When he looked around in search of the medicine cats his sister was determined to find, he saw Heatherberry sprawled across the ground. His ears flattened and he turned quickly back to the kits. Watching Hedge try to will better health into Pineblossom by digging into her fur made him feel a step outside his paws. It was like watching himself paw desperately at a long-still body. Swallowing a breath, he went on, "You aren't old enough to wander off yet. Neither of you are. You all need to stay here, so Pineblossom has someone to look after her." But she did need help. Silverhawk hadn't seen her among the crowd, but he figured Burdockroot was already occupied with something else, too. Looking a little ways away toward Hawkpaw, he bluntly instructed, "Keep an eye on them. I'm going to get moss and water." Without waiting, he turned and slipped away from the crowd to do just that. As genuine as the effort to help was, it was an equally good excuse to walk away from staring at Pineblossom curled shakily on the ground and try to calm his hitching breath.

Tigerdance nodded in response to Leopardstar's words. It made sense. He was surprised the she-cat even answered him considering past actions between their clans but he was thankful for the information none the less. He dipped his head towards the Shadowclan leader in respect before turning back to his own clan, noting that Smallstar had not caught up just yet, so that meant he was in charge for right now. Though he had already given his orders, so if his clan needed anything else he would be sitting in his current spot, resting, considering he was very dizzy right now.

Tigerdance is Moderately Sick

He couldn't believe after all of that traveling, he comes down with something now. Just a cough and some sneezing but nothing else, but he couldn't help but be slightly irritated with himself that he managed to get sick. How was he supposed to look for Pigeonpaw now? He knew Dovepaw was beating himself up about the whole thing, and Owlcall couldn't exactly blame him. He felt the same.. How could another one of his siblings slip out from under his nose? The brown tom prayed for his sister's safety, prayed she would return to Riverclan. Prayed that she was just right behind them, but part of him knew it was hopeless. Still he had to be strong for his siblings, no matter how sick he was.

"Ravenpaw, follow Poppyshine's instructions but stick close to a warrior." The older tom ordered his brother, knowing the black tom wasn't sick unlike many of his clanmates, but he wasn't really willing to risk his brother's safety. "Swanpaw stick close to Ravenpaw please!" He called out to his sister who was wandering aimlessly whining to herself.

Blue eyes turned to his other brother.. Dovepaw. He was taking everything the hardest, and he knew why. He couldn't fault him for it either, for he felt the same way. Carefully the tom approached the apprentice, bumping against the younger slightly, trying to provide him comfort for this trying time.

Owlcall is Mildly sick.

Ravenpaw let out a huff after Owlcall ordered him to follow Poppyshine's instructions. He was already going to do that anyway, he didn't need it reinforced, but still he listened, knowing that their family was suffering considering Pidge's disappearance. "Come on' Swan!" He called to his sister before following other warriors to fetch water.

Ravenpaw is healthy.

As soon as it was clear that Shadowclan had arrived to where they were going, the spotted tom felt his legs give out from under him. He didn't think he was going to get so sick, but he was just glad that his mind was clear for the moment. Echomist felt something well up in his chest, followed by bile entering his mouth which he was quick to clear out. The tom pushed himself to lay on his side away from the sick he just created, as his body ached with pain. He hated this. He wanted this suffering to end.

Echomist is severely sick.

Thornstalker didn't really know where she was. Everything was blurry, she could feel herself stumble, but everything in front of her looked like home but she knew it wasn't home. Home was left behind. She wasn't home was she? "Is this home?" She muttered out hoarsely, speaking to anyone near by. Was she still really alive?

Thornstalker is severely sick.

Duckpaw carefully moved their paws from where they were covering their eyes, turning to look at where Poppyshine was standing over them. "I-" they started, and quickly regretted it as their throat suddenly started to burn as they swallowed awkwardly - the horrid feeling as nausea swept over them and bile started to rise in their throat. They curled in on themselves in an effort to fight it - their body shaking as they fought it down, even if it felt bitter in their mouth and throat until they found the strength to squeak out a response.

