Feeding the Clan [OPEN SkC Hunting]

((Note: We use SKyclan rolls, but a roll of 7, 8 or 9 will trigger an encounter with a twoleg trap! 10 is as usual, predators. This thread is open for Skyclan.))

It was taking a bit to get used to, but Wolfblossom had set up a couple patrols, one of them being a hunting patrol that she'd decided to lead. Rounding up her patrolmates around sunhigh, the group made their way out of the hollow in search of prey. Skyclan might have lost their territory, but the clan needed to be fed.

"Be careful, the last thing I want is for any of you to wind up in twoleg traps." She mewed quietly to her patrol. "And don't stray too far." Crookedpaw, sweet, inquisitive Crookedpaw, had been captured after getting stuck in one of those foul traps. Wolfblossom refused to let that happen to another clanmate if she could help it. Predators were enough to deal with, but in a group Skyclan would be okay to deal with that. Twolegs, on the other paw... The sooner they found prey and went back to their makeshift camp, the better.

Creampaw nodded as he padded alongside the deputy, eyes remaining focus for any sign of these so called traps. He couldn't deny that the knowledge of what had happened to Crookedpaw made it hard to want to leave the camp - the fear of the same thing happening to him but... It was also his job to help feed the Clan so when Wolfblossom had assigned him to her hunting patrol, there hadn't been a breath of objection uttered. If something did happen...Well, he knew his Clanmates had his back. He would be okay.

Lightningpaw followed Wolfblossom out of their makeshift camp with her usual upbeat attitude- it seemed that even Crookedpaw's capture hadn't dampened her spirits too much, after she'd had time to think. Even with the added danger, or perhaps because of it, the chance to explore any space beyond the one where they lived and slept was exciting: most everything beyond the clearing was still a mystery to her, aside from hazy memories of SkyClan's old camp. "Be careful, stay close, got it!" she chirped in response to the warrior's instructions, accompanied by a single strong nod to show she'd understood.

Stormwatcher was living near the outskirts of their little temp camp.  Waiting for things to cool off before returning fully.  It wasnt his fault the appretnice had been taken, he had even done everything he could to get the little guy free.  He still wasnt happy that Blackbear had full on attacked him for it, that was not boding well for the clan at all.  He was even more annoyed that Bird seemed to not care if clanmates openly attacked each other now.  He didnt fight back agaisnt Blackbear not wanting to escalte things and left to allow for things to cool down for a bit.

The sound of a hunting patrol sounded nearby hmm ... hed much rather take another nap and see what they came back with later... but being on thin ice already he knew he should at least try to keep helping out around here. Maybe he could be on lookout for twoleg traps now that he knew more about them now, while not caring very much for his clanmates, he still didnt want them carried off by the big evil ugly twolegs.


He caught up to the patrol "They like to hide them super well. We didnt even see it till it was too late, watch your paws He added on.  

Hopefully he could catch a couple different things, that should at least keep his clan somewhat together till they figured out a better plan.. He hoped there was a better plan in the works.  The sooner life could get back to normal the better, he was tired of having to work this hard for things and always be on the lookout for twolegs.


He spotted a squirrel up ahead and he licked his lips stalking towards it.

Oh the irony...

Leaping at the squirrel it darted just out of reach safe up its tree that was unclimbable even to a skyclanner.

But the disruption in the forest had awoken a Raccoon! It chattered angerly very upset that its nap was inturupted.

Dang, I hear ya guy... My nap was inturupted for this too.  ... I dont really wanna fight you thou... maybe you could just go back to slee--

Stormwatcher rubbed his nose the blood smearing a bit.

He didnt like fighting it hurt and he was a bit of a coward and baby.  The big guy was intimidating looking but had nothing to really back it up with.  But it looked like right now he didnt have a choice, he did know how to fight, just didnt enjoy it at all.

With a sigh he faced his opponent who was yawning still from its nap it had wanted. It was looking angry and glared at the apprentices.

