Scorchlight

Riverclan | Female | T1 warrior

"Help! Help!" Scorchlight squealed like a dying kit. A puddle like a lake was formed in all the turmoil. It was made in a quite big dip around the unfamiliar land that most cats hopped over. She was a warrior now, why did she feel so weak? Icy cold drops of rain fell, and she wasn't used to swimming like the other RiverClan cats. She would never be used to it. "HELP!" She screamed louder this time, thrashing her paws and tail trying to escape. Waves forced her to bob her head up and down. Cracks of thunder slammed into the ground. She flashed her eyes back to the cats, maybe they couldn't hear her... Her head fell into the waves. She could barely breathe but was still alive. "Somebody... help..."she meowed underwater, her ears feeling the bubbles pop around her. It was murky, disgusting water like the ones in RiverClan.

Water. It was always water. Water had betrayed Lighttail once more. As the storm enveloped her, her body went numb. Her lungs closed up, the feeling of drowning returning from her memories, and as lightning streaked the sky she felt a burning pain begin between her shoulders and touch every nerve in her body. She was drowning and burning all at once.

Sunflare saw it all, and he realized what he had to do, a scathingly brilliant idea. He needed favor with Sablestrike, who seemed to hate Lighttail lately, and with Leopardstar, who loved her. And so the young warrior charged at his cousin, knocking her off her feet and pushing her to safety with the Clan. He’d saved her, but never had the she-cat looked more pathetic.

Nectarflower

Gender: Female
Rank: T4 Warrior

Nectarflower thought that she was prepared for the poor weather, but she had completely misjudged the sheer strength of the storm as it broke overhead, dousing every cat in icy water. Even on the moor, she had never experienced a storm quite like this one. With no trees or much undergrowth for shelter, one might think that Windclan would be accustomed to such weather, however, it never stormed this badly at home. Nectarflower whirled around the moment she realized that it wouldn't just be a passing shower and scanned the crowd for her kits.

It wasn't until a faint whimper and the familiar sight of Sootstorm's pelt that Nectarflower finally spotted Eveningpaw curled in on herself, quaking like grass in the wind. Shoving her way through the throng, Nectarflower reached her daughter shortly after Sootstorm, her heart pounding. "Eveningpaw!" She collapsed beside the thin apprentice and wrapped her body around Eveningpaw's smaller one. "There there, it's okay love, I'm here now." She purred comfortingly.

Glancing up, she made eye contact with Sootstorm and smiled appreciatively. He always looked out for her and her family. Speaking of...where was Finchspeckle? Ears flattened nervously, Nectarflower ran her tongue over the top of Eveningpaw's head. "Have either of you seen Finchspeckle anywhere? I haven't been able to find her since the rain started..." Mind racing with endless possibilities, Nectarflower looked out into the storm, her chest tight.

Nectarflower has sheltered with Sootstorm and Eveningpaw.

Bearpaw

Gender: Male
Rank: Apprentice

Bearpaw plodded alongside unfamiliar pelts, his paws heavy and tail dragging in the muddy ground. He was completely soaked and, at this point, wouldn't be surprised if someone told him that he was ice now. An ice shaped cat with nothing but a soggy, dirty coat draped over it. He was chilled to the bone - frozen really - and was aching for some reprieve from the sudden storm that had descended upon them. Mist kicked up, blocking out his view even more until he could barely see the cats nearest to him.

The rain fell in sheets, loud, unrelenting, and painful. If someone called out to him...would he even know? If he got separated and lost his way, would anymore notice before it was too late? Even more frightening though, was the thought of any of his sisters going missing in the midst of this torrential downpour. It had been so sudden that he hadn't had time to look for his family before it was too late. Each second felt like an eternity and before long, Bearpaw couldn't help but panic somewhat.

Where were his sisters? His clanmates? Were they okay?

His squinted against the icy rain but saw nothing. Not a single pelt he recognized nor a solitary comforting voice in the din. Spinning a few times, Bearpaw searched and searched for someone he knew - primarily his kin - but again, nothing. Shivering, the young tom turned again, this time to rejoin the group, and found himself completely alone. Yowls and shrieks rose on the roaring wind, but before he could pinpoint their location, they were snatched away by the storm.

Snarling with annoyance, Bearpaw lifted his head, bearing the brunt of the storm, and called out almost desperately, "Bubblepaw! Sorrelpaw! Ploverpaw!" He paused, ears perked for a response, then continued, his shivering and fear growing. "Sunfire!? Wolfblossom!? Is anyone out there!?"

