Training Together [C]

Bloodstrike had taken on his own apprentice despite being at maybe 70% strength. He didn't regret his decision. Before he went to retrieve his apprentice, Bloodstrike got up earlier than normal (though that was easy after doing nothing but resting for at least a week) and decided to try to gauge where his abilities were. An entire season of laying around in filth had made him soft. That needed to be remedied. His tail had been torn off as well, compromising his ability to balance. He made a quick canter around the forest, trying to get a feel for, what was basically a new body. The one thing that stood the most out to him was the fact that his ability to turn sharply was considerably compromised. He would need to adjust to that and soon.

Once he felt like he understood his new restrictions a bit better, Bloodstrike loped back to the apprentice den and peaked inside. Spotting Quietpaw, he stepped in just enough to reach down and nudge his apprentice. "Let's go, Quietpaw. We hunt today." He stepped back out of the apprentice den and waited patiently outside. Strange... that little bit of a lope around the territory shouldn't have made him feel so... winded. Looks like they would both be learning new things.

Quietpaw lifted her head, as Bloodstrike, her grandfather called for her. Even if she could never see her father again, and Sneezingkit was most likely dead, it felt nice to have some kin around, even if she didn't know them to well. She got up onto her paw, rather clumsily, and padded towards Bloodstrike, waving her tail in hello. "H-hi Grandpa." She mewed, a small smile on her face.

Bloodstrike smiled a small smile when Quietpaw greeted him. Grandpa... such a foreign thing to be called. Not unwelcome, however. "Good morning!" He said back to her. He licked the top of her head and got to his feet. He leaned forward a bit too much and had to re-stabilize. Quietpaw wasn't the only one who was clumsy. Bloodstrike needed to get used to not having a tail...

"I'll show you how to hunt today. Does that sound fun?" Was he babying her too much? ... Nah. He dismissed that thought and started to walk into the woods.

"Alright, so an important part of hunting is the stalk. Watch me and copy as best as you can." Bloodstrike dropped low and raised the tiny bit of his tail that was left... until he remembered that he had no need to do that anymore. "Make sure that your tail doesn't touch the ground and drag leaves or you'll scare your prey away!" He instructed her gently. His balance was... off. He looked calm on the outside but on the inside he was nervous that his incoordination was going to prevent him from catching very much.

"Keep your weight across your paws as evenly as possible. If your legs hurt at first from staying crouched, you're doing it right. Keep practicing and the pain will go away, okay?" His eyes landed on a bird and he began to stalk towards it. Unable to signal with his tail, he hoped that she would know to at least be very quiet while he hunted if she followed after him.

Bloodstrike got fairly close, only having to pause every now and then to prevent from staggering. So far so good...

Then he leaped for it when it lighted onto a low branch.... only to startle a hawk coming from the opposite direction for the same bird. Bloodstrike yowled in surprise and tried to manuever away, but ended up catching the branch under the chin and hit the ground below him. He never realized how important his tail was until today...

"Quietpaw! Don't let it grab you!" He bellowed out, scrambling to his paws. The hawk, surprised by the cat, attacked.

In response, Bloodstrike attacked as well, determined to prevent it from attacking his granddaughter. So much for a cheerful day out. He hoped that this wouldn't scare her off of being an apprentice. It was strange, the hawk had attacked him with it's talons and he knew that he was bleeding from it... but he didn't feel any pain that wasn't his typical amount... He pushed away the odd realization for now and focused on the task at paw. This hawk was going to pay for what it had done! Bloodstrike leaped on top of it, though it was a far from graceful leap... and forced the hawk to the ground. His weight would be enough to keep it still... perhaps this could be used to build Quietpaw's confidence.

"I've got it! Attack!" He instructed, certain that she would be safe for the time being.

Quietpaw let out a mewl of surprise, as suddenly out a nowhere, came a hawk. Her blue eyes widened in terror, as the the hawk then swooped down towards Bloodstrike. Bloodstrike then managed to strike it down, before he yelled at her. She nodded nervously, before unsheathing her claws, and running over to the hawk. She then striked at the hawk's wing, before taking a step back.

Quietpaw used Front paw Strike costing -10 sp and dealing -6 hp

Bloodstrike was pleased that Quietpaw charged forward without much hesitation. Good! She had the attitude of a good warrior so far. He continued to hold and tear away at the hawk. It was likely regretting it's decision to ruin their hunt.

Quietpaw then noticed a bit of an opening in the hawk, as Bloodstrike held it down. Some of its belly was exposed. She remembered hearing once that the belly is one of the weakest spots. Maybe she should go and attack it, before the hawk managed to break free. Yea, that sounds like a good plan. Quietpaw let out a sigh, before taking a quick step forward, her legs shaking a bit as she did so, and just as she attempted to raise her paw, she fell over. While she normally would've apologized, she knew now might not be the best time. She can always apologize later. Plus maybe she could use her fallen down body to her advantage...

Quickly unsheathing her hind claws, she repostioned herself, and raked at the hawk's underbelly with her hind claws! After striking it's stomach, she quickly got up onto her paws, nearly tripping over, and backed away slowly, her blue eyes staring intensly as she did do. She quit backing away though, when one of her hind legs fumbled a bit.

The hawk had had enough. The instant it broke free it took off in a hurry, eager to avoid more attacks from the cats. Bloodstrike let it go. At one point he would have chased the hawk down and destroyed it, but now... he was older and a lot less fire burned in him. He wasn't even old... just... mature? Was that the word people used? He looked at Quietpaw and gave her an approving nod.

"You did well. I admire that you didn't panic or run. You'll be a great Skyclan warrior." He said in earnest. The puncture wounds on his shoulder weren't anything he couldn't handle. "Would you like to keep hunting?"

Hawk has fled the battle!

Quietpaw watched as the hawk flew away. She was glad that she didn't fight anymore. She nearly jumped in surprise when Bloodstrike congradulated her. "O-oh, thanks grandpa." She stammered out, a bit overwelmed by the praise.


"Um, I dunno. Are you sure don't want to go back to camp? I mean that wound must hurt. W-we can back to camp if you want!" Quietpaw mewed, concern in her voice. Was Bloodstrike okay?

"I'll be fine. It can wait until we bring back some food." He shrugged, and even though the wound shot pain through him with the motion he didn't even wince. He was always fairly good at tolerating pain to begin with, but now that he was in pain constantly he was even less bothered by it. "I'll show you again, but then it's your turn." He crouched low and began to stalk through the forest, allowing his apprentice to observe his movements. Body low, head, neck, spine and tail all in one line... though he no longer had to worry about his tail being long enough to touch the ground.

He spotted a rabbit and decided to give that a try, even if the chance of catching it was low. Maybe Quietpaw would feel better if he missed, but then she caught something. Bloodstrike crept up to it and went for it.

The rabbit of course was too swift, and Bloodstrike straightened himself up and shrugged. "Alright, you give it a try now."

Quietpaw gave a nervous nod. She got into a hunting crouch, and sniffed the air. She caught scent of a mouse, and padded towards it. She attempted to leap at it, before missing it greatly. The mouse scurried off, as she lifted her head, before her blue eyes widened in fear, as a snake appeared out of nowhere, and swallowed up the mouse. She let a mewl of terror, backing up as she did so.

Quietkit attempted to catch a mouse, instead spawning a snake!
