Born For Greatness [Open after kits post]

Wolfblossom was curled in the nursery around four bundles of golden and silver fur. When she'd realized she was pregnant, starting a family with Redheart, one thing she hadn't expected was how tired she would be. Quickkit, Falconkit, Sunkit and Graykit were steadily nearing the age where they would be apprenticed soon, and the deputy had been grateful to finally be able to sleep through the night. Usually she was up before them, slipping outside to assign patrols and take care of whatever needed to be done before sneaking back into the nursery before they woke. Today though, it seemed like the kits were stirring awake before she could. Wolfblossom was reluctant to move as she glanced down at them, wishing to enjoy the peace and quiet for just a little bit longer before the rambunctious kits were fully awake.

Graykit stretched, pawing at the air before rolling over to her belly. She was still a bit sleepy, but as she glanced around the nursery, she could see light from the den's entrance. With a yawn, bright golden eyes glanced from her siblings to her mother. At least mom seemed to be awake... But Graykit was hesitant to potentially disturb her siblings just yet, head dropping back to her paws as she snuggled closer to them.

A tight bundle of cream and gold fur lay curled at Wolfblossom's belly. The kit's tail, once stubby and straight, now showed fringes of feathering as the young tom whipped it over to cover his nose. It was cold, and even pressed between his siblings, an occasional stray, breeze would sneak in to the nursery through one of the few remaining cracks, chilling whatever delicate skin remained exposed. One such breeze pestered him now, tickling the tips of his ears, and Sunkit lifted a head, directing a disgusted yellow-eyed glare at the offending gap in the branches. Slicking his ears against his head, the kit attempted to shove himself further into his mother's pelt - a feat that, very soon, would be no longer possible thanks to the littermates' rapid growth.

Falconkit was yet another bundle, one of white and gold. He had gold on top of his head, all down his back and woven into his feathery tail as if the sunlight had permanently been absorbed into his fur from above. He had softer gold tabby stripes as well, thin lines covering his body as if the sunlight from his back became liquid and ran down his neck, shoulders, ribs and limbs in a windstorm. Falconkit's eyes, though closed, were the bluest of blues and as brilliant as a blue fire. The tom was a restless sleeper, often kicking and shuddering, grimacing and squeaking.

Falconkit had had night terrors as long as he could remember. The trouble was, the details of these nightmares was always fuzzy when he woke. He could rarely tell his mother anything about them. All he knew was that when he woke, he was often gasping for air and so terrified his entire being trembled long after the dreams had gone.

This was a rare day that he only twitched minimally while he slept, a rare night that he'd had a dreamless sleep. He slept so heavily now that the wind outside didn't rouse him in the slightest. As a matter of fact, his chin was wet with drool.

What did finally pull Falconkit from his deep sleep was the sound of birds outside the nursery, those hardy and brave enough to withstand the leaf-bare rather than leave with the others. His ears twitched and his eyes fluttered open. He rolled from his side to his belly, pushed himself up sleepily with his front limbs, and rested his slowly blinking eyes on his mother's face. He slowly gave her a sleepy smile.

"No dreams." He announced quietly but happily. Maybe they were finally starting to go away. He smacked his lips and rasped a rough tongue over them... only now realizing he'd been drooling on himself. Oops.

The small bundle of white fur with creamy brown and gray markings stirred slightly from her current position - which was a rather ungraceful sprawl upon her back with her paws in the air. The tip of her tail brushed against her nose in her curled state, and as her littermates began to stir as well she blinked her eyes open and huffed, whisking her tail away from her nose and twisting herself back on to her belly and shuffling forward to nestle closer to her mother, ignoring any protests that might be directed to her. Just a little longer... Then she'd actually get up. Maybe.

One by one her kits stirred awake, with Falconkit almost looking he'd slept for once, and his words confirmed it. Wolfblossom blinked at Falconkit's words, a purr  rumbling in her throat as she leaned forward to rasp her tongue across the top of his head. "Good, I'm glad." She mewed.

Sunkit and Quickkit were attempting to nestle back against her, and Wolfblossom's whiskers twitched in amusement. Patrols could wait just a little longer, she decided.

Graykit blinked at the sound of Falconkit's voice, before promptly shifting her weight closer to their siblings. A yawn escaped her, but it seemed like none of them were too willing to move just yet, and so she would be content to stay here for the moment.