Bearpaw is looking for his family!

Silentpaw

Gender: Female
Rank: Apprentice

Silentpaw didn't know what to do. She had been lost and confused the moment her clan stepped paw out of their territory and set out on this odd journey with the other clans. It was much like those full-moon gatherings except so, so, so much worse. there were countless cats pressed against her and walking beside her at all times and their scents mingled together with the unfamiliar smell of the land they were passing through was very nearly enough to send Silentpaw's senses into overdrive.

Then, just as she thought that things couldn't get worse, the distant rumble of a storm caught her attention. She could feel it in the air and the ground - the distinct vibrations of a very bad storm. Silentpaw instantly stiffened, her paws faltering, and she stopped to peer up at the quickly darkening sky. Great. Just great. This was exactly was she needed right about now - a storm! The white apprentice shuddered as the clouds began to blot out the sun, peering over the backs of other cats to look for more familiar faces amidst the sea of pelts and strangers.

Before she could make her way to a large group of her clanmates, however, the rain descended like the frozen claws of a ferocious beast, driving into her skin and locking up her muscles. Silentpaw, who had never had a particularly thick coat, was instantly drenched and quite literally freezing. It was near impossible to see anything now, her vision so blurred by rain, but Silentpaw pushed onward regardless.

Perhaps she should have been paying more attention, though, or she would have noticed the loose, rocky soil a few pawsteps ahead. Maybe she shouldn't have been walking so close to the edge of a steep hill? However, with the thick sheets of rain, there was nobody to blame for what happened next. One moment, Silentpaw was trudging along behind a small group of cats seeking shelter. The next, she was gone, lost and at the mercy of the raging storm.

Silentpaw is lost.
You can look, but you won't find her.

At first it had only been a few drops, but all of a sudden Goldenpaw’s thick fluffy pelt was utterly drenched. With a startled yelp, she found herself being carried along with the crowd, searching for any sign of a familiar face. A glimpse of her mentor, and Goldenpaw changed direction, shouldering her way through the crowd as it dispersed and unashamedly ending up next to her mentor and… some other WindClanners? Names were hard. At least she remembered at the last second that shaking her pelt out like a dog would probably not be appreciated in such close quarters.

“Who’re we lookin’ for?” she asked, trying to make out the form of her long-legged brother through the rain. Hey, Finchspeckle! That was the cool she-cat who had sparred with her, right? “Finchspeckle’s awesome, I betcha she’s out there saving somebody or somethin’.”

It was kinda awkward, being right next to an apprentice who seemed… scared of the rain? Ptcha. Goldenpaw wasn’t scared of anything, especially not a little water, but she wasn’t gonna get onto the other apprentice about it. That wouldn’t be nice.

When it rained it poured.

Frostpaw froze at the first crack of thunder, fur puffing, and that one moment was apparently all that was necessary for her to immediately lose sight of her mentor. The rain came down, and cats started running, and it was all she could do to keep up, small skinny frame trembling even as she ran. Pelts blurred together into an unfamiliar mass of speeding ccolours, cats ducking out of the rain into shelter she could barely make out from the downpour. Just the act of opening her maw to call out immediately filled her mouth with freezing water; her pelt was far from thick, and already she was shivering. Where was Swiftheart? Heatherberry? Anyone?

Finally, a somewhat familiar pelt caught her gaze, and Frostpaw stumbled over to where Pineblossom and a few other Clanmates had gathered, her paws slipping on the wet terrain. Soaked through and shivering, the small apprentice found a place to sit in the scant shelter provided by the rock, giving the family as much distance as she could without getting pummelled by the rain. Where was Swiftheart? Heart stewing with silent anxiety, she gazed out at the rain, ears pricked to try and hear something, anything, over the roar of the storm.

Everyone was running; with a hiss, Paledove forced herself to trot, carried along by the force of so many cats running for their lives. The rain soaked her thick coat through, the thunder made her ears ring… if she got greencough now, what would it do to her unborn kits? Cursing StarClan under her breath, the pregnant queen stumbled to shelter in the shadow of an old tree stump, curling up as tight as she could out of the rain. Right now, for all she cared, SkyClan could continue on. What was this, every cat for themselves the moment a little rain happened? If her babies were hurt from this… the pale-furred SkyClanner pressed herself against the worn bark, shivering.

Goldenpaw is with Nectarflower, Sootstorm, and Eveningpaw.
Frostpaw is with Pineblossom and co.
Paledove has found shelter.

