We can fly (Open Hunting)

Silverwing sat under the gorse wall, basking in the shade that it offered. It had been a couple of day since her warrior ceremony, and she had to admit nothing felt different. Sure she was given more freedom, but what would she do with it? She would rather remain surrounded by the cats of her clan, but even that left her feeling down. Her dream at the Moonstone had opened her eyes to a lie she had been telling herself, and now it hung over her like a cloud. It was out in the open, but that didn't mean she had to acknowledge it. The memories of that dream swirled in her head. The more she thought about it the worse she felt. Silverwing stood. She needed to leave camp, she needed to do something to take her mind off of that stupid dream. Scanning the camp, she spotted Brackenwing. The senior warrior owed Silverwing for ruining her first gathering, didn't she? Trotting over to the camp's entrance, Silverwing announced, "Brackenwing and I are going hunting, anyone wanna join?" She cast a glance toward Brackenwing once more before turning her gaze to the other cats in camp.

Blazefang’s ears perked up. “I’ll join!” she called, running to the camp entrance. “That is, if you don’t mind going on patrol with your former mentor now that you’re a warrior,” she chuckled.

Scorchtalon glanced over at the entrance at the sound of the young warrior's call for a patrol, and reluctantly heaved himself to his paws. He was in no mood to patrol, but the clan needed to be fed, and if this would help him make amends for his mistakes, then so be it. He ambled over to the group, his eyes downcast as he gave them a friendly nod in greeting. "I'll come too, if that's alright." He chimed in, his voice low.

Brackenwing had been resting beneath the shade that the gorse edging camp provided, though her head lifted as Silverwing's voice rang across the clearing. "You are impossible." Brackenwing muttered under her breath as Silverwing all but volunteered her to patrol and asked for others to join them. Her words lacked any real heat however, and she still stood up, approaching Silverwing as Blazefang and Scorchtalon decided to take Silverwing up on her offer. She offered the two other warriors a small nod in greeting. She'd trained alongside Blazefang as an apprentice, but didn't know Scorchtalon all that well. She... Didn't know Blazefang all that well either, truthfully, but they were her clanmates, if nothing else.

"Let's go, then." She mewed softly, eyes turning toward the gorse tunnel. "It'll be good to stretch our legs, at least."

Daisybreeze ears flicked hearing a hunting patrol gathering.  That sounded like fun... It at least would get her out of camp.  She had been socially demoted to appretnice for a bit since she had attacked Whisperear out of anger.

She felt terrible about it and the amount of times she caught her clanmates giving her suspicious glances and avoiding her was high.  She had messed up.  That was super difficult for the proud molly to admit but she knew deep down that it was her fault for not being able to control her anger better. She walked towards the forming group but haulted hesitatitng...

would they even want me in their group?

she pushed the idea away, no.  She had made a mistake sure but she was not gonna let that dictate if she could join a patrol or not. She was a great hunter! She would show them that and show them why she was still a valuable warrior.

Going over to them confidently she nodded greetings to the other warriors. With her usual overconfidence and head-strongness she flicked her tail in signal to go. "Come on lets go!" she purred eagerly as she led the way out of camp and into the moorlands.  Sure, Brackenwing and Scorchtalon and Blazewing may all be older than her but she would lead this thing if given the opportunity and seeing as how they were all just standing there gawking it was easy to take lead of anyways.

The eager young molly began searching for any signs of rabbits nearby, she wanted to catch the biggest one.


Very luckily for her for once she spotted one almost immediately.

Crouching low to the earth the stealthily crept towards it.  She had her father Hawkheart's size so she wasn't as lean as most other windclan cats, that wasnt gonna stop her from running this rabbit down.  What she may have lacked for in typical windclan build, such as sleekness and small frame for quick turns.  She made up for with a killer instinct and the desire to show everyone else up.  Her competitiveness truly did help on the hunt as she was able to push herself harder than when she was by herself.

She got as close as she dared before the chase began.  Leaping out at it she bounded after, the race was on.


The rabbit had gotten a couple leaps head start but that was not nearly enough for the prey. Daisybreeze quickly closed the distance and with a snap around the rabbits neck it was over in a matter of seconds. It dangling from her jaws she pranced back to her patrol-mates head held high. No one would be questioning her place in this clan anymore.

