Father and Daughter bonding

Deerpaw padded silently behind Duskflight, looking at everything but in front of her. the silence was awkward between the two. they had been close when deerpaw was a kit, but the she-cat's excessive training had led to almost no time spent between the two. no longer able to stand the silence, deerpaw said, "Congratulations on getting your first litter soon!" gosh, what was she saying? way to go, deerpaw.

stopping suddenly, the white she-cat's head shriveled to her left. amber eyes glowing, she slowly stalked towards a pigeon. it would make a good meal for elders. a foxlength from the bird, deerpaw leaped in the air. the pigeon tried flying away in huge flaps of it's wings, but the apprentice's claw sagged a wing and send the bird down to the ground. deerpaw gave a sharp nip to it's neck and the thrashing bird fell limp.

Her voice broke the silence, and he nearly flinched, least expecting the sudden sentence out of all. Wait.. she knew? Was it that obvious? The tom felt his face flush, and his ears grew warm with both pride— and slight embarrassment. Though, he was glad Ivycreek had trusted him enough to- erm, decide to have a litter with him, out of all expected events. He was going to be a father soon, though, and he wanted to be prepared. "Thanks, Deerpaw," He smiled at the young she-cat. She was going to have siblings soon— and even if they weren't exactly genetically connected, he assured himself things would turn out fine.. hopefully.

Though with an abrupt stop, his ears perked, and eyes followed the she-cat's actions. A pigeon. Skillfully, the apprentice quickly caught the prey in her jaws, and the tom offered her a warm purr of pride. "Swiftheart certainly taught you well, Deerpaw. I might stop by to give her thanks one day," He chuckled, "That was a skilled catch, I'm impressed!" Perhaps it was their alikeness of pelt that made an advantage in Leaf-bare. As difficult as it might've been for the other seasons, this one just seemed to advantage light-pelted cats the most. His pelt visibly stood out in the snow, though. It was more difficult for him. Suddenly hearing a ruffling of wings, his ears immediately swiveled to the left, eyes cautiously scanning the clearing.

Then, his eyes spotted the creature. A pure black crow, especially standing out, much like himself in the snow. The tom instinctively fell into a crouch, approaching the creature with careful steps.. and finally, made his pounce. Oblivious to what mistake he did wrong, the bird cawed loudly, leaving him stumbling back in caution. Then, an annoying screech, one that left a too unforgettable scar to easily forget. A raccoon. 'Stay especially careful, Deerpaw! That's a raccoon. A bite of it is lethal, and trust me, you do not want to be swiped by it, either. Aim for its eyes and ears, though be careful!" As quick as he warned her, the bushy tail soon appeared, and it lunged for him. A sharp jolt of pain added to his shoulder scar, though he was only lucky enough to avoid it hitting the eyes. He hissed, bracing himself to leap up to the predator. His claws dug into the creature's skin, and he held it down, giving Deerpaw a firm nod to attack.

Duskflight attempted to catch Crow (Bird), using 7 SP. It was Unsuccessful, and spawned a predator instead!
Raccoon appeared! Raccoon used Quick Swipe, dealing 8 damage and using 10 SP.

Deerpaw purred at her father's compliments. It was relaxing, hunting with him. watching him fail to catch a crow, she almost purred until she caught sight of the racoon. she froze in horror as it attacked Duskflight. the last time she had encountered this creature, it had gave her a scar down her shoulder. it was healing well, but she was still terrified. but she couldn't leave Duskflight here either.

Despite the horror showing in her eyes, Duskflight let out a relieved smile as Deerpaw overcame her fear; bravely jumping into battle as the creature showed itself beneath him. A similar scar to the one left on his cheek has been clear on her shoulder, and that alone made him understand she'd also faced the same predator before. Well, at least she wouldn't be harmed this time. There was just no way the tom would've let the creature near her if he didn't know she couldn't handle it well— though she did, and for that, pride gleamed in his bright emerald eyes. Applying the last of pressure to the miserable creature underneath his paws, he felt it go limp. Giving the last sniff to make sure, his claws sheathed, and he gave a short purr as he got off the raccoon. Well, this was certainly easier than before. The last time he encountered one, it caused his multiple wounds. Only this time did he relatively.. easily defeat it, with the help of Deerpaw.

