Silent Cry [Closed]

How many days had it been? How many nights have passed sense then... First his family.. Then his mate.. and recently one of his daughters? Was this all even worth it? The clan was hurting because of him.. His mate gone because of him.. His daughter... He didn't even try to protect her.. Didn't do anything.. And Cheetahdawn.. Oh stars.. He couldn't even be there for her either.. Not even to help her grieve in the right way.. He couldn't fault her for what she did, but the sight of it.. Stars the sight broke him completely..

The black tom laid in his nest. A glimmer of light slipping through the opening from the nearly full moon above but he couldn't bring himself to step out of his nest.. Let alone the den. He was skinnier than usual from his own refusal to eat. He didn't feel like it. He didn't feel like doing much of anything. Silently he hoped that a hole would open up in the ground and he would be gone too.. So he didn't have to deal with this pain anymore.. Maybe.. Maybe if he turned himself over to his family they would do the deed, and Shadowclan would be safe.. At least he would be doing something useful with his last bit of time..

Mistyfalcon slid back into the warrior's den, picking his way toward Batglow's nest. His friend looked... about as Mistyfalcon expected, which wasn't much different to how Mistyfalcon felt at the moment. He had to at least try to get Batglow out of his nest, despite everything. He was grieving, so was Mistyfalcon... And he didn't want to lose yet another clanmate.

"Bat," Mistyfalcon lightly prodded him with a paw, eyes narrowing at just how thing Batglow had gotten. "Come on, we're going hunting." If he refused... Mistyfalcon didn't know. Murkystrike was better at this than he was, but he had to make the attempt.

Maybe if he got the tom out to hunt it would make him realize how hungry he must've been.

Murkystrike had been laying in the nest she shared with Mistyfalcon, curled tightly in on herself. Those not looking closely would think she was sleeping, but she lay awake and mourning. Part of her knew that Batglow was doing the same not far away, and a pawful of times she had thought to go join him as they mourned together. Patrols had been assigned, and she was set to go on a border patrol later in the night... Pawsteps interrupted her thoughts and she opened her eyes slightly to see Mistyfalcon. For a heartbeat she thought he was coming to her, but he went to Batglow's nest instead, prodding him with a paw and telling him they were hunting. Murkystrike hesitated before rising to her paws, moss falling from her pelt as she padded up to join her mate. Lowering her head, she touched her nose to Batglow's shoulder gently. "Misty's right, Bat. We're going hunting."

Batglow let out a groan as he was nudged about going hunting. He didn't feel like it at all. Patrolling.. running into his family was the last thing on his mind. He was about to speak up and reject the offer of hunting when Murkystrike stood and told him to come along as well. He opened his dull eyes shakily getting to his paws. "... Fine.." He spoke grimly. "Lead the way.."

Mistyfalcon gently pressed against Murkystrike's side in greeting as she rose from her nest to join them. He worried about her, especially after how much had been lost recently, and he was glad that she'd decided to join them.

He offered Batglow a tight smile that was more of a grimace before turning to lead the pair out of camp. Batglow... didn't look okay. Though Mistyfalcon supposed that none of them really were. That he hadn't needed to drag Batglow out of his nest was a promising sign though, so he turned to lead the pair out of camp. The night air had a chill to it, signaling that greenleaf was finally nearing an end. His jaws parted slightly, seeking both signs of prey and signs of the ever-present rogues, and the ever-present tension in his shoulders eased only slightly at not finding fresh rogue scent fouling the territory.

Murkystrike smiled ever so slightly, though it was certainly forced, as Batglow rose and joined them. She pressed against Mistyfalcon in return before doing the same to Batglow as they stepped out of the den. The air had a chill, and Murkystrike was grateful for her long, thick fur as she shook it out, letting it remain poofed out to keep her warm. As they left the safety of camp, she kept an eye, ear, and nose out for signs of prey and rogues alike, eyes narrowing slightly as Mistyfalcon did the same. She had been mourning the loss of Condorpaw, and while she had the rogues had gotten even worse. What would happen next? That they had to be so defensive, on their own territory no less, rubbed her the wrong way. The day would come where she would feel her claws cut through the pelts of everyone of those cowardly, flea-ridden crowfood eaters... But tonight she wanted to focus on healing Batglow and Mistyfalcon... And herself.

Batglow wasn't sure how he felt about the silence. If he wanted to sit in silence he would have remained in camp.. It honestly bothered him.. but everything seemed to bother him these days.. Little things irritated him. A clanmate's tail tip flicking against the ground.. Leaves falling on top of his head.. It didn't really matter it found a way to get on his nerves.