Oh great... if this thing attacks the appretnices Bird is gonna kill me

Hed rather not have to fight this thing but here he went.

He charged right at the thing not really having a plan just hoping his bigger size would be enough to scare it off.

The quicker opponent managed to get out of the way of the predictable attack and managed to scape him up more in a counter attack all while still waking up and before his cup of coffee.

Storm felt more claws rip out tufts of fur ... Blast! this was why he hated hunting too many angry little critters that wanted storm steaks.

Creampaw and Lightningpaw confirmed they understood, and Wolfblossom nodded to herself. Creampaw seemed like he thought things through and was fairly cautious. Lightningpaw was... The polar opposite of the tom. That they seemed to have became friends despite how different they were wasn't lost on Wolfblossom, but it was a good thing.

She hadn't expected Stormwatcher to join the patrol after hearing about what had happened between him, Blackbear and Birdchaser after Crookedpaw's untimely capture, but they could use the extra set of paws. She would have to speak with him and Birdchaser later on about the situation, but for now she settled for offering the belligerent warrior a thankful smile. If he'd shown up, surely the situation could be worked through with a better result. "You're right. They did a good job of hiding them, unfortunately." If any of them got caught in one unawares, Wolfblossom wasn't sure how the rest of the patrol would go about getting a cat out of them. She hadn't had the nerve to get too close to the ones she'd seen, either.

Stormwatcher signaled that he was going after prey, and Wolfblossom nodded at him once, staying silent. The squirrel he'd gone for bolted up a tree to safety, but a failed catch wasn't the concerning part. The concerning part was the angry growls of a very upset raccoon, who seemed determined to engage Stormwatcher in combat. She couldn't just leave him to fight it alone, and so the large tabby and white she-cat leaped forward.

"Get away, mangepelt." Hissing at the raccoon, Wolfblossom hooked a paw around the creature's hind leg and yanked sharply to the side, throwing their adversary off-balance. It had done a fair bit of damage to Stormwatcher, helped by the failed strike at the raccoon's belly, but that couldn't be helped. He was a clanmate regardless of how tense things were at the moment, and Wolfblossom's goal was to keep the raccoon from going after the apprentices and minimizing whatever else it could do. If that ended in a dead raccoon, then so be it.

Wolfblossom used Experienced Steps on raccoon for -10 sp, dealing -8 damage. Raccoon is stunned for this turn.

Creampaw's eyes had been firmly on the ground - so focused in trying to locate any of the... things that had led to Crookedpaw's disappearance even if he wasn't fully sure what he was looking towards. There was a sound that he didn't recognize that caused his ears to perk, causing him to look up and see Stormwatcher face to face with a strange gray and black creature. It didn't look like a cat and its eyes were fixed directly on him and Lightningpaw causing him to take a timid step back before Stormwatcher threw himself at the best, followed by Wolfblossom as the beast outmaneuvered Stormwatcher and attacked him.

"I..." The apprentice grasped for words, for any idea of what to do as he watched Wolfblossom skillfully throw it off balance. His claws dug into the ground, before he recalled Lightningpaw was at his side - and his terrified breath left as a calming sigh. His friend would have his back - plus Wolfblossom would make sure he was alright. He could do this, he just had to remember what his momma had taught him. He darted forward, keeping close to the deputy as he brought his claws down the raccoon's side - wincing a bit at the feeling of slicing open the pelt and watching the blood bubble forth. O-Oh...So this was what fighting truly was.

As the raccoon approached, Lightningpaw blinked: this was a hunting patrol, not a battle patrol. Still, the cats around her- apart from Stormwatcher, who was being attacked- leapt into action (Wolfblossom with the skill of a warrior, Creampaw with the same inexperience she herself possessed but more training than she'd had); and she followed suit a moment later. Mimicking their movements to the best of her ability, and hoping it was enough when she hadn't had the chance to actually fight before, she dashed forward in a flurry of movement; sharp claws striking true to their target.

