Subject: Just a Friendly Patrol [Marshmallow] Sun 2 Oct 2022 - 17:48
The nights were beginning to get chillier, Harechaser realized as she padded through the territory with Marshmallow. The two had been sent out to hunt, and she hoped that they would meet with success. As the weather began to turn, Shadowclan would need the fresh-kill in order to survive. They'd done a remarkable job in recovering after the flood, but leafbare marched closer than anyone would like.
"This should be a good spot." She mewed, paws slowing as they neared the familiar pine grove. It was usually a good spot, but Harechaser knew they also had to be careful of overhunting, too. A few solid catches would be enough and then they could move on.

MARSHMALLOW - Marshmallow didn't know Harechaser all that well. Of course, she'd be able to recognise her and she knew a little bit of what she was like, but she never actually spoke to her. At least, not that she could remember. Marshmallow also didn't know if it was the best idea to be hunting, especially after what happened on the patrol with Rookfire... but she felt okay, now. She was sure she'd be alright... She hoped, anyway.
Following Harechaser through the territory, she felt cool air whisk through her fur. Hopefully her kits ended up inheriting their father's soft fluffy fur, she wouldn't want them to be cold... especially since they were being born so close to Leafbare. She... maybe was a little jealous of Harechaser having longer fur than she did.
"Mhm." Marshmallow mumbled quietly in agreement. "Should we split up or stay together?" She asked, making her voice louder so it was at least audible.

"Splitting up will give us a better chance at catching something. Stay within shouting distance, at least." Stars knew the clan had been finding plenty of predators to sink their claws into, and predators had been finding them as well. There was no reason to risk their pelts by straying too far from each other.
Turning, Harechaser's jaws parted slightly as she inhaled the cool night air. The scent of mouse was easy to find, and dropping into a crouch, and the ginger and black she-cat carefully began to follow the scent. Her prey wasn't too far from where she'd started, and Harechaser's muscles bunched as she prepared to leap for it. The mouse never got the chance to scurry away, Harechaser's paw finding the creature's fragile neck. Prize in her jaws, she glanced back toward where she'd left Marshmallow with a grin.
Harechaser attempted to catch a mouse for -3 sp. Catch was successful. 137 / 140 sp

MARSHMALLOW - Marshmallow simply nodded quietly with agreement. She waited until Harechaser split away from her before moving away herself, keeping her senses alert for moving bushes or grass, and the scent of prey, of course.
Finally, she found something... A rabbit. She hadn't seen a rabbit in the territory, though, and she should've probably been wary of her pregnancy when trying to catch it. She moved sideways into better cover, watching the rabbit from behind. She went to leap, but one of her paws caught onto something, immediately giving away her position. She turned her head back to stare at what had caught her, but a squeal caught her attention and she realised the rabbit had already fled.
Sighing, she tried to tug her paw out, but it was stuck. "Harechaser!" She called. "I got stuck in... Something!" She kept trying to free herself before realising she was definitely stuck and needed help.
Marshmallow tried to catch a rabbit... Failure...

Harechaser's ears twitched at the unexpected call of her name and she turned, following Marshmallow's call. Stuck on something? She gazed at the older warrior quizzically, mismatched gaze turning towards her paw which... Was definitely stuck. Didn't she know to watch her step? "Well, it could be worse." She mewed. "Come on, let's see if we can unstick you." Harechaser reached out a paw, tentatively aiming her claws at the thing that was encircled around Marshmallow's paw. Cutting through whatever had gotten her stuck would allow her movement, and if bits and pieces happened to still be stuck to her that they couldn't remove after that, that's what Fuzzybelly's den was for.