She gave a particular nod to the senior warriors of the group as if to say... yeah... your turn show us what the so called senior warriors can do.

Silverwing met each new member of her hunt eagerly. "Always happy to have you!" she purred excitedly. The young warrior hadn't expected a chance to impress her former mentor so soon, but she wouldn't let the ginger she-cat down. Next to join them was Scorchtalon. She had never really interacted with him before. "Hey Scorchtalon." Silverwing stepped forward, giving his shoulder a friendly nudge. "Look alive, you're about to witness my leadership skills!" Maybe leading the patrol was going to her head. As Brackenwing approached the group, Silverwing offered a wink and a wide smile. She had a reason for wanting to go out with Brackenwing, and soon the senior warrior would dread this day. "Alright, let's-" Silverwing cut off as she heard another cat approaching. "Daisybreeze?" Silverwing still didn't know how to feel about the warrior. Hearing some of what she had said to Batsong had been appalling, but seeing how she was being avoided by others in camp didn't sit right with Silverwing. Surely she deserved another chance, right? Before she could greet Daisybreeze as she had the other members of the hunt, Daisybreeze began leading them out of camp. Silverwing stared after Daisybreeze in silence for a moment. "I was gonna lead." she mewed softly, disappointment evident in her tone.

As much as she hated to admit it, even to herself, Daisybreeze was fast. The race to catch the rabbit had been exciting to watch, especially the killing blow. Splitting from the group, Silverwing padded along until she found the scent she was looking for. Finally! She had never had a chance to hunt one before, but she was determined to change that. A Lapwing stood, obscured slightly by the tall grasses surrounding it. Dropping to a crouch, the young warrior slowly stalked the bird. When she was at a close enough distance, Silverwing pounced at the bird.

The Lapwing made to fly away, but Silverwing was already upon it. Paws pinned the helpless bird to the ground, and the warrior swiftly delivered a killing blow. Excitement flooded her once more as she trotted back to the group. "Hey Brackenwing," she purred around the limp bird in her mouth. Silverwing dropped the bird at Brackenwing's paws, beaming up at her. "what has two wings?" the question was a simple one, the bird at the warrior's paws being a dead giveaway. Nevertheless, Silverwing waited patiently for a response.

Blazefang cringed a bit when Daisybreeze took over the patrol. Should she say anything? She decided to at least catch something before approaching the calico. The scent of a rabbit wafted across the moor, and Blazefang dropped into her crouch. Moving silently and swiftly towards the rabbit, the ginger prepared to pounce.

Much to her dismay, the rabbit saw her and bolted into a nearby hole. Blazefang wasn’t about to let it get away, though. Diving, the she-cat worked her paws furiously into the dirt, disappearing like a liquid into the warren as soon as the tunnel was wide enough. A scuffle ensued, and after a few minutes the warrior emerged triumphantly. She was covered in dirt and had claw and bit marks in several places, but she had a dead rabbit in her jaws.

Scorchtalon blinked in surprise as Daisybreeze appeared suddenly, charging forward at the head of the patrol. He vaguely remembered something about an argument between her and Batsong, and some sort of altercation with Whisperear. He was out hunting when the incidents happened, but lately he'd been far too distracted to bother tuning into his clanmates squabbles. As far as he knew, no one had gotten badly hurt, so he wasn't too concerned. Following the patrol out of camp, he quickly slunk off into the heather in a random direction.

He stalked through the grass, ears perked, every muscle on high alert. Before long he spotted a young rabbit, seemingly oblivious to his presence as he crept toward it. His eyes darted to a shadowy hole, barely visible among the tall grass. If he moved too soon, the rabbit would dart into the tunnel and he'd lose it. Scorchtalon felt a twinge of sadness at the thought of tunnels, remembering Mallardduck's tragic death. Guilt welled inside him. Could he have prevented the young warrior's death, had he not been so consumed in his tryst with Marshmallow? Even now, the ginger tabby warrior couldn't ignore the longing he felt when he thought about the black spotted she-cat. Had she moved back into her own camp yet? How was she coping with Froststar's death? Scorchtalon shook his head, firmly refocusing on his current task. The rabbit still hadn't noticed him, but he knew it wouldn't be long before the creature moved on.

