Breezekit’s Apprentice Ceremony

“Let all cats old enough to run the moor gather under the Tallrock for a Clan meeting!” It was later in the evening. Goldenfang had needed a decent rest before starting this ceremony, and though her bones were still weary, her desire to prove her dedication to WindClan and her hunger for returning to normal life drove her to the base of the Tallrock. The setting sun was shining its last warm rays down on the camp. At least the new apprentice wouldn’t have to wait too long to start training.

At the sound of the summons Breezekit’s ears flicked up to attention and she swiveled away from where she’d been wistfully watching the camp entrance. Of course she wasn’t planning another ‘escape attempt’ (Hentooth had warned her enough times how one more try would result in her apprenticeship being delayed) yet the kit could still barely resist the itch to get out of camp and see what lay beyond.

But if Goldenfang was gathering the clan… that might mean it was finally time for her ceremony! Quick as her name would imply, Breezekit trotted towards the Tall Rock to stare eagerly at the deputy. She tried not to be too hopeful, to have patience and not just assume her ceremony was about to happen as she had been disappointed by so many times before, but already her thoughts were racing. Is it finally time?? Oh please, please let it be my turn, I can’t wait any longer!

“Breezekit, step forward. You’ve reached the age of six moons and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you’ve earned your warrior name, you will be called Breezepaw. Your mentor will be Silverlight.” The deputy announced, beaming at her mate. He’s so right by Breezepaw, she just knew it.

Yes yes yes! Breezekit- no, Breezepaw grinned hugely, barely able to stop herself from breaking into an overjoyed skip as she did as Goldenfang told and stepped forwards. Her apprentice ceremony was finally happening! Soon she would be able to train and hunt and fight alongside the rest of the clan! And best of all, she would get to explore the whole territory! Already the young cat was imagining racing over the hills and through the heather, chasing a hare or running just because she could. But first, she had to get to the end of the ceremony.
