A New Litter (Open when kits post)

Streamtail felt very, very tired. It was still sun high. She wasn’t supposed to be this tired. Suddenly, a pang of pain made her tremble. Streamtail collapsed onto the ground, gasping as another wave of pain traveled from her belly to her whole body. The kits...the kits are coming. Streamtail thought. It was too early. Way too early. She wasn’t expecting the kits until a moon later. “A—Applefang. Spiderquill? Kits...” She panted as a spasm of pain wracked her again. She yowled, squeezing her eyes shut. Is this how much agony queens experience when they have a litter? Streamtail thought groggily. Please hurry...

Spiderquill raced over to the queens’ den at the sound of his name being called. It was Streamtail, clearly in labour. His heart skipped a beat as he realised that this was his first time ever delivering kits. He’d seen Mistleshine do it before, right? Yeah, he’d be fine. He lowered his head to meet Streamtail’s eye level. “Hey, don’t worry, I’ll help. Uh, hang on a second.” He rushed back into the medicine den to retrieve a pawful of poppy seeds and stick. Sprinting back over to Streamtail, he offered her the seeds and the stick. “Here you go. The poppy seeds are for the pain, just chew them and swallow. Uh, you can bite down on the stick if you’d like. I’ve heard it helps.”

Streamtail shuddered as another wave of pain made the edges of her vision go dark. She quickly lapped up the poppy seeds, feeling much better as some of the pain eased away. Jerking her head in a nod, she took the stick in her jaws and crunched down as another spasm wracked her body. “Spiderquill...could you please call Applefang?” Streamtail whispered through the stick. “I—I need his support...and if any of us don’t make it...” She shuddered again. She couldn’t think that. Her kits needed to survive.

Applefang heard his name and rushed in along Spiderquill. The ginger tom’s eyes widened. His mate was kitting? Now? Nervously, he stood by his mate. ”It’ll be ok, it’ll be fine.” he muttered, equally a comfort to him and Streamtail. Kits were gonna be painful, he had heard queens kit before. He hoped his mate wouldn’t have to experience too much pain. His ginger pelt was rigid with nerves.”Is it going right? Is she ok?” the normally carefree warrior asked the medicine cat.

Streamtail smiled weakly at Applefang, and a final spasm wracked her. Holding back the urge to yowl as loud as she could, Streamtail crunched on the stick. It snapped beneath her jaws, but she didn’t care. The kits were the first priority...even if it was at the cost of her life. Panting hard, she looked pleadingly at Applefang. “Stay beside me, please.” Finally, she couldn’t take it anymore...and the first kit slipped out, mewling for milk...

What a world it was, to feel the sudden brush of warm air and all sorts of tingling sensations. Those sensations pricked the heart of the newborn she-kit who was birthed whimpering right out the womb. The birth itself had been of no grand concern when it came to the small, determined brown tabby that came wriggling. The brown molly tried and a hard emphasis on tried to shift out of the grap who was trying to hold her. It was then she had been settled down on something noisy beneath her that the sweet scent of milk wafted through her nostrils. Similar to the ginger kit's reaction her body worked towards her mother's belly both for warmth and nutrients, the soft mews ebbing from loud they were formerly now that Thornkit was placated with milk.

The very fluffy orange kit didn’t know what was going on, just that she had to go towards the milk. She wiggled her way towards her mother but got distracted by a leaf. She pawed at the leaf and it mad a crunch sound that she really liked. She forgot all about getting milk and just playing with the leaf when her siblings bumped into her and reminded her. She pawed at the leaf to come with her while she kept on the journey for milk. When she found her mothers belly she was happy that Her mission was completed but than got sad as one of her siblings crushed her leaf. She started mewling as she mourned her lost friend.