"I don't... I can't, no," they murmured, shaking their head as a sob tore through them. "I don't know what is - why I can't... I tried to stand, my legs didn't let me. A-And everything spun even before I fell and I am scared and..." They covered their face with their paws, choking down the sob that only caused the bile in their throat to sting even harder. "I-I want to go home!"

------------------------------------------------

Creamsky wasn't sure how long he was just staring at the blood on his paws - he knew it wasn't good yet he didn't feel...Concerned? That was also bad, he thought, but the way his head was swimming made it harder to feel any which way about it. His ears twitched at the sound of Birdstar's voice - at first distance, then closer as she mentioned his name. He turned to look at her, giving a mute nod as he started to push his way to his feet.

His legs quaked with the effort, but he didn't let it stop him as he jumped down from the rock he was on - only to stumble as the ground threatened to rip itself out from beneath his paws. He barely caught himself, but not without stumbling a few steps. His claws dug into the ground, his legs ridged as he waited for everything to stop moving. A few blinks later, he lifted his head to look at Birdstar. "I'm fine," he murmurer, slowly taking steps forward to follow after her. "Do you think...Blackbear is here?" he whispered - not even sure why his mind was turning to the thought of his mother.

wolfkit

kit | shadowclan

A spike of irritation rippled through Wolfkits pelt. He was small and quick and so was Hedgekit! They could go get one of the medicine cats, or water. They weren't stupid. But getting angry wouldn't help, and as much as he wanted to hiss and spit at Silverhawk to let them do it, he didn't.

"Maybe that story about a cat running through a snowstorm to get the special herb to heal their clan?" He suggested, a tense edge to his voice but he kept his gaze on his sister soft. "That's a good story. Will that help you feel better, Mama?"

If this sicky was a person, he'd rip it apart. He couldn't, and that enraged him.

cindersky

t2 warrior | riverclan

Cindersky turned to argue, to plead with Larkspring to let her help too, but the vertigo that gripped her when he moved them to that sweet sunny patch made it die in her throat. The Sun was nice on her pelt, but it did little to calm her shivers or how cold her shoulders felt. It made her paws and nose itch, they were too warm, and as much as the sunlight hurt her eyes she would rather burn alive than be in the cold again.

"Come back soon," She mumbled after them, turning her head to cough as quietly as she could. Her head whipped around at the thump of Rookflights inevitable collapse, and a sort of fear gripped her that she never wanted to feel again. Through her unsteadyness she closed the distance and slipped onto the ground beside them.

She cursed herself for not noticing how bad they had gotten, but relaxed when she saw their chest continue to rise and fall. She leaned over, licking their neck and chest as gently as she could without falling into them (moving so close to the ground seemed not to agree with her), and did her best to clean their face free of any sickness-induced gunk. She could feel some around her own eyes and it felt horrendous. They wouldn't have to worry about it anymore.

"I'm still here," She mumbled, huddling up to them for extra warmth. They might be able sweat the sickness out, with any luck. She swallowed against her itchy throat, and found that laying down abated the nausea for a time. "Larkspring will be back soon. I'm not going anywhere." She said, both to comfort them, and herself.

Graywind's paws were shaking as she stumbled alongside her siblings, head and tail drooping in exhaustion. All she wanted to do was curl up in her nest and sleep, but there was no nest here. All her focus had narrowed down to putting one paw in front of the other, to following the familiar pelts of her clanmates. She'd coughed so much her throat was raw, and her head pounded in time with each stumbling step she took. She had thought it was just a simple cold at first, nothing to be worried about... And now she was pretty sure her initial assessment was very, very wrong. She hadn't wanted to bother Smokepetal with it at first That had, perhaps, not been a wise decision. She was aware of her aunt's voice floating somewhere in front of her, but Graywind was too tired to focus on whatever words were being said.

