ThunderClan Warrior Games

Shrikesong padded out to ThunderClan territory. It seemed like she was going to be sparring with her clanmates. She wasn't completely opposed to the idea, although she didn't believe that it was exciting. Either way, she wasn't going to verbally object to Asylum rule. Nettlestar did that when they arrived, and she ended up losing a life to these... savages. They have an iron grip on us, but as soon as the time is right, I'm going to strike back at them. It probably wasn't going to be today, since it was supposed to be a day of 'good fun'. Maybe the brown she-cat could enjoy herself for just one day. Even still, she wasn't that excited for these challenges.

Kitefire padded up next to her sister. There was the usual stoic expression written across her maw but it hinted ever so slightly at a scowl when she glanced at the Asylum cats not far off. Admittedly, some of them were decent and for the most part they stayed out of the way or lent a paw, as they should. But it still pestered her and itched at her pelt like ants. Perhaps it was even more troubling that it had become more mild over time. Could it be she was growing used to life under Asylum? Would the she-cat one day wear a pelt herself?

Shaking her head, the young warrior's tail flickered to brush her sister's pelt. What frown had been previously etched into her features now twisted into a faint smile as she greeted her kin, "Feeling up for a spar? I think I could pin you down, Shrikesong." A twitch of whiskers followed. It was easier to allow herself to slip into some semblance of normalcy when she stood next to one of her littermates. One day Buzzardpaw would join them in the warrior's den too and she could press into his long coat once more. Today the tom would compete alongside the other apprentices.

She wondered who Cedarheart might face, and what Thrushnose was up to. Each would engage in their own spar for fun, the challenge of pinning down another. The idea of something more than fighting the cold grip of leafbare and glancing over her shoulder for lurking Asylum cats was appealing. This had been a good idea, even if she begrudgingly accepted it coming from their oppressors.

Surprisingly enough, Batbite was in high spirits as she joined her fellow warriors. This sort of competition, even if it was just a light-hearted game, was precisely the kind of spontaneity she required in her life. It didn't come close to erasing the bitterness at what these Asylum cats had taken from her - the freedom to come and go as she pleased; the freedom to remain unseen - but it was, at the very least, a gesture she could appreciate on its own.

Even if their game of choice left plenty to be desired for a cat whose fighting skill was undoubtedly lacking. That said, she'd been in her fair share, and won more than a few; so perhaps this wouldn't end as badly as she expected. For now, she would await a challenge, wondering who might approach her.

Shrikesong watched as Kitefire walked up to her. It was obvious that she was preparing to spar with Shrikesong. Well, I can't pass down a challenge from my sister. She hadn't talked with her sister in a long time, not since Asylum's takeover. But now, she had to push the thoughts of their oppressors aside and focus on the sparring, the rush of energy that was going to appear after the grappling.

And yet, she couldn't fully push the thoughts of them away just yet.

"Bring it on," she said, grappling her sister. "I'm gonna get ya!" Shrikesong said playfully. She was determined to win, which was unusual for a cat like her. When she was younger, she always saw stuff like that as childish and immature, and refused to actually participate in it unless it had a purpose other than just 'winning'. But today, she relished in the energy that it gave her, the excitement in her veins, the fire that it lit inside of her. She needed the energy it brought her.

Not a bone in Beecloud's body wanted to participate in these silly games on the morning of the full moon. It felt demeaning and clownish. He grimaced in Nettlestar's direction as she consented to the affair (as much as one could consent under an oppressive rule). He knew she was just doing her job, but was this... appropriate?

The warriors trekked into the dry thicket to complete their part in these charades the Asylum called "Games." Beecloud dragged his paws the whole way, in solemn vigil for the Gathering they would not be attending. The group seemed just a bit melancholy, until the delighted shout of a she-cat lifted everyone's ears in their direction. Shrikesong and Kitefire were locked in a brawl, a bright smile on the offensive warrior's muzzle. It was the first smile Beecloud had seen from a clanmate in days. He sighed. It wasn't worth it to waste this moment.

"Hey, Batbite!" Beecloud snickered, shaking out his thick pelt. "I'll go easy on ya!" The tom gave her a moment to prepare before jumping out at her spindly legs, sweeping them out with a huge paw. Off to a meager start, he knocked the older she-cat off balance but was unable to bring her to the ground. He wrapped his forepaws around her shoulders, fighting to twist them both into the dusty turf.

Two moons had gone by since they’d last exchanged information with the other Clans. As little as Thrushnose liked the chaos of Gathering nights, these games, all ThunderClan and Asylum, made for a poor substitute. When it came to her Clanmates, she didn’t mind sparring for sparring’s sake—after all, experience was the best teacher in all the forest—but participating a tournament organized by Asylum felt…wrong. Were they trying to keep ThunderClan so busy they forgot they weren’t at Fourtrees? What did they gain from this? There had to be something…right?

In the end, it didn’t matter. They were under Asylum’s rule; if Asylum chose to hold a tournament, she had no choice but to join in. Besides, there were worse ways to brush up on one’s fighting skills. Thus, Thrushnose stood beneath the snow-dusted trees, head held high, and waited for a challenger. Just within earshot, her Clanmates were already sparring. At least she’d most likely end up facing someone she could trust.

Batbite let out a laugh at Beecloud's words as the younger cat did his best to pin her down, attacking her balance. "Don't you dare," she told him, voice firm for just a moment before lightening once more as she responded in kind, attempting to return the favor and regain her own balance in the process . "Really, that takes all the fun out of these things! At least, I certainly won't be going easy on you."

It seemed that she always forgot how much she enjoyed a good fight - sparring or no - until she was in the midst of it. Though Batbite was somewhat smaller than most of her fellow warriors, there was no denying that she possessed as much fire and spirit as any one of them.

"Oof." The wind was knocked from her lungs and in a manner not too drastically different from her encounter with Jaypaw, the warrior was pinned. Her sister's weight was efficient in wresting her down. From the recesses of her mind, the she-cat recalled moons ago when the pair of them had indulged in kitish games. This was effectively the same thing. Kitefire felt her own surge of excitement, energy coursing through her blood. After gritting her teeth, the she-cat threw her weight to the side and strained upwards in hopes to overcome her sister. There was a bit of a give and she nearly had the upper paw, "You'll have to try harder than that, Shrikesong! I've wrestled a tom much larger than you."

Shrikesong grinned. Kitefire was powerful for sure. But I can still hold my own against her. The brown she-cat didn't know how exactly the best course of action was for wrestling, but the brown she-cat was able to pin another cat before. Granted, it was an apprentice much younger than I was. It didn't show any battle prowess that she had, just that she was able to pin a cat smaller than her. Her sister was a much tougher fight. "I can see that. You're very strong." She couldn't help but compliment her sister's battle progress. "But it doesn't mean that I'm not as strong as you."
