The Taste of Fresh Air [CLOSED]

Shimmerdust eyed two of the clan's newest Apprentices, Mountainpaw and Sneezingpaw. They were, well, huge. By the time they grew, they might actually cover the whole camp just by themselves. Mountainpaw had a ton of what Shimmerdust was quite sure was fat, while Sneezingpaw had a lot of fluff.

They may not be ideal, but Shimmerdust did need cats to accompany her off on a patrol anyways. So, she cleared her throat, finding awkwardness bubbling uncomfortably in her chest. She was back to not liking to speak up to converse. Then again, with the Asylum being gone only so recently it was probably best to operate in groups.

"Mountainpaw, Sneezingpaw, do you want to come hunt with me?"

OOC: I'm so so so sorry about how late this is!

Mountainpaw was happily digging into a rather large trout she'd found in the fresh-kill pile, taking indiscriminate bites out of the slippery prey. So slippery, in fact, that she had to hold it down with both gargantuan paws to stop it flopping away from her. She looked up at her name being called, bits of trout still hanging from her jaws. The cat talking to her was... Shiny...dirt? Something like that. She would have to ask later. For now, though, she was entirely preoccupied with joy at the suggestion of hunting. Finally! She was big enough to go hunt! She'd never hunted before. Sounded like fun though! She nudged her sister with her stubby nose. "Sneezingpaw! D'you wanna go?" Her eyes were wide and pleading, though she knew that Sneezingpaw probably wouldn't need much convincing. Still though, she waited for her sister to confirm before getting up and plodding over to the warrior. "Hello! I would like to go hunting. Is it fun? Hunting?" She beamed at the older cat, oblivious of her discomfort.

Ic: Sneezingpaw was up in a heartbeat. "!! Yes, yes, yes!! I'd love to, Dustshimmer! Do y'know that water isn't slimy? Oh wait, you probab'y do, you're a warrior aft'r all!" She bumbled happily, prancing after Shimmerdust like a little foal. "How'd'ya fish? Moms is takin' us out tomorr'w, D'ya jump in the water and swim aroun' like a little fishy? Or d'ya stick your head und'r the water?" She asked, peering up at Shimmerdust with her large green eyes.

"I'm planning on going to Sunningrocks." Shimmerdust explained. "I heard it's a really good fishing spot, and you know what some say about fishing. It's one of the easiest things to do as a RiverClan cat." She lead the way out of the camp, relishing in the fact that she no longer had to look around anxiously to see if a Guard was with her.

They made their way to the Sunningrocks, and Shimmerdust went to crouch at the edge of the river. She peered into it intently as fish swam by, careful to make sure her shadow didn't disturb the fish. And, with little warning, she struck out. With a splash, she lifted her paw, claws extended. A small fish was attached to the end of her claw. Quickly, she dropped it on the ground.

Mountainpaw watched in utter awe as Shimmerdust caught a fish with minimal effort. How did she do that?? And so easily! Was hunting really that easy? Or maybe Shimmerdust was just really talented. It was probably the second one. Warriors were usually talented. Wait, if all warriors were talented, was that still a talent? She didn't really know what a talent was, which complicated that question just a tad.

Wait, what was she doing?

"OH! Fish!" She exclaimed out loud, though she had meant to say it inside her head. It was easy to confuse the two. She looked over at her sister. "Betcha I can catch more fish than you!" She plopped herself into a sitting position and hovered her paw over the surface of the water, claws out. She spotted a small silver shape. A fish! It had to be! She excitedly plunged her paw into the water, but her paw pad brushed against the fish for only a split second before the little creature darted away. She frowned. "I don't think the fish like me." She tried again, to no avail. How was she supposed to catch the fish if she couldn't even see them properly?

