It was always good to learn, really. Even- Dawnfeather focused on the cat beneath her, both panting from the struggle. She doubted she could keep the much larger she-cat down any more without being seriously winded in the process- so she doubled down on the pin, pressing her paws hard into Wolfblossom’s shoulders- before suddenly leaping away, hoping to avoid immediate relatiation. Maybe… this was just a spar, so it didn’t hurt to take risks…

Sharp claws hooked into a low-hanging branch as Dawnfeather suddenly reversed her trajectory, sending herself flying towards Wolfblossom- but the other she-cat was faster and stronger than she had expected, and Dawnfeather ended up tumbling on the ground, a perfect target for a pin.

Well. At least it was fun?

Dawnfeather attempted to use Belly Rake, rolling for success (oh I shouldn’t have pushed my luck) it failed, dealing 5 damage in recoil and costing 25 stamina!

Pale blue eyes sparkled with amusement as Dawnfeather missed. Now was her chance to finally turn this spar around! Granted, it was only a spar, of course, but Wolfblossom couldn't shake off her more competitive nature so easily. Rather than going for a pin however - the expected move, no doubt - Wolfblossom darted toward Dawnfeather, sheathed paws aiming for her belly. Dawnfeather wasn't likely to stay still for long, of course... And that outcome proved to be correct, leaving Wolfblossom to try and clumsily regain her own footing, panting.

Dawnfeather lay still for a moment, regaining her breath with eyes seemingly half-lidded- but as soon as Wolfblossom bounded towards her, she scrambled out of the way, accidentally thwacking the other she-cat on the face with her long tail. Maybe if Wolfblossom had gone for a pin she wouldn’t have been able to move out of the way in time, but hey, she’d make the same mistake Dawnfeather had- and was likely about to make again- after all, what was a spar except a practice fight? And she wanted to be able to land this move in a fight, after all.

With quick paws she sought to lash out once more, aiming for the grey she-cat’s stomach, but she was winded, and tired, and just not-quite fast enough… or maybe Wolfblossom was just that good at sparring? Dawnfeather let out a laugh at the absurdity of two experienced warriors missing again and again. Oh, she knew she could carefully gauge the distance… but she wanted to try something risky, yeah?

Dawnfeather attempted to use Belly Rake again… oh how I wish Climber’s Grasp applied here lol as it was just barely unsuccessful, dealing 5 damage in recoil and costing 25 SP.

Dawnfeather laughed, and Wolfblossom, while some could've been offended by such in a spar, had little doubt as to why the older molly was laughing. "We look ridiculous." Wolfblossom muttered, though she couldn't quite manage to keep the amusement from her expression. That didn't, however, mean that Wolfblossom wasn't keenly watching the other's movements, observant, waiting. She leapt forward in an explosive burst of speed, hoping to bring Dawnfeather to the ground once more. Her paws found purchase, much as Dawnfeather's had before, and her weight sent the two tumbling back to ground where Wolfblossom was quick to keep her opponent from moving too much... For the moment, at least.

Wolfblossom used Leap and Hold for -15 sp, dealing -10 damage. Dawnfeather is pinned for TWO turns.

“Does it matter?” she replied to Wolfblossom’s muttered statement, the light of laughter still shining in her eyes. Ah, it had been too long- too long since she’d had such fun. She made no attempt to dodge the move- she doubted whether she even could’ve, what with Wolfblossom’s sudden speed- but instead rolled with the attack, seeking to minimize what damage had been done. The spar was almost over, and she hardly doubted that she’d lost- if she’d been in a real battle, she wouldn’t have tried such risky moves as she had been doing, but it was all in good fun, and even as the wind was driven out of her lungs as they rolled on the ground a few chuckles escaped her maw. This reminded her- it reminded her of play-fighting with Holly and Wasp when they were young apprentices- when Muddy had joined in and sat on them all, and she’d been helpless, shaking with laughter. Oh, the good days- bathed in a nostalgic light.

Perhaps the beginnings of a tear shimmered in Dawnfeather’s eyes for a moment, but if it did, it was quickly dispelled. She feinted with her powerful hind legs but instead rolled to the side, seeking to break the pin and hopefully send Wolfblossom tumbling to the ground as well.

Dawnfeather used Duck and Twist, attempt was successful, dealing 7 damage and costing 5 stamina.

"I suppose not, no." Wolfblossom responded with a twitch of her whiskers. She hadn't, it seemed, gotten as secure of a hold as she thought she did, or perhaps Dawnfeather was more skilled than she'd previously given the she-cat credit for. No doubt that she was Skyclan, of course, and in a clan filled with larger warriors, it only made sense that Dawnfeather would know how to get out of her sparring partner's tricks. She could use her smaller size and speed to her advantage, while Wolfblossom had always relied on her strength, much like her mother and many clanmates before her.