I can't let the younger warriors show me up!, he thought to himself, a bit of his competitive spirit returning. He crept closer, waiting until he was a mere tail-length away from the rabbit before bunching his muscles to leap toward it, paws outstretched to snag the meal in his waiting claws. The rabbit let out a shriek of terror, turning to flee, but it was too late. Scorchtalon pinned the rabbit to the ground, cutting off its struggles with a swift bite to its neck.

Scorchtalon attempted to catch a rabbit! The catch was successful!

Silverwing was smirking at her. That couldn't be good. Brackenwing was no stranger to mischievous cats, though Silverwing at least knew what she was doing. Unlike Mintheart and Moorbite, who Brackenwing was absolutely certain were insane. And that meant that whatever Silverwing was plotting, it couldn't be worse than the crazy elders. It seemed they were all ready to head out onto the moors when another face appeared. Daisybreeze, who Brackenwing honestly didn't know all that well. Beyond her rude, quite frankly appalling words to Batsong. It had soured her opinion of the young warrior, and she had little care of getting to know her any further than what she'd already witnessed.

And then Daisybreeze decided to take over the patrol and lead it herself. So much for whatever Silverwing had been up to... But Brackenwing, despite her bemusement with Silverwing's antics, couldn't help but feel irked that Daisybreeze had butted in the way she had. She hadn't been the one to call the patrol together, who was she to take over and lead?

Tail lashing once in annoyance, Brackenwing stalked through the grass alongside her clanmates, quickly veering off as Blazefang and Scorchtalon went off in search of their own prey. Daisybreeze had wasted no time in catching something of her own, and Brackenwing wasn't about to be the odd one out.

It didn't take long to spot the furry frame of a rabbit peeking out from one of the many warrens scattered across the territory. Brackenwing quietly circled behind it, careful to keep downwind as she did so. She wasn't particularly fast, and while some of her clanmates could win a chase with their prey, she wasn't one of them. She was stockier in build and more muscular, rather than long-legged and built for running. A very real disadvantage on the moors, but she managed. As long as she managed to get close to her prey, her hunting was... passable.

Closing in on the rabbit from behind as quietly as she could, Brackenwing's muscles tensed as she prepared to leap for her prey. The rabbit struggled as her paws slammed into it from behind, kicking wildly as Brackenwing sank her fangs into the creature's neck. A paw caught her ribcage painfully, and she gasped before tightening her grip on the rabbit until it fell limp beneath her. Rising to her paws, Brackenwing trotted toward the rest of the patrol.

Silverwing tripped over with her own catch, and Brackenwing rolled her eyes at the question, The answer was obvious, or this was a trick. "Birds?" She responded dryly, not quite able to keep her tone from rising at the end, as if in question.  "Nice catch." Brackenwing added.

Soon after her first catch, Daisybreeze could not belive her luck as yet another rabbit was into view. Wow they were making this all too easy even!  Stalking towards the target she grinned as she got within range.

Leaping out at it! She gave chase... she was catching up to it! yes she would get it! Then however, the rabbit really kicked it into gear and took off even faster. The warrior did her best to keep up but was falling back behind. She was already winded from her first catch and the rabbit soon got into one of its hidning holes safe beneath the earth before she had another chance to cut it off.

She breathed heavily catching her breath.. she wasnt used to losing... but at least she had one catch to show for.


Going back over to the main group,

Daisybreeze was pleased to see that there were so many successful catches, this patrol was doing really well.

Obviously thanks to my great leading agility her pride told her a bit, as she grinned happily thinking that to herself.


After rejoining the others a bit and setting her catch down she caught the tail end of what Silverwing was asking... something about wings?? The young molly blinked several times in wonder... she wasnt sure how this was relevant to hunting

Birds had two wings which is what the senior warrior gave as her answer... hmm she just knew birds were tasty and wanted to get back to hunting so they could have more of those wings.

"hmm butterflies maybe?" she guessed something else to better the odds that at least someone would guess the question that Silverwing was asking