Though some of it melted away as Murkystrike pressed into his side. The small comfort of her bring some ease to his mind, while it wasn't perfect, it relaxed him a bit. Made him not nearly tremble as much as he stood. Hopefully he could hunt well.. Though he didn't think he would be able to catch anything with the way he was.

A small frog caught his attention as they walked, he broke off for a second to attempt to catch it, hoping he retained some of his skills. It seemed he still had his hunting as he caught the frog.

Mistyfalcon lightly flicked Batglow with his tail as he passed him, then withdrew in search of prey. Hunting, he'd always found, was much easier than talking. He knew Batglow wasn't particularly thrilled with being dragged out here, and Murkystrike... He would've killed every last rogue for what they'd done and wouldn't bat an eye.

With a slight shake of his head, Mistyfalcon focused on his surroundings. The grass near the base of a pine tree swayed slightly more than it should've in the light breeze that ruffled his pelt, and his eyes narrowed as he dropped into a crouch. Mistyfalcon crept forward, leaping for the mouse and cutting off a feeble attempt at escape. It was quickly buried, and Mistyfalcon turned back to his clanmates. Batglow had caught a frog, it looked like, and the briefest flicker of a smile crossed his face. Batglow would be okay, eventually... They all would.

The silence dragged on, and Murkystrike soon found herself somewhat alone, Batglow having broken off briefly after a frog and Mistyfalcon stalking a mouse. The moment their eyes were off of her she seemed to sink into herself, shoulders hunching as she took a shuddering breath. What had Condorpaw been thinking, when he went out alone? What were his final thoughts? Did he know how much she loved him? Tears threatened her vision as the quiet rustling of grass signaled Mistyfalcon's success. Forcing one paw in front of the other, she tried to blink her vision clear. She didn't see so much as hear the nearby rustling of grass, and she instinctively pounced on the creature hidden among the tall grass. Her jaws met the flesh of a toad, and she quickly killed it before straightening and turning back to her mate and dear friend. She hardly even noticed the tears streaming into the fur at her cheeks as she made her way to meet them, desperately holding in the sob that was attempting to escape her throat.

Batglow looked back to his friends to see that they had also broken off from each other to catch their own prey. Dull yellow green eyes scanned his surroundings.. Moonshine.. Pantherpaw.. How he wished they were here... Did Cheetahdawn even know he loved her? He cared for her but lately.. He was failing as a father.. He was failing as a clan cat.. He couldn't even be bothered to step out of his nest, his family was attacking his clan, but he couldn't do anything about it.. There was one way.. but was that the answer?

He pushed himself to his paws after taking a moment. Maybe that was the answer.. If it meant his friends and remaining family was safe.. then he should do it. He trudged along not really bothered by the mud like he was sometimes. He found a rat along the way and went for it. As soon as he splashed down in the mud, failing to catch the rat, the tom lifted his head. Smelling familiar scents.. Oh no.. Oh stars no. Not here. A few tail lengths away in front of him stood two rogues. They were his mother's weren't they? He didn't like this, fear gripped his heart like a tight vice.

Returning to the group, Mistyfalcon was immediately concerned to see the tears in Murkystrike's eyes. Padding forward, he pressed against her, tail curling over her flank to pull her close. [color:2948=##1944c1]"I'm sorry, Murkystrike." It tore at him to see her in such pain like this, knowing there was very little he could do about it. All he wanted to do was curl up with Murkystrike in their nest... And maybe sink his fangs into the rogues that had caused them so much pain. (The fox was already dead, but he would've happily killed it again, though he knew it wouldn't bring back Condorpaw.)

Movement nearby had his fur bristling suddenly, and Mistyfalcon looked up to see two filthy rogues approaching Batglow. His eyes narrowed into slits as fury bubbled in his chest. Neither were rogues he recognized, but they must have been a part of Vea's group that had been stalking the clan for moons now. Part of the group that had killed and endangered his clanmates and family, time after time.

And now they were looking at Batglow. Because of course that was who they wanted. A low growl started in Mistyfalcon's chest, though the sound didn't travel. Silently, he slipped from Murkystrike's side, circling behind the rogues in determined silence. He lunged towards the rogue closest to him, wanting nothing more than to feel the rogue's flesh give beneath his claws.

Mistyfalcon used Jumping Strike on Berry for -7 sp, dealing -9+3 damage.
