After her fantastic success of the previous day, Brookstone wanted to see if there was still any luck left to capitalize on. She wanted to milk it for what it was worth. Please, Starclan, let her luck continue for the foreseeable future! She really, really needs it. Thanks. ღ❖ Beginning her tracking, the molly kept all her senses sharp. This time around, she scented a mouse not too far from her starting point. Alright, it was game on! ღ❖ Little by little, the warrior snuck up on the mouse. She had to keep her pawsteps extra light but it was proving difficult with the snow. She noticed the rodent's ears twitching more constantly and decided to just go for it. Well, here went nothing. ღ

❖ "Oop-" In her haste to catch the rodent, she overshot her jump and went flying well above it. She gasped as she went tumbling into a bush. She felt herself crash into something solid. She slid into whatever she had collided with and just slumped down. "Ugh... Too much jump... Not enough catch..." she groaned. Brook carefully tried to stand up but soon found herself unable to extend fully. What the-? "!" Her eyes widened significantly and she let out a startled yelp. She was caught in a twoleg trap! This was hiding in a bush?? She needed to free herself and fast! ღ❖ Alright, alright. She had to stay calm and keep her thoughts rational. She could figure this out! She hadn't scented any pesky twolegs around so she was fine... Everything was okay... ღ❖ It felt like an eternity but after some time pushing, pulling, biting, and slamming herself against the trap's cover, the warrior finally managed to brute force open the entrance. She let out a cry as she went tumbling out into an undignified heap. Well, that could've gone much better... ღ❖ She shook away her disorientation and shakily got up onto her paws. Okay, okay, okay. She was fine; She was free and out of that horror den. She carefully peeked around to see if she could spot any danger that might've wandered over to her area after hearing all the commotion but saw nothing. She bit the inside of her cheek. Should she continue? A niggling voice in the back of her head said "no way" but she wanted to take at least one catch back to camp. ღ❖ One. She decided on testing her luck with one catch. After that, she was perfectly fine with high-tailing it outta there. Yeah! That was a good plan... Hopefully, it wouldn't come back to bite her in said tail. ღ______________________________________

| ❖ That... had been a rough start but, no matter! The day was still young and her goal was easy enough: Just catch one prey. See? Simple. It shouldn't take too long. She just needed to be extra vigilant and not overshoot this time... Oh! And she needed to watch out for those stupid twoleg traps. That... had been a scary experience. She had been lucky to not have been caught while a twoleg was nearby. It would've been game over. Sheesh... ღ❖ After some mindless wandering, her ears picked up some chips from somewhere in the underbrush. A bird? Good! There! There was something for her to catch! Time to not mess this up, Brookstone! ღ❖ She held her breath as she slowly but surely closed the distance between them. She froze when the bird's head snapped up. She prayed to the stars above that she hadn't ruined her chance. After an agonizing moment, the bird continued to peck at the ground. She was safe. Phew! ღ❖ Brook couldn't waste anymore time! She had to do it! With that internal conflict resolved, the warrior leaped at the feathered prey. ღ

❖ "ARGG!" she snarled out as the bird escaped from her clutches. She had been so close!! Today was proving to be much less lucky compared to the day before. Perhaps she really did use up all her fortune already...ღ❖ Brookstone jumped when she heard a constant heavy thumping and crunching coming her way. She scrambled back. What was that noise? She waited with bated breath as the origin of the noise came into sight; She began choking. Talk about bad luck. There was a stinking twoleg staring her down! Why did she have to jinx herself earlier?? ღ❖ The furless creature began to produce unintelligible noises. Uh, no thanks! She'll pass. Whatever it wanted, she wasn't curious enough to find out. They were everywhere lately. Why couldn't they just leave?! They strut around like they own the place. She really wished she was strong enough to smack one and have it hurt. Too bad there was a significant size difference... ღ❖ After scrambling away from that mess, she began to slowly shuffle about. She was honestly tempted to just give up. Her hunt had already been ruined twice. What if she kept running into twolegs? What if she got caught in another one of their traps? What is the next time, she wasn't able to run away or free herself? ღ❖ She... She just wasn't someone who gave up this easily. Her stubbornness won most of the time. Unfortunately, this was one of those times. She wasn't going to let those stupid twolegs ruin her day! She'll try again! Even if she doesn't manage to catch something, she'll be the one to dictate when this was over! ღ

| ❖ Third time's the charm, right? Well, it better be! She was slowly getting desperate for prey. She wanted to catch something but so far, it was proving futile. However, she'll just keep going. She had the drive and the energy. ღ❖ Brookstone tracked down a toad after some time walking. She didn't think much at all and just dropped down into the hunting crouch. She was focused—her eyes were staring into the toad's soul... if it even had one... No matter! She had to go for it. She needed to do things more quicker. ღ

❖ Sighing as she watched the toad jump away, the striped molly slowly stood up and shook her head. Well, she was certainly tired now. With a pout, Brook began her slow trek back to the camp, feeling dejected and exhausted. It- It had been a long day. She was more than ready to plop down into her nest. Her spirits began to lighten up once more as she thought about the comfort of the camp. She grinned to herself. This failure of a day didn't mean she will never have a good hunting day. She'll just have to keep on trying! Brookstone the Mighty never gives up even in the face of failure. Just wait, she'll be back better than ever! ღ______________________________________
