Rising Moon

Wisteriabloom's snort was barely audible, but she couldn't help it. She was certainly glad that Moonpaw wanted to help, but she knew that she was perfectly capable of taking down a goose alone. "Maybe they are..." She said absent-mindedly, eyes still locked on the water as she waited for signs of more fish. "But it's not really like they can hide from the cold - after all, they are literally swimming in it."

Once again, she got a little distracted by the flashing of scales in the water. But this time, she could see the actual shape of a fish. Her paw dived into the water, claws unsheathed and awaiting an unsuspecting victim. Her claw returned with the fish skewered on it, and she resisted the urge to eat it, and instead buried it beside her. A little more relaxed now that she had actually caught a fish, she turned to Moonpw. "Come on, let me see you have a go. Be very careful about where your shadow falls, and don't forget to be quick." Hopefully her son would be blessed with the same luck that she had been, and would be able to catch his first piece of prey.

At his mothers snort Moonpaw immediantly knew that he had said something stupid or something that was unatural. Moonpaw was jolted out of his thoughts by the urging of his mother wanting him to catch, or at least try to catch another fish. The first time was unsuccesslful, so hopefully the second time would bring fresh-kill to the clan.

Moonpaw scooped his paw out of the water only to find that all of the fish had dissapeared from the river. [color=#00cccc]"Mother what-"[/color] he was cut off by a six sense that was warning him of something.

"Aghh..." The sound of annoyance escaped Wisteriabloom as she spotted a second goose, this one younger and smaller, but much, much angrier. Probably heard about what we did to the other one, she snorted. "Look Moonpaw, a chance to practise your battle moves again!" She said, her enthusiasm and smile clearly fabricated.

Thus time, she didn't give the bird a chance to get a hit on her, and instead reared up on her front paws and slashed the young goose's face with her claws. Hopefully this would be quick, and they could even get back to hunting eventually. She only remembered now that they had an Asylum accompaniment with them. It's not like they do anything any way. They had probably seen both geese coming, but clearly didn't give to rats' tails.

Moonpaw wasn't excited to see another goose. In fact, he didn't want to see the first goose, only now he was actually annoyed enough that he might harm the goose for inturuppting his training. Moonpaw lunged at the goose and whacked it on the front of it's head, dazing it just slightly enough for him to spring away again.

Wisteriabloom knew that this wouldn't last long, and she was definitely right. Moonpaw dashed in and gave his blow, which would've been much better if he had unsheathed his claws, but at least he got out of the way quickly. With a small run-up, she dashed at the goose and sent it flying to the ground. Its wing lay at a funny angle as it stood up, clearly injured and not wanting to continue to fight. As it accepted its defeat, Wisteriabloom let it leave, sending it a farewell snarl, just in case it wanted to come back.

"Well I guess that was a bit easier at least! Well done Moonpaw, you were a lot better that time." Improvement was definitely be needed, but that was for another day. She noticed that they had been out a while, but she really wanted her son to have a proper chance at catching some prey. She herself wouldn't hunt anymore, since they had two geese now, but the apprentice needed the practise.

Moonpaw smiled at his mother. [color=#00cccc]"Thank you, I suppose that I did the right thing in hitting the goose? After all, I wouldn't be much of a warrior if you didn't teach me how to hunt or how to fight anything. Although fighting isn't everything that a warrior does in his or her lifetime. If your a she-cat then the clan kinda expects you to bear kits and raise them to be warriors, kinda like you are doing to me. But what about my siblings mom?"[/color] This was all a nervous rant to Moonpaw, basically after-battle jitters. He wasn't sure what he had done to the goose, instincts just took over. [color=#00cccc]"Actually never mind, I best focus on prey for the clan."[/color]

He dipped his paw into the water and this time when he scooped it out there was a fish laying on the ground next to him. He blinked in surprise but quickly finished it off with a swift blow to the head like his mother had done. [color=#00cccc]"Did I do good?"[/color] he asked looking at his mother with wide eyes.

"Yes Moon, exactly! Well done!" Wisteriabloom said after her son's successful catch. The sky was beginning to shift colours now, so it would be best to go back to camp sooner rather than later. Darkness brought its own dangers like foxes with it, and the warrior had done enough fighting for the day. "Hey you," She addressed the Asylum cat who seemed to be shivering under their thin pelt, "Carry these fish." She wanted to bring the first goose back herself. It would make good feastings for her clan, and she didn't want any of the rouges getting a look-in at it.

She stood up from where she had been sitting and flicked her tail in the direction of Moonpaw's fish, "Come on, let's get going. It's getting dark already." They hadn't been able to do as much hunting as she had wanted to, but they were both tired from the geese fights. She lifted the large bird carefully, making sure it didn't drag on the ground to much as she carried it back across the territory.

Moonpaw blinked happily as his mother proudly carried the goose back to the Riverclan camp. Before following her, he grabbed his fish and made sure not to drag it on the ground too much, which mainly resulted him in looking like a weird goose without wings.

He was proud that he had fought without any battle training, but he couldn't help wonder whether that first goose needed to be killed. It had simply wandered into the territory where he and his mother had been hunting. Then again, it attacked first and it would feed many tonight.