Tell that vole in your stomach I said hi since your brain seems to be right beside it

The sky rained down on the queen, ice-cold water running down the she-cat's pale fur like streams of water. She remained silent, flank rising at a labored pace as she curled around the three cold bodies tucked against her, sobbing all the while. There was no shelter, no warm moss, just mud and water and frost that drowned the pitiful cries of her loves. Her paws were numb, and she could no longer lift her head. It was as if the frost had entered her lungs, spreading through her body until her once-warm body remained cold and unmoving. Each breath was like dragging ice through her throat, each harder than the last. Her ears rang with white noise, and her tears clung to her lashes like snowflakes. With a thin wail, Stormflower uttered one last prayer to the stars she could no longer see, and then her head hit the ground.

_________

Cinderkit was freezing. She was too young to open her eyes, too used to the cold to know any different. The stillness of her family hardly mattered, as she laid curled up between ice-cold statues, thin tail curling uselessly around her legs as she twitched. There was shuffling around her, sounds of paws hitting mud, but there was too much and too little for her to focus.

Happiness comes the way the wind blows

Sootstorm would be lying if he said he wasn't relieved when Nectarflower found them. He stayed where he was, helping his friend to warm up her daughter. He paused his grooming of Eveningpaw to look up at Goldenpaw. "Why don't you help find Finchspeckle and Tallshadow?" He suggested, trying to keep the plea out of his voice as he looked around. Where was his apprentice? Or his son? His daughter? Fear spread through his chest like frost, leaving the tom shaking as he thought of the worst possible outcomes. There were a few cats lying down, but he couldn't tell whether they were from WindClan, or whether they were still... whether they had...

Pineblossom

Pineblossom looked up when some additional shelter shielded extra rain from her. She gave Tawnyshadow a grateful smile and then continued grooming her kits. She saw one of the apprentices join their little hideaway as well. She hoped no one would get sick…

“StarClan does not control all weather,” she mewed quietly to Wolfkit as she dried off her kin. “Sometimes luck is simply not on the clans’ side.”

Larkspring

He heard Cindersky’s panicked call in return. Larkspring squinted through the downpour to try and determine where it had come from. He hesitated before stepping back out from his shelter. He hissed as the rain, which had become a little more solid, pelted against his back. Larkspring shook out his body and moved out further. “Here!” he yelled. He searched for that speckled white pelt and and spotted it amidst the scramble of other cats. Larkspring went to her side and pushed against her so she knew that he was there. His head whipped around again. “Rookflight! We’re over here!”

Larkspring is with Cindersky and calling for Rookflight.

Willowwisp

Willowwisp let out a relieved sigh when one of her clanmates appeared at her side. She pressed against her in turn but then her attention was caught by someone calling out for RiverClan. She spotted the black pelt near a curled up form and her eyes widened with alarm when she realized that it was Duckpaw. She hurriedly said, “Kitespring, help me get Duckpaw to shelter.”

She raced out with her clanmate at her side and approached Rookfire and Duckpaw. “Thank you for the help,” she said to him. She nuzzled down against Duckpaw. “This is a bad time to fall asleep…” Willowwisp turned to ask Kitespring to help her again when she heard a sudden yowl that made her flinch. She recognized the voice, though—Scorchlight, one of their newest warriors. Willowwisp looked over her shoulder and spotted Scorchlight getting caught in a rapid water pool that had formed from the sudden downpour. *Foxdung.*

“Kitespring, and—you,” she looked back to Rookfire, “please get Duckpaw to safety.”

Willowwisp took off towards the pool of water and skidded to a stop at its edge. “Scorchlight!” she called, but she didn’t hear a response; she couldn’t tell if Scorchlight had passed out or if the thundering of the rain was too loud. She took a deep breath and carefully stepped into the swirling water. A sharp shiver ran up her spine, making her fur poof. It was freezing, but she would not abandon one of her clanmates.

She carefully made her way through the water and to Scorchlight’s body. The water felt unnaturally deep already and she wondered if they had passed by a small pond and not realized before the storm rolled in. Willowwisp held her breath as it grew deep enough for her to be dunked under briefly. When she reached Scorchlight, she bit down onto her scruff and pulled with all her might. Her paws dug into the muddy sand below the gunky water and she slowly pulled them back towards the edge of the pool. Willowwisp coughed and sputtered through the freezing water and she could barely feel her legs as they kept moving. Finally, Willowwisp got them onto the edge of the muddy water and she released Scorchlight, coughing and gasping for air.

