Feeding the Clan [OPEN hunting]

The day was shaping up to be a warm one as Graywind headed toward the creek with her patrol. Not a cloud in sight, but Graywind was glad. No clouds meant no rain, and she had grown thoroughly sick of rain over newleaf. The heat was more bearable... Kind of. But the creek's water was cool and refreshing, the perfect spot for a drink... Or to find prey.

A scent caught her attention, and Graywind's tail twitched, signalling to her patrol that she'd spotted prey. Turning, the warrior was quick to follow it, spotting the fuzzy creature up ahead. It was a bit large for a rabbit, she realized, and rabbits were already a tough catch, but it was always worth the effort. Dropping into a crouch, she crept forward... Graywind leapt forward, but a hair too late. The hare darted away with a speed that the warrior knew she had no hope of matching, and after giving chase for a moment, Graywind slowed and turned back toward her patrol sheepishly. She'd tried, at least.

Lionstripe had been watching Graywind stalk the hare and hoped with all of his might that she'd catch it. When she missed, he bolted after it, fiercely determined to bring it home. The tom's powerful hindquarters and shoulders flexed and rippled with every movement. Lionstripe had filled out nicely the closer he got to being a mature adult. The ground he slapped with his paws echoed against the tree trunks as he bolted by them.

He leaped a true Skyclanner's leap in an attempt to bring the hare to the ground.

Lionstripe attempted to catch the same hare! He was UNSUCCESSFUL! -3SP

Alas, the young tom had no better luck than Graywind. His claws caught only empty air as the hare darted away. He spat, clearly annoyed with himself and his lack of performance. "Well foxdung..." He growled as he stomped back. His eyes landed on Graywind and he gave her a shrug, trying to hide his wounded pride. Maybe he'd get it the next time Graywind was watching...

Falconmoon had been in the trees. He bolted across branches like a ninja squirrel in an attempt to cut the hare off. Maybe he could get it. Graywind and Lionstripe had done well, but their technique just wasn't there. If he had better luck... oh boy would he be smug...

He did a series of calculated leaps from branches closer to the ground... closer to where he assumed the hare would appear. His claws outstretched and hoped his timing was just right...

Falconmoon is attempting to catch the hare now. He was UNSUCCESSFUL -3SP

Nope. Not even close. The hare had gone a completely different direction and Falconmoon landed on the forest floor with nothing to show for it. He huffed. Fine. The hare had earned its right to live another day. The white tom was back up into the trees as quick as any squirrel, eager to hunt again.

Some hunters we are... Graywind thought ruefully as neither Lionstripe nor Falconmoon were able to catch the hare either. Flashing the pair a rueful grin, the pale she-cat decided to turn her gaze to something that should be an easier catch. A bird sat on a branch above, and she was quick to leap into the trees, heading toward it.

This time she had no trouble catching the bird, and turned back toward her patrol mates with a grin.

Stormwatcher watched his clanmates all try and get a hare.  He cheered them on from a distance... but one by one they all missed the thing.  He sighed watching it bound away from them... huh? it was going toward him?  He blinked with a sigh.  "oh come on... why did you all have to miss" he muttered under his breath as he gathered his legs under him and sprung out after it trying to also chase it down!


He missed too and the rabbit bounded off again getting away. Too fast for him

Lagging near the back of the patrol was Sunfire, who had purposefully taken his time because, well he wasn't in a particular rush... and prey was plentiful at current. He'd get his chance. That proved to be true, when in succession, Graywind, Lionstripe, Falconmoon, and Stormwatcher all missed the same rabbit. Scoffing in disbelief, he hung back, waiting to see which direction the rabbit would flee away from Stormwatcher's claws... and once he'd calculated it, the yellow tom darted to the side, sprinting after the rabbit. He drew nearer and nearer with every stride, his claws outstretched, nearly touching the tip of the fluffy white tail in front of him, but he was so focused on the prey that he didn't notice the root sticking out from the ground... until it caught his paw, wrenching him to a vicious stop at the expense of several now-traumatized tendons. Sunfire fell flat, winded, for a moment, and laid there, assessing the damage and being incredibly thankful that he'd followed the rabbit into the denser forest. No one saw that. We're good. We're good.

Gingerly, the tom got to his paws, right rear leg lifted into the air as he took a few steps. Ouch, that hurt for sure, but he could walk it off, he'd be fine. Time to return to the patrol and pretend like the thing had just outrun him like it did literally half of SkyClan. The bushes to his left rustled. Sunfire's head snapped laterally, his ears slicking back. Aha, come back to let me redeem myself? He stayed as still as a statue, waiting for the rabbit to emerge... except it wasn't a rabbit that emerged. The brush parted, and a large, pointed snout emerged, bone-white teeth against a backdrop of ebony lips, dripping with saliva. Amber eyes, smoldering with malintent, fixed on the yellow tom, and Sunfire couldn't help that every hair on his pelt was suddenly on end. He took a step back. He tried to take a step back, but the same time his rear leg gave out on him, the dog leaped forward without a sound, stealthy as no dog had any right to be... and certainly not one this large, this vicious.

Iron jaws closed around Sunfire's torso, red-hot, searing pain exploded at the points where the teeth connected. The warrior screeched, half-pain, half-shock, but all fury. Hopefully the patrol hadn't gotten too far ahead.

Dog used Iron Bite on Sunfire, dealing 22 damage at the cost of 30 stamina.

Stormwatcher watched Sunfire take a turn at the rabbit and hoped he could get it this time. At least one of them had to be able to catch a little rabbit right?

Stormwatcher panted catching his breath and casually groomed at his front paws pretending like that rabbit had not just dusted him in that footrace.


His ears perked though when his clanmate screeched in pain. "youve got to be joking me" he grummbled running after where he had last seen sunfire.

He froze for a second in shock seeing dog bitting at his clanmate.

"ohh ohh .... oh FALCONNNNN HELPPP" he yelled for his fellow patrol mates.

Knowing falcon he was probably up some tree somewhere right now the half squirrel that he seemed to be Stromwatcher thought gloomily to himself that by the time falcon got here it would be bad news for sunfire.

Sigh... and Graywind and Lionstrip were behind as well. Why did he always get into these awful situations of having to bail his clanmates out anyways? The only clanmates he liked were wolf and stone and bird. He hardly even knew these others on patrol with him... He looked at the massive size of the dog and for a moment felt very guilty kinda wanting to hang back till the rest of the patrol could help them... He didn't want sunfire to get hurt but what good was flinging himself at some giant dog gonna do? Get them both killed?


But as antisocial as he sometimes was he couldnt stand to see his clanmate in pain even if it did seem like a hopless mission he knew he was supposed to try and help but it looked pretty pointless in general.

"Alright hang in there sunfire i'll try and draw it off ya" he meowed with half a sigh charging at the dog.

He swiped trying to get the dog off his clanmate. He ran around it and bit the dogs tail. He tried to tug as hard as he could to get the dog off his clanmate and hopefully let sunfire get free long enough that they could both run away.

we are both gonna get ourself killed now he thought very gloomily pretty much already given up on this fight as it seemed pretty winless.

Graywind knew better than to attempt going after the hare again. None of them seemed to be able to catch it, but there was easier prey they could catch... If the yowls of two of her clanmates didn't interrupt her hunting. Sunfire, she realized, and Stormwatcher calling for Falconmoon's help.

Without hesitation, Graywind followed the sounds of fighting, golden eyes widening slightly as she caught sight of the dog and the blood on Sunfire's pelt. "Of course you would find a dog, brother..." She muttered, before throwing herself at the beast with a flurry of unsheathed claws.
