Trick of the Tail [Open-Hunting]

Stormbringer eyed the two Asylum cats that sat off to the side of her. She wished she could have just leave them behind considering she was the deputy of the clan and she wasn't going to go against her mate's agreement but of course these strangers weren't going to let her. They had to come along.. She didn't like these agreements. She didn't like not meeting up with the other clans at any point. She didn't like any of this.. She honestly felt like a prisoner in her own camp more than someone who was getting outside assistance.

Amber eyes turned away from the two other cats waiting on others of her own clan to join her considering she already had two of the outsiders determined. Maybe if one of the other outsiders wanted to get friendly and actually wanted to help with hunting instead of just watching or maybe these two would help she didn't know. Either way she just wanted to get moving. This silence was making her antsy.

Wisteriabloom padded up to Stormbringer, eyeing the Asylum cats beside her warily. She could now leave Echokit, Hollykit and Moonkit for short periods of time with Cloverfrost, and so the warrior was taking every chance of freedom she could get. Even though she loved her kits and was very protective over them, they did get on her nerves sometimes. And they could be a lot of work. She had rarely interacted with the clan's deputy, and so she was looking forward to the hunt ahead.

"Is anyone else joining us?" She asked, trying her best to not sound like she was being controlling. Unfortunately for her, that was just who she was, but trying to boss around the deputy (even if it was by accident) would not be a good plan.

Lyralei sat of to the side, ignoring the side-long glances she and her companion kept receiving from RiverClan's deputy, as the clan cats called her. She had chosen to accompany this patrol herself, to learn what she could about the clan's hunting methods and perhaps incorporate them into her own methods. Besides, she'd always wanted to try her paw at fishing. Would the two clan cats be the only ones outside of her and her companion? Time would tell, she supposed, but she was itching to go out and hunt. She was a Scout, trained to hunt and patrol, not to remain cooped up in a camp. Perhaps that tom would come along... that would be a pleasant surprise, she mused to herself.

Stormbringer waited a few more beats for anyone else who seemed to be joining them for this patrol, but it seemed no one else was showing up. If anyone else wanted to join in they could always catch up later. The deputy stood with a sigh. "I guess not." She answered her warrior, before turning to their guards and nodding at them to follow. "Let's get going, yes? We have plenty of mouths to feed." They certainly needed all the food they could get. The gray deputy then turned and lead them out of the camp heading for the river first, fish were always her go to.

Far too many mouths. Even if the rouges hunted for themselves, the territory could only sustain so many cats, and there was only so much prey to go around, no matter how good the hunters were. Wisteriabloom followed Stormbringer out of camp, tracing her path to the river. Once they were there, she sat down beside the river, glancing at the Asylum cat with them. Are you going to be one of the ones that actually bother to hunt? It really annoyed her when the rouges came on patrol just to do nothing.

She slipped her paw into the river, which was freezing cold. They were well and truly in Leafbare now. In some of the smaller streams and puddles, ice lay over they surface, making the territory slightly slippery. "I wonder if the fish care about the cold," She asked to break the silence. Fishing required a lot of waiting, and so she might as well make conversation.

Feeling a fish brush her paw, she brought it to the surface, only to find her claws empty. Her failed attempt had scared some of the fish away in that section of the river, so she shifted along the bank slightly. Hopefully this isn't going to be a running thing. She had barely patrolled with Stormbringer, so she didn't want to leave a bad impression.

Loonwhisper hadn't necessarily planned on hunting today, on account of his poor night's sleep. He found a hole in the wall of the warriors' den, and rather than patching it up or alerting a senior warrior, he watched the stars slowly shift across the skyline. He had rolled over onto his back, his smoke-plume tail twitching in excitement, and owl-eyes fixed eerily on the dusting of light across all the forest. It entranced him, but it also preoccupied him. He did not begin to think of sleep until the speckles started to wane in the light of morning. He slept in, to the annoyance of his clanmates, and when he heard a patrol leave he did not think about joining. Of course, he did eventually think about it. He peered through the same hole and felt an odd muddling of guilt and curiosity. With so many new cats sharing RiverClan's camp, it might serve him well to help feed them all.

Though, if he were truly honest with himself, which wasn't so common in the first place, Loonwhisper could admit that he was incredibly curious about the Captain that loomed in their midst.