“Scorchlight? Can you h-hear me?” she stammered, teeth chattering. They had to get under shelter now, but she needed to check if Scorchlight was even still conscious.

Willowwisp has asked Rookfire and Kitespring to get Duckpaw to safety and then pulled Scorchlight out of the pool.

Feral language
Forest language

Cold, wet, hungry. Vinecrawler had thought for certain they'd have better luck out her than the nasty forest, but he was proven time and time again that these forest born cats seemed to have trouble keeping themselves alive. Though he wasn't much better, hanging around the lot of them. Umber eyes cast glares at any cat who dared bump into him. Even the rock he stumbled over received a harsh , spitting hiss--

No, that wasn't a rock. A kit. A kit lay curled up beside... The breathless corpse of a queen. A mumbled prayer slipped through his teeth, eyes softening at the pitiful sight. "We can not stop here, small one. Forgive me." Bending his knees and neck to reach the small, frozen kit with a gentle grasp of teeth, he picked her up to find shelter. Her mother was in the hands of the Moon now, but it seemed this one still had a chance at life.

Finding no suitable shelter, he tucked the kit beneath him to shield her from the growing wind. "Echosong! Fawnshine?" The two were no doubt fussing over someone else, but his bellowing was loud enough to carry over the wind.

Vinecrawler is calling for any available ThunderClan medicine cat

"Sweetpaw--!" Weary eyes had been searching the crowd for the apprentice that failed to stay in one place, much like her mother. Though all panic subsided once she saw her with her grandmother. She would leave her be.

No longer in panic mode, the harsh sting of cold wind and even icier rain finally reached her skin. A subtle, breathy curse escaped the ragged warrior as she took as best of shelter as she could. A shiver ran over her as she watched ThunderClan's squirrely deputy pace anxiously from clanmate to clanmate. There was a sort of... Pride in watching the molly take such good care of their Clan, but she couldn't help but feel anxiety stir in the pit of her belly. "Acornstem! I need some help over here!" Was it wrong to call fox when she was just fine? Yes. Did Firefly care in that moment? No. A wet cough ripped through her chest in response to the energy she used just raising her voice over the rumbling thunder and roaring winds. Stars, she wished it would just end.

Firefly is calling for Acornstem!

"Here!" A muffled shout around a bundle of herbs sounded from behind her mottled sister. It was a relief to have so many offer their help to the ShadowClan medicine cats after deciding it would be best to bring what they had - or whatever they deemed could survive the trip to... Wherever it was they were going. It was just a nice little bonus to have her sister at her side, silent or not. Her eyes did wander to find Frostpaw, relieved to see the young apprentice to be in good company.

Green eyes turned to the bundle that Badgermask was diligently protecting with her body, and then to her own. "Let's see here... I think these webs are done for, and so are a few of the borage leaves. Other than that, I think they'll make the rest of the trip!" For as much enthusiasm and positivity she tried to display, even Heatherberry couldn't stop nasty look in her eyes as the wind suddenly changed directions every so often. "You doing alright, though?"

Heatherberry is talking to Badgermask

Scorchlight

RiverClan | Female | T1 Warrior

Scorchlight's eyes were closed as she spat out water to prevent herself from choking. Her green eyes opened once more. "Th-thank you… I'm okay," she meowed. More droplets of rain poured on her fur rapidly. She was drenched, soaked to the bone. Her fur hung downwards due to all the water. She was getting used to the sounds of wildlife, remembering the cold bubbling sound as she dunked under the water. Embarrassment struck her as her gaze locked with the dampened muddy ground. She just felt like a helpless kittypet thrashing through water like a kit. Maybe she could practice more to get better at it, but she didn't know how. She had waded through all those streams and lakes in her own territory, but this was different. She was inexperienced compared to the other warriors, and she had suddenly been pulled into it. Wouldn't that cause a little shock, making her unable to get out of the trouble? "I'll be better, don't worry," she meowed to Willowwisp, staring at the warrior before gazing back at the edge of the pond. She continued to walk alongside the other cats, still shaken up by what had just happened. She could have died for all she knew.

