Fuzzybelly did his best to keep a happy face, but what happened to Basilbloom rattled him to his core. He glanced at the elder’s den, sighed, and turned to face the herb stores again.
It was lonely here, he remarked. He didn’t know if he should take on an apprentice; how could he teach as well as Basilbloom did? ShadowClan would live until the moon shattered, he was convinced of it.
After making piles, he glanced over at the warrior apprentice’s den. He sometimes envied his brother for walking a path as a warrior, it just seemed like a less stressful existence. They had their struggles as well, and he didn’t presume to know all of them. But he could wonder.
The fluffy brown tabby glanced out of his den. It was about to be daybreak.
He sorted enough traveling herbs for two, then made his way to the apprentice’s den.
“Leafpaw, it’s time to get up. We’re going to the Moonstone today.”
He smiled a little as the sun came out. Basilbloom wouldn’t want him to live in the past like this, worry about her like this. It was the passing of time, something he had to accept.
“I got these ready for us. It will help us make the journey.”
“Are you ready? Let’s go.”
