Herb Hunting For Health [open]

The small patrol of warriors followed Burdockroot through the marshy territory. The herb stock was running low, so she rounded up a few of the first warriors she saw to come with her. If they were happy or not about it, she didn't know. But if they wanted to stay healthy, they would be enthusiastic about searching for the plants. Pausing in a good spot before the marshes got truly deep, the medicine cat turned to face the rest of the patrol. "If you see a plant, call me over. I don't want anyone getting sick by biting the wrong plant." She said flatly before flicking her tail to dismiss them and starting her own search.

Herb Hunting Rules
To look for herbs, roll an Effect Dice.

Dice Roll Results

6 rolled will be the very useful, or more rare, herbs. Up to three different herbs can be chosen for this.
4-5 rolled will be the relatively useful or uncommon herbs. Up to four different herbs can be chosen for this.
2-3 rolled will be the common, everyday herbs. Up to six different herbs can be chosen for this.
1 rolled will be either a failure to find anything, or the one who rolls can find a poison. These are listed at the bottom of the herb list.

Moonpaw had been among those rounded up by the burly medicine cat, but she was far from displeased. It was another chance to try and impress her clanmates, and few were better to impress than one of the highest ranking clanmates she had. She couldn't quite keep the disgruntled expression off of her face as they arrived to the deep marshes, stepping high in an effort to avoid getting too much muck on her meticulously groomed fur. This was their territory however, and Moonpaw would not complain over it. Not outwardly, anyways.

"Will do." Like she would risk putting her paws on some unfamiliar plants that could be deadly... No thank you. She wasn't quite sure what to look for exactly, but casting her gaze around, a splash of color caught Moonpaw's eye and she headed toward it.

"Burdockroot? I found... Something. I don't know what it is, but it stood out sooo... Maybe it's something useful?" She kept well away from the red berries, not wanting to make a mess of things if they proved to be something useful, and not wanting to risk herself if they were something else entirely.

Asterpaw trailed after Burdockroot, taking extra care with every pawstep, eyes alert. Unlike her sister, the short black she-cat hardly minded the mud- indeed, if she’d been hunting, she would’ve tried to use it to cover her white paws and throat. For now, however, it didn’t matter- herbs could not run away. This was a good chance to learn the basics, at least, and spend some time with her sister and medicine cat, along with any others that had tagged along. Asterpaw hardly minded searching for herbs. True, it lacked the rush and adrenaline of hunting, yet was just as important. She might’ve hated doing it every day, but as a once in a while thing… well, it was helping the Clan. Supposedly. Surely other cats would know what to look for… yet if Asterpaw could be a help, she would strive to do so,

The young apprentice did not mind Burdockroot’s blunt tone- if anything, she appreciated the older Molly’s no-nonsense air. With a nod, Asterpaw fanned out into the marsh, taking careful, slow steps. Hmm. Any plants that looked out of the ordinary… that was just moss, that lichen, and that dead grass was too withered to be of any use… maybe this patch of grass? Asterpaw carefully snatched up a few strands of the marsh-grass before her sister’s voice caught her attention, and so the young molly carefully padded over, hoping to ask the medicine cat about the grass-looking-plant she’d found as well.

Setting what she’d found upon the ground, Asterpaw scrutinized the berries, keeping well away as well. “I also found something. Is it a herb?” she nudged the pile of grasses forwards with her paw.

Harrierpaw, glad to be back amongst her peers, was following anyone who would have her. Just so happened that today's activity was herb hunting. She had zero idea what herbs did what, but she was glad to be of some assistance. She did try to temp Batpaw with coming along, but he refused saying he'd rather eat a rock.

Trailing alongside Moonpaw and Asterpaw, Harrierpaw spotted something as well. "I've found something as well!" They were round and red, something she'd never seen before. Curious as she was, she left the picking of it to the Burdockroot.

Redice followed after his companions... if they could be called that... and curiously looked around for these alleged plants that were allegedly so wonderful. He knew what a few plants were, so he didn't bother calling Burdockroot to his attention unless he thought he saw and smelled something interesting. With everyone finding something so quickly, a flash of anger showed in Redice's eyes. He was going to find the best plant! With an agitated flick of his tail, he quickly set his eyes and nose to work for anything that stood out. Once he thought he'd found something of value, he sat beside it and looked at Burdockroot.

