Harrierpaw cheered as Badgerpaw went for the dogs eyes  although failing to blind it, she still landed a hit. That was all they could ask for at this point.

On Dog #1 assaulting Leopardsun this time, Harrierpaw once again attempted to drag her claws along its belly again. Unfortunately, she slid under the dog and straight into a nearby wall of a den.

With the dog sent running with its tail between its legs, Nightstar's eyes flicked to the next victim. Singedfox was down, and there were no longer any cats capable of fighting the second dog. Nodding understandingly to his sister, Nightstar rushed after her. Launching forwards, Nightstar ripped his claws through the dogs skin, and snapped his jaws around its ear, pushing his paws against its shoulder as he desperately pulled with all his wavering might.

Nightstar used Desperate Blows + Snap Dealing 18 (6+10+2) Damage and Costing 14 Stamina.

An angry snarl escaped from Badgerpaw as the dog shook her off before striking out at Leopardsun yet again - and catching Harrierpaw as the apprentice tried to duck underneath it and strike. She spotted one of the dogs racing from the camp, a little relieved but they still weren't in good shape - her eyes fell to her injured family sprawled out around her. Then, her eyes snapped back to the dog as she launched herself at its head again - claws raking down its muzzle. "Harrierpaw! Get out of here!" she called out, catching wind of how tired her older sister looked - and hoping she could distract the dog long enough for Harrierpaw to escape.

Badgerpaw used Front Paw Strike on Dog #1, dealing 6 damage and costing 7 stamina.

Badgerpaw's attacks were certainly felt, as the dog turned its attention to her next. The same heavy blow that had struck Leopardsun more than once now made contact with her.

The deputy's single-minded focus wasn't quite broken as her daughter flew back, but she landed a well-placed strike to its nose in retaliation.

A yelp escaped Badgerpaw as the dog's attention finally turned on her, terror gripping her body for the first time since she had thrown herself into the fight - freezing long enough for the dog to easily swipe her away with a paw. Claws dug into her stomach for a brief moment of contact before she went sent tumbling from the dog's muzzle and onto the camp floor. A wheeze escaped her as her heart thumped in her chest - in her ears as she laid there, unsure of what to do about the pain. She had never... It was her first fight - she didn't know what it was like to be injured.

Was this it? Was she going to be left to lie here like her father and sisters as her mother fought the beast alone? ...No. She couldn't allow that. Slowly she pushed herself to her paws, shaky as she was as she looked up to see her mother facing down the beast - Harrierpaw haven't not manage to quite take the moment to escape like she had been hoping. She had to help - she... She took a step forward, stumbling on her paws as she bared her teeth in annoyance. No, she had to...

She had to protect her family. Nothing else mattered.

Harrierpaw's sacrifice was certainly not in vain, as the dog she'd been attacking turned and fled in much the same way as the first one had. Badgerpaw was likewise in less-than-ideal shape; clearly worn out from the battle. Leopardsun, as furious at the state of her camp and her family as she was proud of their efforts, turned to the last remaining threat: Nightstar and Swiftheart were currently focused on it. Good, that meant it was most likely focused on them and would be distracted.

Unfortunately, her blind rage had distracted her and left her vulnerably to an easy strike as she slid underneath the dog. Hissing in frustration, she returned to a proper battle stance.

"Rally together, ShadowClan!" she shouted, ignoring the sharp stinging of her pain. She had weathered worse before. "We will defend our home!"

The stubborn drive to keep fighting, that refusal to give in, was something she hadn't felt with such urgency since...

Since the Dark Forest.

She shuddered to remember that horrible night, standing now in the cold light of day.

A flood of relief washed over Badgerpaw at the sight of the dog turning tail and fleeing at Harrierpaw's final strike - watching as her mom raced across the camp to aid in fending off the final dog. The apprentice winced as she turned to follow after her mother - unwilling to surrender just yet despite her injury. She darted to join Nightstar's and Swiftheart's side as Leopardsun braved ducking below the beast for a hit - thought she seemed to come up short. The last apprentice in this fight, Badgerpaw was willing to give it her all as she slashed at the dog's side - fur prickling despite the blood that rushed down her side from her nasty injury.

Though its stance relaxed for just a moment, the dog's attention was caught first by two new cats charging forward- when had its allies fled?- and then a third sliding beneath it. That last one seemed an easy target, and so although it brushed off the first blow the second was stronger.

Leopardsun found herself slightly winded by the impact this time, knocked back and scrambling to her paws. She could feel her strength slipping, but she just had to keep it up for a little while longer-

They would win this fight. There was no other option.

Relief was a sweet nectar that Nightstar had seldom tasted, as another dog was driven off, and Leopardsun and Badgerpaw came to their aid. It did not last long, as Leopardsun had done her best to go for its soft underbelly but had not succeeded. Nightstar's chin dribbled with blood, whether it was his own or the dogs he wasn't sure. With the dogs attention on the new arrivals, Nightstar got close and reared onto his back paws, slamming his paws down on the dogs head once more.

Leopardsun drew back to her paws, gaze fixed on the dog. The cats that were still standing beside her were a relief and a reassurance, knowledge that even if she fell ShadowClan would not be undefended.

But she would not fall first.

She watched the dog for seconds that felt like hours, the pain and adrenaline blurring her sense of reality.

And then, as soon as she saw an opening...

She leapt forward, using the last of her strength to slam her paws onto its head; throwing it off balance if not to the ground.

Badgerpaw's eyes narrowed in anger as the dog swiped at her mom, relieved to see her staggering to her paws after it. With a growl, she lashed her tail as she waited for an opening - a moment to strike as Nightstar threw himself at the dog's head, slamming his weight down onto it.  As Leopardsun moved to follow after him - Badgerpaw's eyes saw the moment of opportunity. She launched herself at the dog, at the creature's neck this time - dragging her claws down its throat as Leopardsun brought it into range before she dropped to her paws and moved to flank her mother - muscles prepared for another strike if it wasn't enough for the dog to follow its companions.