After falling back, she looked to her friend; all else forgotten. "Creampaw! You okay?"

Stormslayer breathed a sigh of relief as all his clanmates came to is aid and gave the raccoon a good smacking.

The sleepy raccoon was so confused as to where all these cats came from, it just wanted its nap and that big cat had woken it up.  It growled annoyed as it got smacked around.  It ran away to try and find a better spot to sleep.


Stormslayer groomed his fur down annoyed that the stupid creature choose to attack him.

"uhh thanks for the help everyone" he mewed quickly shaking out the debris from his pelt.

hmm well that was exhausting and so not fun... could they be done yet?? ugh they still hadnt caught anything yet... this is why he wanted things back to normal.  He longed for the days where he could let the others deal with all this hassle and reap the rewards all the same.  But it was crunch time right now for the clan and all paws were needed to keep things going and from breaking apart so he attempted to help out.

(hes like that one group member in group projects who does bare minimum work... they at least did something so its better than the group members who literally do nothing but hnggg yeah thats storm summarized)

He glanced around, no one else seemed to have gotten hit which was good (not that he really cared about anyone in particular but hurt clanmates meant more work for himself)

"uhh glad everyones okay

im so glad I dont have to carry one of you back to camp.  Just cause im the biggest one here doesnt mean I wanna have a sore back from carrying you around back to the med den. he thought gloomily to himself.


Right... back to the hunt.

He stuck kinda near the group but spread out enough that they were not tripping over each others paws or going after same target.

Seeing a little mouse nearby he attempted to go for it... stars it was small but there wasnt like alot of options middle of winter, oh well beggers couldnt be choosers

He caught it! He suprised even himself when He trapped it between his big fluffy paws. Wow, hmm so he actually did remember how to hunt! YES!

Well... it could at least be a snack, for like a kit maybe.

The raccoon quickly fled at the onslaught of claws aimed its' way, and Wolfblossom was glad to see it go. "Is everyone alright?" Her question included the apprentices, but Wolfblossom's pale gaze was focused on Stormwatcher. He'd been the only one caught by the raccoon, and despite the blood, Wolfblossom was glad it wasn't the younger pair with them.

"Nice catch, Stormwatcher." She nodded once in approval. Hopefully it was a sign their luck would turn for the better. The newly-appointed deputy turned in search of her own prey, though was careful to stick close. A squirrel among the branches caught her attention, and she leaped upwards, claws digging into tree bark. Her prey remained blissfully unaware, and she almost pitied the creature as her fangs cut off any squeal of alarm before it could even begin. Silently, she dropped back to the forest floor, burying the squirrel and rejoining her clanmates.

As the raccoon fled, Creampaw drew back to press himself against Lightningpaw as she turned to check on him. He could only give a mute nod in his shock at both her and Wolfblossom's question on if he was alright. That was... He shivered, taking in a deep breath to try to steady himself. He was fine, they were fine. Well, Stormwatcher had been hurt but he didn't seem bothered by it - they could keep hunting. Once he felt comfortable enough to start moving again, he pressed himself quickly against Lightningpaw before he drew away - tasting the air as he let the memories of his momma telling him all about how to locate prey wash over him.

It didn't take long for him to pick up a scent of a bird - chirping away on a branch. With a soft huff, he scrambled up the trunk of a nearby tree - heading to a branch that was slightly above where the bird was roosting. On quiet paws, he picked his way across the thin branch before he dropped into a crouch - judging his leap as he eyed the robin. Then, he leaped. There was a flurry of feathers - the bird spotted him a second too late and spread its wings but he landed skillfully on it, paws pinning it as he quickly broke its neck. With a content huff, he picked it up and dropped down to the forest floor - padding back to where he had last seen the others, proudly holding his catch.

Creampaw attempted to catch a bird, costing 3 stamina. Success!
