An Elder and a Bunch of Troublemakers

Mossbloom had been thrilled when she had been approached about accompanying Spiderquill.... Or Dennis, she supposed he preferred now. She took the opportunity to bring Dovefrost along, giving Daisybloom a well-deserved break. She happened to see a SkyClan patrol during one of her walks, and took the chance to ask for Beechface as well. There had certainly been tension at the Gathering, but perhaps... Perhaps she could help ease even a little bit of it. Besides, she missed them. All of them. So she had set out from ThunderClan's camp with Dovefrost behind her, making her way towards the corner of ThunderClan's territory that met the river, RiverClan's territory, and SkyClan's. There she waited for Spid- no, Dennis she reminded herself firmly, and Beechface. The bright newleaf sunlight and warm breeze promised good fortune.

Dennis limped through RiverClan's territory, taking in the sights and sounds of the forest uninterrupted by a tailing warrior. He appreciated the company, he really did, but there was only so many times one could awkwardly smile at a clearly inconvenienced warrior in complete silence until things got old. He was without a chaperone for just this outing thanks to Mossbloom, who'd graciously accepted his request to go herb hunting. Well, the request made on his behalf. Ivystar didn't really want him wandering over to ThunderClan on his own.

He smiled at Mossbloom when he finally made it to where she was waiting. He had had a recent breakthrough with his memories, that being the reason he'd wanted to go on this herb hunt in the first place, and he was genuinely happy to see her. He just hoped, selfish as it was, that she wasn't angry at him for lying.

"Mossbloom! it's good to see you." There was a second cat there and he froze for a moment. He didn't recognise him. His eyes shot around the surroundings, looking for an escape route for an erratic moment of panic, but his nerves calmed as quickly as they'd flared up when he saw how comfortable the elder was with this newcomer. Dennis nodded respectfully to him, hoping he wouldn't eat him. he seemed big enough for it, anyway. "I- I'm Dennis. I take it you're a warrior? You l-look the part, anyway. Um." He turned away awkwardly. Right. Herbs.

He sniffed around him like he'd been taught by Mistleshine (he whooped internally at remembering her), trying to catch a scent like a warrior would that of a mouse. Half a minute and he came up with nothing. Right, time for plan B. He looked around, big eyes scanning the area for the glimmer of dew on herb leaves or the bright colours of flowers. Eventually his eyes landed on something that was neither of the two: cobwebs. He was partial to cobwebs, and he whispered a little "yay" as he gathered them up in his paws. He decided on a little spot by a particularly shiny rock to put his herbs. Shiny rocks were like a RiverClan staple, right?

When Birdsong had told Beechface that 'some calico Thunderclanner' had asked for her, Beechface had initially grumbled. She wasn't in the mood to talk with anyone lately, and had been struggling not to snap at her own clanmates. Between the gathering, Copperfox dying, her parents... Dawnhawk was still out there and had forced Smokefeather into an early retirement. She hadn't taken it particularly well, and neither had Beechface. She just hoped that Bloodstrike found Dawnhawk and ended him sooner rather than later.

Beechface had made her way toward the river with a sigh, footfalls heavy against the forest floor.. It was clear that the past few moons had been draining, mentally and emotionally and physically. Still, it would be good to see Mossbloom again. Maybe the elder could offer advice, because stars knew Beechface was floundering on her own.

"Mossbloom, it's good to see you again." Beechface mewed as she approached. A nod to the white tom that she hadn't caught the name of, Daisybloom had found an apprentice, or that's what she remembered hearing. And then Beechface frowned, catching sight of the scrawny little Riverclanner. Her ears flicked back, lip curling in distaste.

Beechface had nothing nice to say to him. He'd lied to her face about her own sister, and then fled the gathering like a coward. With a huff, she turned away, intending to head in the opposite direction as he was to search for herbs.

At least the whiny Windclanner wasn't around to poke her nose where it didn't belong. It was a small thing, but Beechface would take it.

Beechface's tail flicked as she walked along the riverbank, a plant with thin, spiky leaves catching her eyes. Fennel, which would be useful for the elders at least. Carefully she began to harvest the plant, setting her find on a dry slightly raised bundle of rocks.

Dovefrost didn't mind going out with the Elder. In fact he liked spending time with the elder. While she had been the one to train his mentor, they had different opinions on things. It was good to hear both sides. So when she had invited him out for an herb patrol along with a Riverclanner and a Skyclanner, he didn't tell her no. The large white fluffy tom however remained silent on the journey to the border, finding comfort in the silence. Though it didn't last long when the other two finally showed up.

"Not a warrior, Daisybloom's apprentice." He spoke, his voice coming out in a rumble. "Name's Dovefrost." He said, his green eyes shortly flicking over to the other medicine cat as she arrived. He could tell that there was tension in the air, but he didn't comment on it. Instead he turned away to do his own hunting for herbs. Sticking close by Mossbloom so nothing bad would happen to her in case something showed up.

A yellow flower caught his eye, and quickly he made his way over to it. Coltsfoot. He would take it. Carefully and slowly he harvested the plant. He wasn't as efficient as the others, he knew that but he was still going to get the job done. As he was making sure the herbs was safe, he glanced back to Mossbloom. Was this really just a herb hunt for all of them?

Dennis arrived first, and Mossbloom smiled as he made his way towards them. "It's good to see you as well, Dennis! I'm glad you're doing well today." She watched as he turned his focus to the task at paw, and settled in to wait for Beechface. The she-cat didn't keep her waiting long, and soon the large SkyClan medicine cat was approaching. Mossbloom rose to greet her with a grin. "Hi, Beechface! It's good to see you as well." She wasn't surprised by the huff that accompanied the she-cat's realization that Dennis was present as well, and while Mossbloom didn't particularly blame her, she hoped that over the course of the day and in the future they could at least start to mend the trust that had been broken by the RiverClan cat's lie. Dovefrost also stepped away, searching for herbs close by. Settling in a nice sunny spot, the elder lay on the ground and kept an eye on the younger medicine cats. The walk had been a long one, and though she had recently made the journey to Highstones she was still not used to this much traveling.