"I found something too. I'm sure you'll be pleased." He had no idea, but at least he sounded confident.

As the group of mostly apprentices separated she began searching for herself. Trudging through the marshes wasn't necessarily fun, but the environment let herbs flourish, even in leaf-bare. With an expert eye she quickly found some Coltsfoot and quickly and delicately plucked the leaves, making sure to leave some so it can grow more. Delicately, she had just picked up the bundle when the almost simultaneous calls from her clanmates rose in the air. Gently dropping the bundles she called out. "Everyone stay put and don't touch them." The last thing she needed was for an apprentice to eat something bad. Picking them back up, she headed over to Redice since he was closest. Once more, she placed the bundle down and inspected the plant.

"Dock!" she exclaimed, almost gleefully. "Great find, Redice, this will... be very important." Temporarily she trailed off. If ShadowClan was to go to war, she would need a lot of dock. "Watch." Leaning down, she demonstrated how to pluck the dock without damaging the plant or leaves to Redice and laying them in a neat bundle. "Carry these gently. If you damage them, StarClan help you." Her tone was almost joking, but not really. Her herbs were taken very seriously. Picking up her own bundle, she joined the nearest apprentice, Moonpaw. Asterpaw and Harrierpaw was close by. Once more, she put her herbs down. As she did so, the bright red berries immediately caught her eyes. Lifting her head and sweeping her gaze, the red berries next to each of the apprentices were enough to cause a small flutter of panic in her chest. Was this actually fear or anxiety? It wasn't something she had ever really felt before but it made her fur want to rise.

"Everybody come to me now. We're done now. We don't need these herbs." She glanced at Redice subtly. Burdockroot was hesitant to tell the apprentices what these things actually were due to his presence. When the apprentices gathered around her, instead she opted for a more general lesson. "Good job spotting the plants. In the future, remember to never eat plants you find. It could hurt you if used wrong. Don't accept herbs from anyone but myself or a future apprentice of mine, or another medicine cat." Clearing her throat, she motioned with her tail for them to follow her. Everything in her wanted to get these apprentices away from these berries as fast as possible. With a nod, she picked up her bundle and started back to camp. Carefully, she watched the group move forward and making sure all looked normal.

It wasn't long before everyone had found something, and Moonpaw glanced over at Asterpaw curiously. The plant she'd found didn't look too out of the ordinary, but maybe the siblings had indeed found something useful. Redice almost looked displeased, perhaps he thought he would be first to find something. Of course, that was just foolish. Moonpaw and Asterpaw were here, so logically they would be the best cats to find something. That superiority was in their blood after all, not Redice's, and not Harrierpaw's. They could stay jealous all they wanted.

Moonpaw's tail twitched in annoyance as Burdockroot went to Redice first, but since he'd been closer, she reluctantly had to admit it made sense. Dock, Burdockroot said, and it would be important? Moonpaw stared at the plant Redice had found, determined to memorize the appearance of it. If he'd found some, she would have to find more of it herself.

What the three apprentices had found however, didn't seem to please the medicine cat nearly as much. Burdockroot called everyone to her, explaining that they... Didn't need the herbs? Moonpaw's green eyes narrowed at that, and she listened to the rest of the medicine cat's speech, ears briefly flattening. Annoyance maybe, or embarrassment at being asked to do something pointless. Perhaps it had been a lesson for the apprentices, and Redice had found something and had no trouble, but... Perhaps what she and the other had found had been one of the more dangerous things they'd been warned of. She glanced at Asterpaw and Harrierpaw, trying to judge their reactions, but said nothing for the moment. Perhaps it had been a good thing she hadn't touched those berries then...

Harrierpaw looked at the ShadowClan medicine cat quizzically, but said nothing. Of course she found it odd that the herbs they found were suddenly not needed, but she herself was not the medicine cat and would trust Burdockroots judgement. Though if she didn't know any better she would say Burdockroot looked... anxious about the red berries.

Though it was a disappointment that she and her fellow apprentices weren't acknowledged for finding something like Redice had been. That would have been nice. And it seemed like Moonpaw shared some of that feeling. But oh well! Perhaps another time would be there's to shine.