Then, a light suddenly flicked on inside her head (the most illumination that noggin had seen in a good moon). She could just catch the fish right in her mouth! Then she wouldn't have to guess where the fish was, if she opened her eyes underwater! Grinning at her own perceived genius, she took a big gulping breath before plunging her entire head into the water with a loud splash. her huge eyes opened underwater, giving her a blurry but doable view of the fish. They had been scared off by the splash, but she patiently waited with her jaws wide open until one slightly bigger, clearly stupider fish came close. Her jaws closed with a snap like a turtle's and she reared her head out of the water, tossing the fish about a foot in the air. Taking in huge gasps of air, she turned to Sneezingpaw once again. "One- huff- fish for- gasp- me!"

"I'm sure the fishies like you, Menace! Everyone likes you. Only a real awful cat wouldn' like you!" Sneezingpaw assured her, bumping her sister's shoulder with enthusiasm. She watched Shimmerdust as she expertly caught a fish. "Wowie! That was so-- sniff-- cool!" She exclaimed, and watched as Mountainpaw dunked her entire head into the water, coming up a minute later with a fish. "WOAH MINI MENACE THAT WAS SO COOL!!"

Determined not to be outdone, Sneezingpaw plopped down on her haunches at the edge of the river, peering down into the water, her 'serious' face (in truth it was her normal face with her eyes squinted) on. It took a moment, but a pike (or was it called a spike?) Swam by, and Sneezingpaw used both her front paws to clap the fish and trap it between her paws. Blinking, she laughed as the fish's tail started doing weird backwardy maneuvers. What a silly fish! Picking it up, she placed it on land and then promptly places two paws on it. "Dustyshine! Lookie! I catch a fishy!"

Sneezingpaw caught a fish and it COST THREE SP.

Shimmerdust rolled her eyes at the Apprentices' shenanigans. At least they were catching fish, so that was good-but then again, fish are notoriously easy to catch. It was no big achievement to swipe one of those flailing long things out of the water, it usually only takes a swipe. She reached into the water again, aiming for another fish-

-And promptly almost screamed out loud as something chomped down on her front paw. There was a distinctive crunch sound as pain flooded her body, and yup, now Shimmerdust was screaming. She jerked her paw back violently as the creature shifted upwards. A large turtle, that was what the thing was. With her free paw, she lashed out at the turtle's exposed legs and neck.

A wild Turtle appeared! It used Gripping Bite on Shimmerdust, dealing 10 damage and costing 30 SP! First turn!
Shimmerdust used Belly Rake, dealing 14 damage and using 10 SP!

Mountainpaw watched, eyes wide and shining, as Sneezingpaw clapped under the water and caught a fish. That was even cooler than what Mountainpaw had done! "WOW! You're even better than me! And I'm pretty good, a caught a whole fish!" She grinned wide and began to take a big gulping breath in preparation for another catch-

But the air suddenly deflated from her chest as a shrill scream filled the air. She whirled around as fast as a lump like her reasonably could, coming face to face with Shimmerdust and a huge... scaley... thing. Like a lizard, but with a big rock stuck to it. Whatever it was, it had a nasty bite on it. Her claws unsheathed on instinct; she'd never actually fought something before and this was all new to her. Looking back at Sneezingpaw with a rare falter in her smile, she then ran over to Shimmerdust. Unsure what she could really do to help, she drew back a great meaty paw and bapped the creature on the head. Her claws caught the top of its head a little, though the scales didn't give much and only a couple beads of blood squeezed through.

Her eyes were wide as moons and she jumped forward, one paw in the air, confusion written all over her face. Was she supposed to hit it?? Kick it?? Bite it??? She'd never fought anything before! "Uhm, 'cuse me, Mr. Shell Snake... Thing .. Would you please let our friend go? I'm sure she didn' mean to upset you." Sneezingpaw mewed politely. However, when the... Thing's... Reaction was to continue biting Shimmerdust she frowned. "How rude of you, I even said please!"

She saw Mountainpaw bop it with her paw, and decided that was what she should do. She wasn't entirely sure what else to do, so hitting it seemed the best solution.