He followed the patrol at a lagging pace, shaking the last of the grogginess out of his pelt. When they came to a stop, Loonwhisper circled around, seeking out a fishing spot that was not crowded by another warrior. The tom found a place where he could lay in peaceful silence, a paw poised delicately over the edge of the water, watching the dizzy shadows loop around beneath the surface.

Upon finding his target, he prepared to swing out at the fish. However, the reflection of an unfamiliar face behind his own caused him to jerk in surprise, and he swung madly in the wrong direction, creating a splash that sent the fish shooting off and away. He turned around, smiling at Lyralei in his cockeyed manner, with an eerie blankness in his eyes. "Hoo-oo." His smile settled, and he patted the ground beside him with his tail. "I do not think I would be a good mentor," he said quietly. "Some kits are afraid of me. And I do not explain things the way I think I am supposed to. But I could try to mentor you." He bent down, settling evenly onto all four limbs and tucking his nose close to the water. "Fish are like fire when they swim. I have only seen fire once. Very far away. The smoke... dances. It dances in coils and rings. And it is lawless. Fish swim in a smoke-dance. But sometimes they stop, and then you grab them. Okay?"

Lyralei followed the group quietly, standing back to watch the first couple of times they fished. The younger one lashed out with a paw, and the Scout captain watched as her paw missed the fish and it continued on it's way. Blinking sympathetically, she turned to settle by the river only to see a familiar figure that had joined them without her knowing. A grin spread across her face as she watched Loonwhisper for a few moments before coming up behind him. Her reflection must have startled him, as he lashed out towards an empty part of the water and turned towards her with a grin. Her head tilted slightly, blinking once in apology before the tom started talking. "I think you would make a fine mentor, paired with the right apprentice. Not everyone is made for each other, and sometimes trial and error lights the path ahead." She purred before nodding and settling next to him, casting a glance towards the other two on the patrol before focusing on the water just past her nose. She had always loved the way the water swirled. Loonwhisper explained the fish to be like fire and smoke, and she glanced over to him at the odd comparison. As he explained further, she looked back towards the shadows that were slowly returning to the space. She could see where he was coming from, a flash of silver here, a small flicker of a tail there. Sitting up, she stared down at the figures until one stopped, and it was then she struck out with a paw.

A silver fish arched through the sky, water droplets glistening in the chilly air as the captain skillfully caught it in her mouth and tossed it towards the shore. Nipping behind it's head, she waited until the fish stopped moving before releasing her bite and picking it up to place next to Loonwhisper. "How was that?" She mewed.

Stormbringer looked back as soon as Loonwhisper join in on the patrol. She was happy the tom could make it. She watched for a moment as he interacted and tried to show the Asylum captain how to fish. Granted he missed, but it seemed his teaching was effective for her it seemed as she caught a fish. Maybe one day Loonwhisper would be ready for an apprentice of his own.

The gray warrior turned to the water herself, her amber eyes staring back at her for a second before she looked below that to see the shadows of the fish. Her tail flicked on the ground behind her as she waiting patiently for her chance to strike at the fish. Amber eyes following their dance before one reached the surface close enough for her to lash out and scoop it up. She felt it slip out of her grasp, and she cursed because of it. She would have to wait a little while for the fish to regroup before she could try again.

Wisteriabloom watched warily as Loonwhisper taught the Captain the ways of fishing. His explanation was odd, to say the least, but the large warrior listened with pricked ears. She saw similarities between the young warrior and her son, Moonkit; they were both very... unusual in their ways of doing things. Only now, listening to his explanation, did she see the comparison between the prey that they were hunting and the fire that had raged through Skyclan's forest. From their safe, protected distance, it had seemed beautiful and mystical, but from what she'd seen when the clan finally returned, she knew what had happened was far from that.

However, she didn't yet trust Lyralei. She was yet to have a positive experience with a rouge like her, or any kind of real meeting or conversation. It was probably because she avoided them whenever she could, so it was unsurprising, really. Wisteriabloom turned back to her hunting, and as she did, she saw the flicker of silver scales. Her paw splashed into the water, but yet again returned empty. Only when she shifted away slightly did she realise how much her large shadow was hanging over the water. No wonder I didn't catch it! What has gotten into me today? Her luck in hunting seemed to be pretty bad all of a sudden, and she certainly wasn't enjoying it.

"Hey, Stormbringer?" She addressed the grey warrior, "How do you like being deputy?" Hoping that her second try to break the silence would get an answer, she waited for an answer.
