It was the middle of the night and almost everyone was asleep. Cranekit was no exception. However, that wasn't going to last very long. She was just waiting for the coast to be clear.

Flicking her ears around to listen if anyone was still awake in the den. There was nothing. She opened her eyes slowly and carefully sat up in her nest. Everyone in the nursery was snoozing. Good. She wasn't very tired so she was going to spend her time stargazing and just generally enjoying the nighttime until she was.

The kit got up and quietly tried to move around the den residents but accidentally bumped into someone. She sucked in a breath and hurried out of the den. Hopefully whoever it was would just go back to sleep and think it was nothing.

She breathed out and smelled the crisp night air. It was near-silent and the moon was looking as lovely as ever. She padded a bit further from the den and sat down. She tilted her head up at the sky and took in the pretty stars that adorned it. Without thinking much, she began to hum softly. She had plenty of time to think now that nobody was bothering her.

Larkkit

Unfortunately for Cranekit, it was Larkkit who she accidentally bumped into on her way out of the den. Larkkit opened one eye, glaring at her retreating form. It would make the most sense for him to just close his eye, roll over against his brother, and fall asleep again. But now that he was awake, he had energy…and he was admittedly a bit curious as to what kit was leaving the nursery at this hour.

He finally pushed up to his paws, being mindful not to disturb Rookkit, and he followed the she-cat outside. She seemed distracted, doubly so when she began to hum. He approached her silently from behind and then meowed, “It’s not exactly the hour to be going out on your own, do you think?”
