The Snows of Leaf-bare [O]

Rules, please read before posting!:

Frostgaze wanted to conduct an exercise in stealth while in snow. Many of Shadowclan's members were of dark colors, with no white on them at all. They would not be able to hide how they normally could, so they would need to learn. This was an evaluation of such, and something entertaining for the younger members of the clan as well. Best to learn early. There was enough snow for most members to hide without being spotted, as long as they hid correctly. So when the participants had gathered, Frostgaze addressed them. "Greetings, this is an exercise focusing on improving your skills of hiding in environments that are unlike your fur color, or for those with white fur, an exercise in hiding in general. Those with white fur may have an advantage, but that is life. It is not fair, but do not worry, there is no reward for winning but the satisfaction that you have adequate skills. I will leave camp for a time and return. I will announce my return so that you will know I am coming. You may begin." With that, he turned tail and swiftly removed himself from the camp.

Even if the exercise was more geared towards apprentices and young warriors, Webshadow had been among the first to show up for it. It would do him good, practicing like this when his nearly-black pelt stuck out harshly against the drifts of white. Or maybe he only showed up because Frostgaze was in charge of the whole thing... Shrugging his shoulders, the tabby flicked an ear, listening quietly to Frostgaze's address.

With no time to offer a passing good luck, the deputy whisked away from his gathered crowd. Passing a look between the cats around him, Webshadow slowly rose to his paws, circling his way around camp. There was a spot, near the nursery, where the brambles guarding camp were thick. Folding his limbs under him, Webshadow settled in the snow, resisting the urge to leap away from the cold. He made an attempt to nose his way under the powder, but quickly decided that was both too cold and a bit pointless, so he settled on backing himself as close to the thorn wall as he could and preparing to wait.

Nightpaw may or may not be a little too invested in this game for a tom his age, but here he was. Nightpaw had a similar idea to Webshadow, as he pushed himself under the thorny barrier to hide the best he could in the dark, using his tail to brush the snow up and over his fur as if he was simply the terrain. He was only the ground and the barrier, no cat here to be spotted. Nuh-uh.

Spottedkit was fortunate enough to have at least a bit of white in her pelt, but she also had some brightly colored spots because her fur was calico. She knew this game of hide and seek would be fun, and didn't want to miss out. She decided to hide behind the large bramble bush where the warriors den was. She did her best to cover up her brightly colored spots with snow. As she was now hidden, she waited for the seeking to begin hoping she would not be spotted.

Cicadapaw never gave up on a chance to prove himself, and this seemed easy enough. He had been extremely disappointed when the snow came and forced him to relearn stealth, but he was a Shadowclan cat and hiding was in their blood. He had taken the time to practice while out hunting and he felt secure in his ability to thwart snow's tricks and hide among it.

The moment he was given the go-ahead, he rushed to claim what he thought was the best hiding spot. He followed the old trail of a queen heading into the nursery, his paws falling into the divots hers made before squeezing himself behind the den. The dappled shade from the bush helped blend his darker spots while burrowing a bit into the snow hid his lighter. Now, all he could do was wait.

Seeing cats gathering to participate in the exercise, Duskflight had no reason to decline. It'd be entertaining, and no less an activity for him to gain more experience as his pelt stood out in the snow. The tom made sure to finish hearing the introduction to the event, then nodded, quickly making his way over to a spot beside the warriors' den. His ears flattened down, and he crouched, making sure to stay close to the snow to not be found. He lightly burrowed himself further underneath the snow, using the nearby brambles to hide further away from being seen like how Cicadapaw have done. This was a good spot, as he wanted to make sure that he wouldn't be found so easily right away.

Swiftpaw eagerly joined the game, she found a nice patch of snow in a shadow in camp and curled up perfectly disguised, she tucked her tail in to hide the only nonwhite marking on her up.  She sat perfectly still so as the deputy would not see her.  It was an uncomfortable spot though as it was kinda cold and wet so she hoped frost would not take forever to count.

Frostgaze pushed through the snow, calling out to those hiding within. "I have returned, I do hope you have hidden by now." He waited a few moments more before entering the camp fully, looking out across the clearing. There were some... obvious pelts hiding in the white of the snow. Quickly, he moved through, beginning to tap those who were out.

He spotted Webshadow first, unfortunately for him. A whispered, "You should hide under the snow, instead of just next to something..." and a short huff of laughter came from the deputy as he bopped Webshadow's head. Next was the pelt of Spottedkit, one of the kits who had decided to join in. He had hoped that smaller cats would get the hang of it quicker, but to no avail. A quick tap on the back is what he gave her as he moved through. Then the obvious black and ginger of Cicadapaw's pelt. He had hidden too close to the snow, though the bush was a good try. He looked at the apprentice through the bush, eyes locking with the apprentice's. "I don't know if I can get under there... but you are found Cicadapaw." Nearby was Duskflight's form, hiding almost entirely under the snow. A valiant attempt... if he couldn't see the uncovered portions of his back at least. He tapped gently on a small, uncovered portion before moving on.

A final look around told him he could see no more cats, and he announced his departure. "Those who were not found, you may hide again, or reinforce your own position. I am now leaving." With that, he crouched through the camp entrance, leaving those who were left to hide themselves again.
