| Snowfoot had never been so happy to feel mud squishing between her paw pads. She was home, she was fairly healthy, and she was back to providing for her clan in a way other than babysitting. Not that she had any problem with babysitting, but the prey had suffered just like the clan in the floods and right now every able-bodied warrior needed to either be hunting or rebuilding the camp. The experienced warrior sniffed the air, untangling each scent. It took longer than it used to, but at last Snowfoot caught the scent of a mouse. For once, the wrecked territory was working in the clan’s favor. The unfortunate critter was trapped in the mud and couldn’t even get away. She just walked up and killed it. The she-cat couldn’t help but burst out laughing. She managed to laugh quietly, but her body shook. “This is ridiculous!” she choked out between gasping breaths.
