Testy Hunting [C]

Frostpaw had gotten himself up, and promptly made his way to the entrance of Shadowclan's camp. It was early, at least for Shadowclan, and he was ready to provide for the clan. Not before he cleaned his fur off, of course, but no one else had arrived to go off to the patrol yet. A gentle breeze ruffled his fur, causing him to smooth it again every few moments or so. His leg was sore from his previous encounter with a fox, when he and Burningpaw had gone hunting on their own, but not sore enough he couldn't hunt. The wound had been superficial, and had healed without incident. He was fortunate that he had leaped when he did, nothing more. And so Frostpaw waited for the patrol, as the sky darkened further, and knew that the time they would leave would be upon him soon enough.

When the rest of the cats had arrived, he had fallen into step, making his way out of the camp into the Pine Grove beyond. The shadows only got darker as they moved, and Frostpaw couldn't help but watch closer than he normally would. There could be rogues on their territory, nobody was safe. Finding them before they found his clanmates was beneficial to his cause.

Shira eyes scanned that territory that was lit by the setting sun.  She had woke a while ago, but didn't really care enough to get up.  She liked to sit alone with her thoughts when she would first wake up.  There was no one bothering her or anything, she could just relax.  Eventually, she willed herself up.  She knew she was going on a patrol today, but didn't much care with who.  She walked out of the warriors den, her fur messy from sleeping on it, but she didn't really care.

She met up with someone familiar from a day of training.  "Hello," she said, her naturally cold voice showing through because it was too early for her to change it.  "There is one more cat joining us, correct?"

"Yeah," a grumbling voice agreed as Webshadow padded up to join the two cats. His ears were laying flat, and his usual scowl had deepened into a more serious grimace. His neck still ached from where the raccoon had gotten him, he was still reeling from the training incident with Pantherpaw and Cheetahpaw, and there were still rogues crawling all over, so he remained confined to camp. He gave the apprentice a withered look, trying to remember which of them it was, and roughly bumped Shira's head with his own before leading the way out of camp without another word.

It was quiet as they marched to the Pine Grove, both from the patrol themselves and from the cats stalking somewhere around their territory claiming lives. "Let's just... get this over with.  The sooner we catch something, the sooner we get back." He wasn't eager to run back to crowded, noisy camp, exactly, but he wasn't keen on getting ripped apart, either. Scenting the air, he caught wind of a lizard, and turned himself in the direction of it. Dropping low, he crept forward until it came into view, waiting just a moment before he pounced forward with a flicking tail.

Of course, the little thing raised its wedged head a moment before Webshadow's claws would have claimed it, and it darted somewhere far out of sight. Watching it go, he snorted sharply and turned back to the others, whiskers twitching.

Webshadow attempted to catch a lizard. Attempt failed.

"Yes, there's another to be joining us." Frostpaw threw these words over his shoulder at his mentor, only then seeing the approaching form of Webshadow. He noted the look he was given, Webshadow had never spoken to him before. He probably didn't know him, that was alright. The only reason he knew Webshadow's name was simple hearsay. Watching and listening had its perks.

It didn't take long for Frostpaw to split from the group, following the scent of a frog in the dead pine needles that had fallen from moons prior. His white fur had no consequence then, when the frog could not see. Yet it could feel, and Frostpaw kept his steps light, allowing himself to get close. Suddenly, he pounced, becoming only a flash of white in the night, face emerging with a frog struggling in his jaws. He bit harder, killing it with a crunch. He rushed to bury it and move on, no reason to be out for longer than necessary.

Frostpaw caught a frog, using the +2 to hunting rolls in the Pine Grove, and using 3 stamina!

Shira turned at her kits voice when she heard it.  "Hi, Webshadow," she said kindly when he lightly bumped heads with her.  She worried for Webshadow, his expression was different, more serious and she didn't really like that.  Not that it was better than her normal expression of anger and irritation, but still Shira worried for him.

She walked with the others and broke off from the group not long after Frostpaw.  She smelled a hare.  She began to get low and walked closer to it, trying to be as quiet as possible.  Unfortunately, the hare heard her and ran off.  She tried to chase after it, but it quickly got away.  She went back to Webshadow.  She looked at him with concern in her eyes.  "Is everything okay?"  She asked.

Webshadow watched the other two, nodding towards Frostpaw for his catch before turning to Shira. "I'm... I'm tired. You know I don't like being in camp too long." His tail flicked, and he lowered his head almost sheepishly. "But Flintstar says we can't leave alone, and I don't want to get attacked, either." A noncommittal shrug and he turned away, parting his jaws to breathe in deep.

The scent of a mouse hit him, and he caught the twitching of its little ears. Falling easily into the crouch, he stalked forward, making sure every pawstep was careful and quiet. He would not miss again. He shot forward, and thankfully, claws met soft fur. It gave a little squeak, and Webshadow gave its neck a quick nip before lifting it by the tail. He carried it over to the group, briefly uncovering Frostpaw's frog to drop it in the same hole before smoothing the dirt back over.

'Hunting Dice' : 5

"Getting attacked would do Shadowclan no good. Yet we still need to catch prey, an unfortunate circumstance. Thankfully, with three of us, the chances of getting attacked should go down, at least, if the rogues use their heads." Frostpaw knew this wasn't entirely true. If the rogues were organized, they could easily match their number if they were planning to assault a patrol. Nevertheless, the assumption that this was a largely unorganized event was a safe bet, for now.

Frostpaw disappeared once more, on the hunt for a lizard this time. He saw the skinny tail of one rocketing toward him, thankfully the wind was in his favor, and his pelt was mostly hidden in the shade of the trees. He readied himself to pounce, and did so as the lizard went past him, landing squarely on it, and breaking its neck quickly. He returned to his hole, dropping the prey in, and rejoining the patrol.

Shira nodded to Webshadow.  "I know.  I hate having to stay in camp for a while.  If you ever want to just walk around the territory near the camp entrance, let me know and I can come with you.  I won't bother you too much, but I think you know that."  Shira also nodded in agreement to what Frostpaw said.  The rogues probably didn't have enough of a brain to actually plan something around just the three cats hunting, Shira assumed.

Shira saw a rat running out from a bush and quickly went away from the group to try to catch it.  Soon, it blended unto the surroundings and got away.  Shira stomped her paw on the ground, which sent up some wet mud that hit her fur.  She hated that.  Angrily, she walked back and joined the others again.
