Batsong's Medicine Cat Ceremony

Shrikestar stood up and stretched, heading out into the clearing. He called to Batsong, who he saw standing a short distance away. "Hello Batsong," he greeted with a pleasant meow. "Are you ready to go to the Moonstone?" It felt strange to say that his former apprentice was becoming a medicine cat apprentice, but then again, he'd dealt with the same thing with his own mentor, so it was some sort of deja vu.

Batsong stood and nodded.  She eagerly walked over to him.  Her former mentor was now the leader and she had so much respect for him.  He had taught her everything and now he would be the one to officially take her to the moonstone to become the clans next medicine cat apprentice.  She was so excited.  They shy molly always wondered if med cat would be a good fit for her.  She liked the idea of helping her clanmates heal and she didnt enjoy fighting as much as she thought a warrior should.  She would if she had to but it would be interesting becoming a med cat and not have to worry as much about such things.  She still had all her skills and training of a warrior so if need be she was sure she could handle anything thrown at her.

"I am r-..ready" she meowed pleasantly back.  She followed him out of the clan camp and towards the moonstone.

As she walked with him she stayed mostly quiet as was usual for her.  She was quiet, shy , reserved.

She did however ask him a couple questions as they walked to their destination.


"H-how are you liking b-being leader so far? ... Is it m--more used to n-now?" she asked quietly and gently.  She trusted her mentor and leader so much and knew he was doing a good job with it.  She just hoped he was enjoying his new position and that nothing felt overwealming.

She could understand if he did feel that way : overwealmed ... she fealt a bit that way herself.  She knew the basics of herbs ... she had gone on herb hunts with Dovefrost back when she was a kit and the TC med cat had helped WC during their time of need, and again with burningleaf.  But she knew she had alot to learn she was sure.

The two of them walked to the Moonstone in mostly silence, though Shrikestar was happy to answer any of the questions Batsong had to ask. "Being leader is both exciting and nerve-wracking," he admitted, his shoulders straight as he walked alongside his former apprentice. "It's a lot to have the entire clan's well-being on your shoulders, but I would do anything to protect this clan." They reached the Moonstone, heading inside to the giant crystal that awaited them. "Good luck, Batsong," he whispered, nudging her gently with his muzzle.

Batsong nodded listening quietly to him and purred softly "I know you w-will do well" she meowed encouragingly.

When they got to the stone she was hestant at first. She had not been here since apprenticeship so long ago it felt like. However, at the same time it felt recent too it was strange.


So much had happened since then and she felt like she had lost so much, was Starclan making the right decision to have her be the clans med cat? she self doubted a little.

Shrikestars encouragement helped immensly and she nodded in reply and touched her nose to the moonstone after laying down next to it.

Soon after she was in a deep starclan dream state passed out on the floor of the mooncave.

Looking around the dreamy landscape she saw a starclan cat off in the distance. It was too far off to see clearly who it was. Taking a deep breath and trying to figure out what she would say she walked towards whoever it was.


As she got closer the scent of her adoptive mother Swiftspirit hit her and she stopped mid stride. Tears welled up in her eyes but she blinked them away, she was never good at dealing or showing emotions but it was all she could do to keep moving forward to the starclan cat who she now knew the identiy of.


Finally she reached Swiftspirit. She opened her mouth to say something... anything. But her voice betrayed her at all the worst times it seemed.

Cursing herself silently that she couldnt speak. All she could do was nuzzle Swiftsprit's shoulder with her muzzle.

She missed her so much and now she was standing here before Batsong as if they were reunited once again. Swiftspirit's pelt was full of stars and Batsong was barely able to keep herself composed at all.

She sat next to her and for a long while she stared out at the dreamy landscape and beauty of starclan.

After what felt like a long time of nothing said she finally was able to say something at least.

"m..mom I --- I m-miss you so m-mmu she wasnt able to finish.

She felt like a failure... she hadnt been able to save Swiftspirit or Mistysky from the dark forest. And specklepaw (Mistyskys daughter) sacrificed herself to bring starclan back. Batsong couldnt even protect her half siblings it appeared.

Brackenwing she tried to keep an eye on but it felt like anyone close to her got hurt. Why had starclan picked her to be the medicine cat? She wondered closing her eyes. I will just mess that up too. She thought negativly filled with self doubt.

If there was one thing Swiftspirit could enjoy about the starry landscape, it was that she could run. Her paws flew across the starlit flower fields with ease as she headed toward the dark-furred she-cat that had just appeared, slowing to a trot as the newly-named medicine cat apprentice lifted her head. It still felt strange to be meeting cats here, and more than anything Swiftspirit wished that she could still walk among the living.

"Hello, Batsong," Swiftspirit purred a greeting, trotting forward to affectionately nudge Batsong's shoulder. "I've missed you too, kiddo." She mewed, pulling back to look over the dark-furred she-cat. "Medicine cat, hmm? I think you'll do better than even you know, Batsong. Cats get hurt, it's inevitable. Our clan needs someone compassionate and diligent to care for and look out for them."

Batsong gave a little nod at her kind words. She needed that alot. She would have given anything for Swiftspirit to come back to camp with her. Knowing that would not happen she tried to focus on the moments she got here.

She rested her head on Swiftspirits shoulder and sighed. She felt so lost right now. She had no idea what she was doing... she knew some basics of medicine from various herb hunts ... one of the herb hunts was where she actually met Swiftspirit back when she was Batkit. The memory brought a bittersweet and she forced herself back to the present.

But to be a full on med cat?? She felt like she was moons behind even though she just got the position.

"I w-w...will do my best" she meowed quietly in a promise.


She sat with her mother for along time. Swiftspirits presence alone comforted her and she knew that she would not get many opportunities like this again.