"It didn't harm you, did it, Deerpaw?" He asked, a hint of worry hidden beneath his tone despite knowing she was fine. He just.. wanted to make sure, still. "Let's continue hunting? I'm sure we still have enough energy left to go," He chuckled, "If you're willing to continue, I mean." Even if she hadn't, he still did, and he'd continue to help out the clan.. until another predator arrived; if one was smart enough to continue aiming for his daughter and him.

Then, his eyes locked on a nearby prey, hiding behind a small bush. It wasn't something he wasn't used to catching, though it was at least worth a try. With almost feather-like steps, Duskflight crept towards the squirrel, now waiting patiently before diving for his kill. With bits of bushy fur caught in his jaws, unfortunately, still no prey. Had prey disliked him that much in Leaf-bare?

Deerpaw shivered at the familiar dead corpse. like Duskflight, the last time she met this black and white creature she had sustained much more injuries. "we can continue, but look at your wound, wouldn't you want to give it a few licks first?" deerpaw fretted. it was quite deep and the white she-cat ran a few quick licks over it. the blood stung, but at least the wound was clean.

looking around, deerpaw soon noticed a vole. it wasn't big, but it would feed a hungry cat for some time. she dropped into a crouch and slowly stalked forward. once a fox length away, she darted forward and nipped it's spine. feeling it fall limp, she teased Duskflight, "That pelt must be so difficult to hide in snow. I have only missed two catches in the past moon!"

The number of injuries he'd earned the past few moons has gotten him to get used to them, although the raccoon one would've still been the most painful yet. As Deerpaw cleaned his wound, the tom gave her another soft purr in reply, nodding. "Thanks, Deerpaw," He mewed. Soon, he watched as the younger molly was able to swiftly catch another prey. Were his paws failing him, somehow? "Oh yes, it definitely is. Just wait until we get back to New-leaf, though! I'll make sure to make up the amount of prey I've lost in this season," He laughed, teasing her back. Though, he surely would need to. His catches have been coming in low, and though his pelt helped during other moons— it surely didn't benefit him now.

He crouched once again, spotting a rabbit nearby. What was it doing here? He wasn't sure. However, another try was still better than none. Emberleap had taught him that, after all. With outstretched paws, Duskflight leaped for the prey— only to quickly stumble back as his eyes caught a blur of motion. A snake, slithering right up to where the prey once was. Taken notice of both presences, the rabbit fled, leaving him sighing once again. "Oh no, I'm not going to let you steal my catch again!" He hissed at the creature, backing up to get some force, then made his attack— leaping over to the snake and bowling it over. Caught off guard, the creature stumbled underneath his claws, writhing as it tried to escape. He gave an apologetic smile to his daughter, then quickly looked back at the snake. Perhaps his luck was just this: predators.

Deerpaw nearly jumped of her fur when a snake came, but relaxed quickly when she remembered the fight she had with an adder not too long ago. they were easy to kill.

Again, as soon as the fight started— so did it end. The snake fell limp in her jaws, and he sighed relief as she immediately knew what to do. Has she faced the same predator before? Nonetheless, the tom frowned, disappointed how none of his attempts brought back prey.. and instead, predators. But hey, third time's the charm.. right? With a hopeful breath, he ventured deeper into The Pine Grove, hoping that changing the sceneries would bring more success at prey. At least, he should be able to catch one for the clan. They couldn't feed on.. er, predators every time, even in Leaf-bare. And yet, most 'catches' he brought back were only them, not mice, nor frogs. So, spotting a nearby rodent, Duskflight took his chance— and leaped. StarClan, please let me get this catch!

Aaand, again. His catch was replaced by the fangs of a predator— nearly the same one as before. Stars, was there a camp of predators here that he didn't know of? Frustrated and bitter with empty catches, he mindlessly aimed for the predator, teeth bared as he dove into its supposed neck. It screeched, pulling itself back before diving into his skin. The warrior hissed in pain, letting go of the predator, and took a step back. After all, he was just as exhausted from all the battles he's accidentally caused. "I'm horribly sorry, Deerpaw. After this, let's head back. We don't want too much attention," He regretfully mewed, both injured and exhausted from his accidental battles. More so, the apprentice shouldn't have been pulled into this mess, after all, it was his causing of it.