PostSubject: Re: Sign or Symptom (Sitewide)   Sign or Symptom (Sitewide) - Page 2 EmptyWed Nov 29, 2023 8:57 am

The freezing winds that accompanied the storm sliced through the tom's short pelt sending shivers down his spine. No part of this trip so far had been hospitable to the clans, least of all this storm. What was Starclan planning by sending them this storm so far along their path, didn't they know how exhausted everyone was? Shouts and thunderous booms flooded Sablestrike's ears as he made to exit the storm and follow his clan under the canopy, though he paused as he realized it wasn't just Shadowclan gathering beneath the trees. Soaked and numbed to the core the tom refused to join everyone else for the moment. His gaze traveled along the bodies already gathered, noting Pineblossom and her kits along with Heatherberry, Leopardstar, and- Lighttail.

Sablestrike had just barely caught his former apprentice pushing the molly out of the storm. Naturally she hadn't escaped the freezing rains, but something seemed to be wrong with her. One paw stepped toward her, but what would he even do for her? She wasn't really his clanmate anymore, it would be the same as helping a Skyclanner at this point. Shaking his head the tom shouted to his clan. "Shadowclan, stick together! Try to keep yourselves as warm as possible!" Even under the mild protection of the canopy the freezing temperatures were a problem. He wasn't in love with the idea of being that close to his clanmates but if they wanted to survive this storm it was necessary.

Another scan of the cats that had already gathered told the tom what he already suspected, Swiftheart wasn't with them yet. Turning back toward the surging mass of soaked cats Sablestrike called out for the white molly, a small sense of fear beginning to prick along his back.

Sablestrike has told Shadowclan to huddle together for warmth and is looking for Swiftheart in the storm

__

Stoatclaw had tried to remain as close as possible to Lighttail during their journey, he had tried helping her as much as possible, but he hadn't expected a her reaction to the storm. It had taken him aback and no amount of comforting words seemed to break her out of whatever it was she was experiencing. Just as he was about to begin pushing her toward the safety of the trees however another tom shoved her with more force than what was necessary, at least in his eyes. Running up to where Lighttail had landed Stoatclaw whipped around to growl ferociously at the tom, though the sound was lost.

Turning back to Lighttail the tom began pawing at her frantically, his worried voice attempting to pierce the petrified molly. "Lighttail, hey! I'm here! W-what's wrong, do you need a medicine cat?" Stoatclaw didn't wait for an answer. "Smokepetal! Anyone, help!" Stars it was like the gathering all over again. His mate was unresponsive and he was powerless to do anything about it.

Stoatclaw is by Lighttail's side and is asking for assistance from a medicine cat

It wasn't enough that she had given up on having good meals, it wasn't enough that she had left her "home" for this stupid trip, it wasn't enough that she hadn't complained once the whole time, and it wasn't enough that she was cold. Whatever cosmic force that clearly hated her wanted the apprentice to suffer. Softpaw's hisses rose loud enough to be confused as soft lightning as she trudged through the rain and freezing winds, being jostled by the rushing forms of cats as they all made for her exact destination. She wanted to scream at them all but knew it would be futile. Almost all of them spoke a different language from her that melded into the sounds of rain and thunder, nearly all indistinguishable from each other to her. Still, as she managed to find her way under the canopy Softpaw declared a spot for her and only her. It didn't matter if they couldn't understand her, the hisses she let off anytime someone got too close was a language everyone could understand.

Swiftheart was freezing cold. She shivered as the storm winds sent a chill over everything. She did her very best to keep the two kits she had found so far under shelter using her body to shield them as much as she could. She knew though that much more of this and they would risk bird and lichenkit being frozen.

She trudged onward one paw in front of the other her ears laid back as flurries of Icey snow mix battered her. The frozen rain mix was clinging to her pelt soaking to the bone in a deep cold.

This was miserable, in the far distance she could hear her name being called. She had to squint in the hazzy-ness of the storm to try and see where it was, she had fallen behind a bit.

She tried to pick up the pace but exhaution was setting in as she shivered more.

"Sable?!" she called back looking everywhere for his dark pelt, but it was difficult in the already dark night to see him not helped by the storm

Sunflare’s whole body bristled as he leapt between his cousin and the strange tom. “What business do you have with her, SkyClanner? She is no concern of yours. Go, seek shelter with your own clan!”

Sunflare’s blow had certainly knocked Lighttail back into the present, but the pain still coursed through her body. “SHUT UP!” she suddenly hissed, slamming her paws down over her ears. “Sunflare, please, you’re not helping!”

“Hmph. I won’t break the truce,” Sunflare growled. “Enjoy your stupid careless ways, traitors. The peace won’t last.” And with that, the cinnamon tom turned tail and began weaving through the crowd. Lighttail was definitely having a half-clan affair, and he had to do something.