As Dawnfeather rolled to the side, effectively breaking Wolfblossom's grip, the tabby swiped at her with another sheathed paw, blue eyes studying her opponent. They wouldn't spar for too much longer, she thought, but it had been a good exercise.

With a quick scramble not unlike that of a squirrel, Dawnfeather shot to her paws again, shaking her fur out. She was getting tired, aye, and if she wanted to be able to hunt a bit later in the day (not at dawn, despite how much she wanted to; leaf-bare dawns were often too chilly for her long yet thin fur) they’d have to end this soon. It had been fun, getting to know her Clanmate whilst doing something she thought they both enjoyed- aye, for the way Wolfblossom had charged out of the trees certainly wasn’t hesitant or bored.

Dawnfeather looked down at the ground for a split second, catching her breath, then snapped her head up with a mischievous glint in her eyes. She’d backed herself up against the Halfstone once more; and kicking against it surged forwards- not quite as fast as she had earlier, tiredness was starting to weigh down her limbs- she rammed her head against Wolfblossom’s side, swiping out with sheathed paws at the same time. An unexpected move- certainly. One she would use in an actual fight? Certainly not, but this was a spar, and while she could’ve brought her teeth into play, however lightly, she was getting tired and hoped that this would signal her victory.

Darting back, she grinned. “Ready to admit defeat?” the golden molly asked playfully. She could’ve added a bit more force to the attack to throw Wolfblossom off balance; but the other molly was probably as tired as she was. What she did next would tell Dawnfeather a lot about her too; Beechaunt and Bloodstrike probably would’ve still tried to win, knowing Dawnfeather was too tired to dodge, whilst, say, Prima would’ve accepted defeat with a gracious smile. Dawnhawk- Hawkuncle-he would’ve surrendered then attacked the moment you turned your back.

Dawnfeather used Headbutt and Desperate Blows, dealing 13 damage and costing 12 stamina.

"Never!" Wolfblossom laughed as Dawnfeather headbutted her, though her thick, fluffy fur was probably more than enough to cushion any damage the she-cat could've done to herself with the move. Or, Wolfblossom thought so. The hit hadn't been particularly hard, being a spar and all. The light paws that batted at her side were just as light. Wolfblossom reached out with a front paw again, aiming to lightly tap Dawnfeather on the head with it. They were both beginning to tire, that much was clear to her. "Give in, yet?" She countered.

If she’d been fully alert and not focused on the way that her paws dragged against the grass, she might’ve seen the paw strike coming- but as it was, she leaned into it, letting it bowl her over so she could lay on her back in the grass and soak up the last of the sunlight, grinning up with sharp white teeth. Ah, so Wolfblossom was a fighter; possessed of the signature SkyClan stubbornness- not that that was a bad thing, it could quite come in handy at times. It was a good trait, that- one that kept the Clan going through leaf-bares that sucked the soul from the terrritory. Dawnfeather possessed stubbornness as well, though of a different type: willing to go with the flow, yet there was a reason Wolfcall had cited her resilience- stubbornness, but of a differing sort.

“Alright, you’ve got me,” she purred fondly, feeling the exhaustion seep out of her limbs and into the earth below. “You’re a fighter, aren’t you? The Clan needs strong, uncompromising cats like you- though best in small doses, like poppy seeds-“ a giggle escaped her, laughter shining in her eyes. In Wolfblossom’s place, she would’ve given up; but she wasn’t Wolfblossom, she was Dawnfeather, and Dawnfeather was her: a name bequeathed by her mother in the ultimate show of second chances; a name given by her great-grandfather who saw only the good in her heart.

Dawnfeather had taken her defeat as an opportunity to flop down onto the grass, and Wolfblossom stretched out beside her, head raised in triumph. "You fought well." Like a Skyclanner. A crafty Skyclanner, and while Wolfblossom may have been outwardly more of the brawny type, she understood the value of that, too. "Of course I am, what else could I be, in this forest?" She had no chance. No chance and no choice to be anything but. At first it had simply been wanting to impress her mentor, her parents, the rest of the clan. To prove herself. But Beechfang's confession and the resultant chaos, and Perchstar had shown her that she had family to protect. A clan to protect, too. To protect them from themselves, and from those who would seek to harm them. Neither were things she would ever be interested in giving up on. "Poppy seeds?" She tipped her head in Dawnfeather's direction, half-amused, but curious. "Even small doses can be potent, I suppose." She mewed, fluffy tail idly twitching behind her.