---

Swanpaw sneezed, a sniffle escaping her. "This is foxdung!" She whined, padding beside her siblings. Traveling was bad enough, the weather was worse, but now she was sick? "Travel, our leaders said, what was the point? We're still starving and now we're sick." She grumbled, tail lashing behind her in frustration as she fought back another sneeze. The sneeze wouldn't be denied though, and Swanpaw thought that at this rate, if she tried to hunt, she was likely to just scare off any prey she got close to. How on earth was she supposed to help her siblings like this?

"Of course, Owlcall." She mewed in response to her brother's voice, only to growl at Ravenpaw in annoyance. "Heard him, furball, you don't need to repeat everything he says." She scoffed, though she was quick to follow her sibling. "...If he stopped ordering us around so much he might be able to rest up a little. He needs it." For all her complaining, she was worried for her siblings. They didn't seem to be having too much difficulty, and Ravenpaw seemed like the sickness hadn't touched him. But Swanpaw had seen Perchstar struggling from a distance... And wasn't going to admit how much that scared her.

Lightningbreeze was, in general, an easygoing cat with a breezy attitude; but one thing she didn't tend to do was take it slow. Her paws moving slower than her mind was starting to drive her crazy, the world spinning slowly with every step forward she tried to take. A blur that revealed itself by voice to be Sorrelpaw, her apprentice, was at her side before long and offering help.

In this state she wasn't going to be much of a mentor, at least for the moment. She was proud, but not proud enough to turn down the help when she needed it. "I can't run," she muttered, leaning on Sorrelpaw and feeling grateful that she herself was quite light. "Somethin' about that just feels wrong. Well, everything about that feels wrong, but... I can't even get my thoughts in order, Sorrelpaw. Is the world not spinnin' for you?"

we're only at the beginning of this one-way dream —— info.

Mottlestar is Severely Ill.

Perhaps staying away from most cats had been of some benefit. She saw as her clanmates had deteriorated much as their river had, and that had only pushed the pale feline to stay away further. The crowd overwhelmed her to say the least, and with the way she could feel the pressure in her nose, it only made it that much more exhausting. Tail flicking in overstimulated agitation, the molly half-suppressed a cough before looking towards her leadership as to where to go.
Egretswoop is Mildly Ill.

Strong. She would be strong. Strength had been imbued into her since birth, and as she saw her mother's state, it panged something in her chest. Something deep and painful. Even as they saw the beauty around them, and she found her paws itching to delve right towards the water, she wanted nothing more than to be by her mother's side. That changed as she saw her sister, Willowwisp, going down too. Ears pinning back, the two-toned molly quickly made her way over to her sister, using whatever strength she had left from the journey to get her to be at least somewhat more comfortable. "We made it, Willow, we will get through this too."
Mistwalker is not ill.

A familiar hollowed-ness rumbled in her chest. That deep feeling she couldn't quite shake. Her eyes had felt half-sealed shut for... stars knew how long, and each breath was painful, as if she'd once more sunk herself into the river. Everything had blurred away, even as they came into the clearing. All she could see was fourtrees, and in the distance, a flower-flecked onyx pelt, darting behind one of the trees. It forced Murkyriver's head upright, only for the force to make it spin so harshly that she toppled over. Coughs that seared her entire body told her that her actions had been foolish, but she did not care. Not as she had to get to him. Get to him before-

No, her body refused to move. She had refused to rest, and her body was forcing her to do so.
Murkyriver is Severely Ill.

As much as she had fought to hide the symptoms, it was all a farce. One look at Mintglade displayed in full view just how ill she was. Patches of her fur had matted, a crusted gunk had built up around her face, and every-other step she was either sneezing or coughing. Her limbs ached with the fury of a thousand battles, and all she wanted to do was sleep. Not even a walk sounded good. She could hardly make out what it was that Bubblepaw had said, but it was with such a joyful tone that she strained to listen. Weary smile on her maw, it was in minutes-long steps that she finally made it to the waters edge. "Pretty... Bubble."
Mintglade is Severely Ill.