Fawnshine or Echosong didn't hear the call, but Burdockroot did. Shoving through the rain, her badger pelt and long fur at least somewhat helping the chill. A large, even larger than her, tom huddled over a small mass. "Warm it up! With your tongue! Lick the opposite direction!" Burdockroot called, forcing a tone to show urgency. She wrapped herself around the kit, using her own body warmth to shield it from the cold. The kit's chilled head stuck out, allowing for breathing and licking.

Burdockroot is helping Vinecrawler and the kit.

Feral language
Forest language

He had no idea who this molly was, though he knew for certain it wasn't Echosong or Fawnshine. Normally he would protest over a stranger getting involved with his own affairs, but he knew next to nothing about kits and wasn't about to wrestle her down over it. With a gruff nod, he followed her instructions, roughly licking the kits head in the opposite direction of fur growth. For some reason, he felt anxious about it. Was the kit in that dire of straits?

Vinecrawler is doing as Burdockroot suggested.

But look into the lake, shimmering like smoke.

All that fluffy fur did not a thing for the thick-coated apprentice as rain torrented into her skin. It became trapped underneath, crawling down her sides like icicles. Everything was so unbearably cold that her muscles simply froze up. The stunned Ploverpaw fell to the ground while clanmates ahead of her disappeared into the rain. “Wait!” her chattering jaw tried to call, water pouring off of her chin. Rain continued pinning down her back as water bounced off the ground, misting her vision. “Wolfblossom? Can you hear me?” She couldn’t even hear her own cry. Fear started to grip her. “Bubble?!” Is she afraid too? “Sorrelpaw! Bearpaw!” Are they safe? Are they lost?

... Am I lost? Ploverpaw shut her eyes, her face soaked not only by rainwater but also by tears. She had to find them as quickly as possible. She had to make sure they were okay. Though dragged down by the extra water weight, Ploverpaw rose to her feet and slowly pressed through the storm. She wasn’t sure what direction was which anymore, but there wasn’t anything she could do except try “forward.”

Only a few paces ahead hunger was getting to her. But before her will could give out the ground beneath started to slide. A scratching sound of tumbling rocks was muffled under the downpour. The apprentice could only see a flash of another white (albeit muddy) pelt as her body became weightless. Then there was nothing.

Tallshadow was immediately drenched as the sky opened up. With his large ears flattened back in annoyance, the golden tom blinked water out of his eyes. It was nearly impossible to see or hear with the sheets of freezing rain slamming into the earth. The drops were fat and sharp as the water leached through his thin fur. Fighting to stifle the chattering of his teeth, the tabby slipped through the crowd of water-logged cats. He nearly tripped over Nectarflower and Eveningpaw curled up together on the ground, but at least he had eyes on almost everyone he felt responsible for. He brushed the tip of his tail over Sootstorm’s back as he pressed his wet pelt up against Goldenpaw. She was equally drenched and it didn’t bring much warmth to either of them, but at least he blocked her from the wind.  “I’m here. You should find shelter first and ask around if anyone has seen Finchspeckle, i’m sure she was smart enough to find somewhere dry.” He didn’t add that she was probably vain enough to be worried about her fur and got out of the rain as soon as possible.

He turned to Sootstorm, feeling a throb of grief at the fear on his father’s face. The constant dulled terror that everything he loved would be ripped out from under his paws was a fear they shared.  “I’m going to make sure Berrypaw got out of this mess, I’ll look out for Molepaw too, they’re probably together. I’ll find you again later.” He reached down and pressed his nose into Sootstorm’s scruff. A quiet promise he’d be careful. It was almost painful to tear himself away from Goldenpaw, the wind ripped through his flattened pelt like claws. He nudged her roughly towards where the other cats had fled to find shelter.  “Go on and make sure everyone finds some shelter, I’ll be back with the younger apprentices.” He gave her a quick lick between the ears, hoping she’d listen for once. “Put all that fur to work and help our clanmates warm up.” He didn’t have much faith in her ability to follow instructions, but he hoped the pleading look in his eyes helped. He couldn’t lose another sister. With a last glance, the tall tom gathered his freezing limbs and flattened his ears against the rain. With his pelt slicked back and heavy from the rain, the sharp jut of his hip bones and every protruding knob of his spine were visible, making him look smaller against the backdrop of the raging storm, but he had an apprentice to look after now, and hopefully his confidence in Goldenpaw’s ability to not get herself killed was not misplaced. He vanished into the thick haze of rain, calling out for Berrypaw and Molepaw, hoping to be heard over the roar of the storm.