All Sageroot could do was nod as Echosong spoke, hoping he’d get the message. Yes, she needed moss for her ears. She just hoped he’d understand her gratitude.

One paw and then the other. Although it was difficult, Lavenderpaw's determination was strong. Poppyshine carried him when he was too weak and his consciousness drifted. Each step he took, the deputy could help another cat. Sickness now clouded around all the cats. Was it his fault? Lavenderpaw was sick since the five Clans joined together for the journey. The imagined guilt tightened his chest painfully and he winced. His breath rattled wetly, and he could not cough or sneeze it away. The sickness heavy on Lavenderpaw's chest, every breath felt more and more like drowning. He searched out the cooling breeze, then flinched away shivering. Just keeping on going, Lavenderpaw dragged his back legs, towards where Poppyshine directed.

Poppyshine

Duckpaw’s terrified whimpering broke Poppyshine’s heart. She knelt down beside them and licked reassuringly at their fur where it was mussed up from sickness and travel. “It’s alright, Duckpaw. You are probably just tired from so much walking. I’ll carry you over to the other clanmates and Sandyshell will check you over, okay? You don’t have to be afraid.”

She shifted her nose under Duckpaw’s belly and carefully wriggled to get them up onto her back. Poppyshine carefully lifted them up and made sure they were secure before he headed over to where she saw sick cats gathering. She gave grateful purrs to the healthy cats who were guiding the sick ones to one spot. She laid Duckpaw down at Murkyriver’s side and pushed them together so they could keep one another warm. To Murkyriver she murmured, “Rest,” and then moved on to check on the other cats.

Poppyshine brought Duckpaw to Murkyriver and the other sick cats. She’s doing rounds to check on other cats and is open if she is needed for anything. [Not sick.]

Pineblossom

Pineblossom shook her head tiredly and moved a paw to push her kits close to her again. “No, no, dears…I’ll be alright. I’m just tired. Listen to Silverhawk." She closed her eyes to rest them. “You all must be tired after that travel too…Let’s all rest together. I’ll be okay.” Her eyes opened again, gold just barely visible, and she smiled. “Those stories sound nice, darlings. You can tell me a story if you want to. I’m sure that’ll help me feel better.” That and a nice long nap. She didn’t want to take herbs from the cats who were sicker than her, so she would bother Heatherberry or Burdockroot another time. Right now…she just needed to nap.

Pineblossom is about to take a nap. [Moderately sick.]

Larkspring

It didn’t take too long to find some moss growing on an undisturbed rock not too far from the lake. He tore it off rapidly and then plunged it into the lake. He let it soak for a moment and his eyes scanned back to make sure Cindersky and Rookflight looked alright. He looked back to the moss and picked it back up. Freezing water trickled down from the moss and onto his chest, which made him shiver, but he hurriedly started walking back to his friends. When he arrived, he set the moss down in front of Rookflight and encouraged some of it into his mouth so he could drink. “Take the moisture, Rook,” Larkspring murmured.

He looked to Cindersky and gestured towards it. “You as well…Thank you for cleaning them. I can tidy your fur too, if you want.”

Larkspring is back with Cindersky and Rookflight with some damp moss for them to get drink from. [Not sick.]

Arriving [SITEWIDE] - Page 4 Empty

Dizziness from effort without being able to breathe forced Lavenderpaw to collapse. In his awkward position, his chest felt crushed. He shifted and blurred but beautiful scenery flashed by: the gentle green slopes soft enough to have descended safely on his two paws, the glittering clean expanse of water, the grass and sand of its shore comfortable beneath his body, and the sounds of flowing streams lulled Lavenderpaw towards unconsciousness. For an apprentice just barely named, who rarely left the island, never expected to see the borders, gatherings at four trees or a journey to high stones, it surprised him to be so far beyond. He watched a little bird drift across the big blue sky, distantly aware of it being the last thing he saw.
